I CLEARLY did. Sorry I didn't get glued to the TV for every game and pay for the SEC Network.
Be honest with me: Do you seriously believe that if the NBA got rid of the "One and done" rule regarding college, that AD and gang would still go to UK for an education? PUH-LEASE. If you believe that you are chugging the Blue Kool-Aid.
I'm happy for you, as a fan. Congrats. But the overall arrogance of Kentucky fans is pretty sad.
Of course they wouldn't. Why would they when they could be millionaires right out of high school. ANYONE with half a brain would jump in the draft if your a top 5 pick, you can always finish school later if that's what you want to do.
People need to quit acting like this is UK or Cal's fault. The NBA made the rule and we are doing the best job that we can within the rule structure. Cal has said OVER and OVER that he hates the rule and thinks we should do away with it. I agree. If your 18 and don't want or need college you should not be forced into it.
The real problem here is other schools, coaches, and fans being ******** at getting their arses kicked in recruiting and on the court. Everyone DOES realize that Cal is not the only one recruiting all these "one and dones" right?? Coach Krzhekckkdkslslkidhgkey recruits them, Roy recruits them, Izzo recruits them, Bohiem recruits them, etc, etc. Coach K has had two in a row now (he tried to get more than that) and I don't hear the outcry against it. Barnes and Marshall are underclassmen, wheres the outcry.
Cal just gets them, and more of them. He also does a FAR better job of showcasing the kids talents and getting them ready for the next level faster.
People need to live in reality. Most of these high level players are going to make FAR more money playing basketball than they ever could with a degree. Their chosen career field is Basketball and that is what they are going to college to learn. Nothing wrong with that. The point of college for most is to earn a good living doing something you love when you get out.
If your doing whats best for the kid and their families, you make them multi-millioniares as soon as they are ready. School will be there when they want it. Shouldn't coaches be doing right by their kids?
I'll tell you what. Lets just eliminate athletic scholarships. Stop televising the games, stop selling merchandise, etc. EVERY SINGLE ONE of the academics crying over the fall of the "true student athlete" are rolling in all that TV and ticket sales money, not to mention merchandise. Its a multi-billion dollar industry. They take the money and then cry about where the money comes from. They need to shut up, or quit taking the money, which they actually have control over. The players and coaches have no say in the rules they play by.
The NBA is a business and makes rules that are best for it. The NCAA is a business (a corrupt one at that) and does what is best for it.
Lets quit demonizing the coaches and kids that are doing the best they can within the rule structure allotted to them. The whole NCAA "rules" are rife with so much hypocrisy its utterly astounding. The NCAA itself is a money racket and a business.
