I haven't been able to take the Heisman seriously for years now. I'm not really partial to this 'most outstanding player' stuff. It should go to the best player in the country. Not the best player on the best team that happens to be of national prominence and only plays QB or RB. It's a beauty pageant.

Also, as a 'Canes fan (first and foremost) I'll definitely miss Bobby. I believe his loyalties got the better of him, but I wish his departure was handled with greater decorum. I always want to see Miami top FSU, but there was a respect there. Now, I couldn't care less about that program. I hope they really fall on hard times.

Not that what I wish for actually manages to manifest itself into reality. :awesome:

Exactly

Source: Mangino Out at Kansas
Mark Mangino will not return as Kansas football coach, a source close to the situation told Joe Schad of ESPN Thursday night.

The team is scheduled to be told at a meeting Thursday evening.

Athletic director Lew Perkins launched an investigation into Mangino's treatment of players three weeks ago. The Jayhawks won the first five games of the season before going on a seven-game losing streak. Mangino was 50-48 in eight years -- two wins shy of the school record for a coach.

The investigation began after allegedly grabbed, yelled at and poked senior linebacker Arist Wright, who had been laughing during a walk-through or practice prior to the Oct. 17 Colorado game. Since then, several former Kansas players come forward with allegations of verbal abuse.

Mangino inherited the Kansas program in 2002. Five seasons later, the Jayhawks were 12-1 and won the Orange Bowl over Virginia Tech. He was named Associated Press Coach of the Year.
I can't decide which is of the greater magnitude; the coming surplus of food in the state of Kansas or the coming shortage of demand for perishable goods. I'm going to have to think about this.

can't wait to see what horrid uniform combo Oregon throws out there tonight

Fun Fact: There was consideration of adjusting the PAC-10 schedule to accommodate the Civil War being played a week earlier (on Thanksgiving). The plan was ultimately scrapped due to fear of people being able to keep their meals down after being subjected to Oregon's uniform combo.

considering this game is at night...Oregon should break out the yellow jerseys just to make sure people can see them

Scary Thought: What if Mangino is depressed by this and turns to food for comfort.

Hopefully Kansas hires a coach that doesn't weigh the same weight as an 18 Wheeler.

Atleast it wasn't the neon yellow jerseys... those are atrocious. I don't know why they ditch the dark green so often though.

If Kansas hires someone who could make them a perennial winner, he could be obese, ugly, wear polka dot cut-off shorts, have a mullet, and pick his nose on camera without any backlash. Winning makes everything ok. Ask Philadelphia Eagles' fans.

Mangino was only an average head coach at best. I'm surprised he lasted this long.

Mangino got them to the 3 bowl wins, when in the prior 100 seasons of Kansas football, they had ZERO bowl wins....apparently he did something right and in this wussified society we live in now, people can't handle a little verbal abuse as a tradeoff for winning

Only an average coach? In five years he is the only relevant coach in Kansas Jayhawk history. He won an Orange Bowl...WITH KANSAS!

50-48 overall, 23-41 in the Big 12. I know it's a stacked conference and Kansas has very little history but those numbers aren't impressive at all. He seems better suited as an OC.

It's not whose the stat monster, it's whose most valuable and it should have been Tebow's last year. Look as those drives in the SEC and BCS championship games. When it's on the line he's the one you want. If you take him away from the team their playing in the Papa John's bowl - maybe. if I'm a voter I give it to him because I know how important he is to the team's success.

As for Bobby Bowden - he's awesome. I really like him. One of the biggest mistakes Alabama ever made was not hiring him after Bear retired. He would have gone to the Captsone in a heartbeat. College football will miss him a lot. I will miss him a lot. I think he's one of the last few that actually care about the kids and not just what they can give him on the field. I wish he'd been able to keep it going at FSU but I think like a lot of long term successful coaches he fell victim to his loyalties over smart decision making. I can only hope he replaces Lou Holtz!

I completely agree:up:
