Does anyone in the crowd appear to have tomatoes, eggs, heads of lettuce, etc.?

ESPN's Pat Forde thinks it will be Cincy Head Coach Brian Kelly that will be Notre Dame's next head coach. Also, two names among the "Former NFL Coaches who have won Super Bowls" have been mentioned, but Forde says that both are huge longshots.

It was either that, or he would have been an extra cheerleader. They were to strip his recruiting responsibilities, he was to have no more say regarding the staff. He would have just been walking the sidelines cheering on.

The news made me think of this clip.

I can't believe the rumors circulating about UNC's Butch Davis taking the job at Notre Dame. The Irish would have to be ******s to take him over anyone else. Butch may be the only one chomping at the bit to take the job, but he's more interested in where he's coaching as opposed to winning football games.

When Notre Dame gets Brian Kelly, I'm going to be ticked. The least he could do is wait for Rich Rod to flame completely out at my beloved Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeechigan. ;)

Though I must state for the record that I do, in fact, still believe in Rich Rod.

Once you win at Notre Dame, there really isn't a bigger college coaching plateau. After Cleveland, no NFL team is hiring them. Davis to ND makes a lot of sense, IMO.

The BCS is so detested that it felt compelled to start up a twitter account defending itself. And then a website. And the BCS is now on Facebook. Each social network experiment has been a resounding failure, primarily because the BCS is an inadequate, unfair, pathetic end to the college football season. This is nearly unanimously agreed upon, except for a handful of “traditionalists” and the greedy suits who profit handsomely from the dozens of meaningless bowl games.

Even the highest profile media “defender” of the BCS, Stewart Mandel of Sports Illustrated, is changing allegiances.

I’ve long been anti-playoff (albeit wanting a plus one), but these @InsidetheBCS tweets may be the straw that turns me the other way.
The media, the President, bloggers, and twitterers - have battered the BCS mercilessly. Guess who has been strangely quiet on the BCS front this year?

ESPN.

Amazingly, this is the only piece we could find on ESPN.com about the BCS and social media. It was penned by a freelancer and may as well have been written by a member of the vaunted BCS PR team.

Why wouldn’t ESPN chime in on the hot-button topic in college football?

ESPN’s baseball writers talk about Bud Selig’s postseason blunders. Its NFL writers have debated the merits of an 18-game season. Its college basketball reporters write about the silly minority that wants to expand the NCAA tournament.

Why nothing on the BCS?

ESPN is the most powerful brand in sports. It has a deep group of college football columnists, reporters, and bloggers … and very few (if any) are railing against the BCS. Ivan Maisel wrote a column that got some front-page play about how the season has been a letdown … it doesn’t even make mention of the BCS. An ESPN.com search for “Bill Hancock” (the new BCS executive director) turned up a few AP articles and very little else. Meanwhile, Hancock is going on radio shows around the country attempting to defend the BCS.

Could it be that ESPN owns and operates a handful (best we can tell, five) of bowl games? Or that ABC/ESPN will be televising 27 bowl games this winter?

Sigh. Maybe we shouldn’t be hopeful about ESPN getting the fans, players, and coaches what many of them seem to want - a playoff.

I agree on this, and I also think it's going to become reality. Stoops and Meyer have already said they won't leave their respective schools. Patterson just signed a contract extension. Kelly seems like the most viable option.

I know this isn't a pic/gif thread, but I thought it would be much more appreciated here that anywhere else on the hype. Here's some (really bad) security footage of Dunlap before his DUI.

He'll probably be suspended for pre-game warm ups, and their first defensive series. That'll teach him.

He'll be out the SEC championship game but I don't think they'll need him but he'll play in the big show. Sometimes you have to wonder why these guys want to screw themselves up but then I have to remind myself they are still kids really.

Suprised there is not more love on here for Bowden. While I thought it was time I was still sad to see it come to that. I hope he goes somewhere else and coaches till he's 100 like spurrier.:)

One last thing who do yall think is winning the Heisman? No one I've seen stands out really. If Mcoy gets it, it will be on career achievement. If Tebow has a standout SEC championship game he could get it still though I think he doesn't deserves it this year I would call payback from them stealing it from him last year. THoughts?

The Heisman is a joke these days, but I'm guessing McCoy gets it, Toby Gerhart is the runner up.

you think that they stole the Heisman from teablow last year? he didnt have any numbers last year nor this year. if anything mccoy was robbed last year. mccoy deserves it. gerhart should of been playing like he is now the whole season and it would be his or if his team was undefeated. also i live in tallahassee and its been a media circus around the stadium over bobby leaving. the town is pretty sad about it. HOOK EM HORNS!!

I'm not a stats guy but didn't Tebow have great numbers last year and a great year, SEC champs, National Champs and let's not forget the promise!

It's not whose the stat monster, it's whose most valuable and it should have been Tebow's last year. Look as those drives in the SEC and BCS championship games. When it's on the line he's the one you want. If you take him away from the team their playing in the Papa John's bowl - maybe. if I'm a voter I give it to him because I know how important he is to the team's success.

As for Bobby Bowden - he's awesome. I really like him. One of the biggest mistakes Alabama ever made was not hiring him after Bear retired. He would have gone to the Captsone in a heartbeat. College football will miss him a lot. I will miss him a lot. I think he's one of the last few that actually care about the kids and not just what they can give him on the field. I wish he'd been able to keep it going at FSU but I think like a lot of long term successful coaches he fell victim to his loyalties over smart decision making. I can only hope he replaces Lou Holtz!
