61 Nights of Halloween (2024 Edition)

5 minutes into my movie for day 26:

Insane how much of a fumble It Chapter 2 is.
Even with the book the section where the Losers Club are kids is the stronger part of the story (except for THAT ONE part). Hear me out but IT Chapter 2 is weirdly a better watch when approached as a comedy. Pennywise is really only scary when he's going after kids which is why the first movie is naturally scarier but when he's turning into a naked old witch lady that looks like a Windows 98 screensaver to bother Jessica Chastain or chasing after Bill Hader like this it's absolutely hysterical:

(Hader also does a lot of heavy lifting in this which makes it worth watching btw)

Going to be serious for a sec. Sorry. :o

I feel like the entire film is horribly put together. There should've been no Losers Club flashbacks. Especially not in the abundance there is. They're just retreads. Worse, they mirror what is happening to the adults. So right there you're doubling the length of sequences for no reasons other then having the kids in it again. And as CGI monstrosities. If you wanted the framing device, then you film the two films like the book. But once part 1 was what it was, you do not walk it back.

The difference in competence between the scripts makes it so clear they were written by different people. The second film has no drive, has so many unnecessary scenes, while undercutting itself time and again. It's just bad. I wish I could laugh, but I wanted them to land it so badly. :weeping:

Yeah I'm not a fan of the CGI de-aged kids either (was anyone?). The only flashback in the bunch that I actually liked was when young Richie gets chased by the giant Paul Bunyan but that's more to do with me being a fan of it from the book but even so it would have been better suited in a director's cut of the first movie along with maybe a few of the other flashbacks.

I'm also curious as to the reasoning behind that five second needle drop of "Angel in the Morning" when Eddie gets puked on. One of the most out of nowhere random things I've ever seen in a movie.

Brought to you by the guy who thinks microwaving babies is hilarious!

Bite-Sized Review: A big step up in everyway from the first. Giving the audience a character to care about can do wonders.

Bite-Sized Review: So many other movies would've ditched the gimmick early. This one doesn't. Much respect for that.
