2012: A Monster Year? (box office predictions) - Part 5

I wasn't planning on seeing them but I just noticed that three of the nearest movie theaters closest to me have stopped showing This Is 40 and The Guilt Trip, did these movies meet low expectations or something? I guess people are fed up with Seth Rogen and Judd Apatow films.

Not necessarily. There was a lot of competition and not many Progeny fans want to see him in a Streisand comedy

Just a liiiiiiiiiiiiiittle bit more for SF to surpass TDKR.

Well Skyfall has definitely passed TDKR now.

Kedrell is doing backflips. :woot:

That's awesome, Bond definitely deserved it. I'm not sure where to rank Skyfall, but it's gotta be one of the top 3 Bond films of all time, if not the best.

:hehe: No, not really. As I have said before I didn't hate TDKR. Not to say that I liked it but it didn't piss me off like TDK did. And while I liked Skyfall, I didn't love it like I loved Casino Royale. So no, I have no reason to break out the back flips here. They're rather hard to do at 291 lbs. anyway.

Hmm I think a lot of people had the hobbit topping a billion especially with the 3D and all. Does it still have a chance or is it's run over now?

China, so it should get there unless for some reason its bombs there which I doubt.

This is not a disappointing total by any means but I really thought it had a shot at $1 billion from overseas alone.

Oh yes, Les Mis is bigger than Django or Titanic 3D. I expected it to be as phenomenal in box office as Sound of Music and Grease were in their time....

I don't think that's saying much but you take what you will.

In ticket sales Sound of Music is the third biggest movie of all time domestically, even bigger than movies like E.T. and Titanic, and Grease beats movies like Avengers and The Dark Knight, so Les Miserables still have a loooong way to go to be in the same league as those movies. :)

Does the Hobbit have a chance of surpassing TDKR's overall gross as well?

Well, as an Estonian I don't care much what is a "domestic" success in US. I know Sound of Music is in the worldwide top also, and it deserves to be, but I thought the most popular musical that Les Mis is, and such an awesome movie based on it, would achieve similar success... apparently I was wrong.

I get that SOM might have more universal appeal in some sense, but I also guess that people's taste have changed in the last five decade ... I wonder how would SOM do today?

I wish it would as it's a much better movie but it probably won't.

^Matter of opinion and nope it won't.
