61 Nights of Halloween (2024 Edition)

Wonder what it's like when you realize your career is being cast as the dick. What does that do to your self-perception?

Anyways, tonight...

The kids are not alright.

Well as far as low budget, campy werewolf movies go this isn't the worst one that I've seen believe it or not but it isn't good either which I know isn't saying much. I went into this pretty much expecting it to be bad but after actually seeing it I do think it had some potential. For starters the werewolves themselves actually look pretty badass and thankfully are mostly practical suits. The action scenes are even somewhat decent at times and quite violent but what really brings this movie down is everything else.

The acting across the board is pretty poor with cheesy dialogue and performances left and right and my god were those scenes with Johnathan Rhys Meyers and Louis Mandylor the absolute worst. I honestly couldn't wait for their scenes to end so we could actually get back to the good stuff with werewolves. I usually have a bit of a soft spot for Quinton Rampage Jackson too even though I know he isn't a good actor but I've always liked his tough guy persona and screen presence, but he just wasn't given enough to do here.

A pretty solid little cyber thriller. I wasn't even aware that this existed until a day ago, but it kept my attention for the most part and if you enjoy films like Searching, I do think its worth a watch.

Now this was solid and honestly will probably end up being a bit of a hidden gem come the end of the year. It's crazy to me how Netflix just churns out these kinds of movies with little to no marketing and when you actually have pretty decent flicks like this that get either overlooked or completely ignored.

Finn Wittcrock was great in this and Kelsey Asbille is really solid in this too and if you like 90's style thrillers or films similar to Alone which is another hidden gem than its definitely worth a look IMO.

36. Rose Red (2002)

Just wanted to revisit something I remember watching on TV. Honestly, I like this mainly for the house. Its just kind of fun, and I have visited the Winchestor mansion. Some familiar actors, if very much younger. Part 1 is definitely slow. Honestly, I miss this mini series format. With streaming cutting down seasons to 6-8, I would like to see them return to the 2-4 parts, with 2 hours each.

Beyond The Black Rainbow

Turns out the Arboria Institute was just making absolute banger dark synthwave albums.

Now watch the remake of Suspiria where they take it up a notch. :p

I totally forgot about Searching.

THE SLAYER (1982) was definitely a unique take on a slasher. Especially so early on in the 80's when they were just beginning. I couldn't help but think if Wes Craven saw this before making A Nightmare on Elm Street. It's like a prototype in a way.

There's a movie I saw on one of those Top 10 What Culture lists and I think it was a domestic abuse demon terrorizing a woman.

First two tales: Here's some fun, atmospheric anthology tales for you to enjoy!

Third tale: We're going grab your heart and smash it into a million little pieces.

Geninuely annoyed with how the third tale ended, wasn't fair. Superb creature effects.

Sleazeball Baruchel is the best kind of Baruchel. Just like her brother and his debut, Antiviral, Caitlin Cronenberg's first film isn't much to write about but there are flashes of potential. Interested in seeing where she goes next.
