How is Spider-Man 3 a disaster? It did great box office considering it opened the same month as Shrek the Third and POTC: At World's End.
just saying after darknight made 533mill it would be a dissapointment if darknight rises didnt clear 400mill domestic after all the hype.if spiderman3 wasnt a dissapointment they would not have rebooted it 5 yrs later.also spidey3 made less than spidey2 and had negative reviews.

You used the word disaster though which makes it seem like it was a huge bomb. I'm no fan of spider-man 3 btw and like i said comparisons between it and TDKR seem pointless as the reviews for TDKR have been great so has the WOM both of which Spider-man 3 did not have.

I don't think the movie would have gotten the record but if it comes in with less than 180mil the it was hurt alot by the tragedy and so were the other films. Because of that it should have great weekdays and a second weekend drop.

true disaster was a little harsh i was just ticked at the guy who said darknight rises wouldnt beat return of the kings 377mill wich is crazy.i think this movie is a lock to clear 400mill maybe even 500mill.i only brung up spiderman 3 because it didnt outgross spiderman 2 and i was wondering would it be a dissapointment if rises doesnt outgross darknight.

I'd gladly have Rises be a flop in exchange for those 12 lost fans to still be alive. :(

Sony were proceeding to Spider-Man 4 and 5 before Raimi pulled out, then they rebooted the franchise. Plus Spider-Man 2 made less money than the first one, despite being considered the greatest in the franchise.

The reason Spider-man was rebooted was because Sony didn't like the direction Raimi was going, and Raimi didn't believe he could get the movie done in the time they wanted.

Most studios have in solidarity decided not to release their numbers until later along with WB.

Not trying to gloat about numbers just asking, That C[BLACKOUT]ock[/BLACKOUT]sucker is in custody and going down for murder 1. Just trying to figure out why they would put up how much midnights on friday morning did hours after the tragedy but not on a monday 3 days after, Cant throw the tragedy around when they already have gloated somewhat.

A) With or without tags, the language is unacceptable.

B) Don't even go there about the grosses. Those midnight numbers got released within hours of the shooting when everyone was still trying to sort out what to do. By that afternoon, it was decided not to report them for the rest of the weekend and the other studios followed suit.

Ok wait a minute dude Im not trollng here I missed that report because I was so burned out from the actual story I turned off the tv. I was just asking because Comingsoon.net posted the udpated release from WB around lunch time on friday but I still missed or never heard of the gentlemens agreement from the other studios so take it somewhat easy on me here for asking a innocent question. Sorry I havent been on here much this past weekend.

@terry78 thank you for filling me in without biting my head off.

For starters, I'm not a dude. And no one said you were trolling. I told you to not use the language you used and to not suggest the studio was using the shooting as an excuse to not report numbers, when it was announced days ago that they would not be reported this weekend.

Even if you weren't around much this weekend, common sense would dictate that any suggestions like that about the shooting would not be appropriate.

your point?

The people who would have these numbers, the PR people in LA would be asleep. Usually numbers come out Sunday afternoon but because of this weekend's tragedy they're not coming out until Monday so the people who provide the information are asleep as are the people who would relay that to the public. Nikki Finke isn't getting up at 4AM to post box office numbers.

Dont be like the media and blame TDKR's for James Holmes murder spree. He alone is to blame, well him and the idiots who believe that anybody should be allowed to carry Semi-Auto weapons that carry 100 bullet clips. People shouldn't live in fear, go see movies like you always have.

The studios have quietly updated the official numbers for this weekend:

1) TDKR: $160.8M
2) Ice Age 4: $20.4M (-56%)
3) ASM: $10.8M (-69%)
4) Ted: $10M (-55%)
5) Brave: $6M (-46%)

Obviously the tragedy scared some people away.

Tragedy shaved $20-$30M from Dark Knight Rises. Zero doubt.

Understandably people were scared to go to the show. Hell my local theater even got calls about non-sense rumors of their closing for the weekend and frequent reassurances of extra security. But the good hold on Sunday suggests the folks are slowly ready to go... and the word of mouth is great.

Even if the movie has a 3.0 multiplier which is still very good for a large opening it won't cross $500 million domestically. Something I was hoping for before all this happened.

I think it still has a chance. I believe that the people who didn't go because of the tragedy will be there eventually.

Why do you assume the multiplier will be off from TDK? It debuted with more money?

I believe that the WOM while good overall, its not the same as TDK. I'd love for it to have the legs to carry it to $500 million but I don't think it will.
