61 Nights of Halloween (2024 Edition)

I watched MaXXXine tonight. I appreciated the corniness of it all, it captured that 80's thriller feel but it was my least favorite of the three. Pearl was definitely the standout of the trilogy IMO.

Still got a few more spooky season movies left to go before Halloween. Kinda don't want it to end this year. :csad:

Bite-Sized Review: Perhaps the most ingenious slasher... ever?

Bite-Sized Review: Of course the French figured out a way to be the real villain of the story.

****1/2
I thought the real villain was Man and the Predator was the hero. :o

Eh I thought this was alright, but I mostly enjoyed it for the practical puppet effects. I honestly wasn't the biggest fan of Psycho Goreman either, but I definitely enjoyed that movie more than this.

The lead guy in this drove me crazy too and I just didn't find his character likeable at all, but the puppets saved it for me whenever they were onscreen, and third act was pretty fun too.

This was decent but considering this was from the directors of Inside I definitely expected a bit more. It's more of a procedural crime drama than a horror flick but the gore is pretty graphic at times. I do like the fact that these directors have pretty much gone back to their French roots instead of doing stuff like Leatherface and would like to see them do more but hopefully it's something more memorable than this.

AKA what it feels like to play the Seraphites section on grounded permadeath. This is Samara Weaving's show through and through and boy does she take a whopping in this one.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man

Does it live up to Del Toro's films? Not quite. But is it still an enjoyable Hellboy film? Very much so, warts and all.

Your Monster

Melissa is making a career out of calling guys limp d***s. :hehe:

Yeah, this was really fun. Shame that it's being dumped in theaters, I was in there with only 3 other people. Melissa with those big glasses was just :atp:.

So I will be watching Time Cut this week to see if there's the predictable ending or a surprise ending. Trailer is here:

I said earlier that the predictable ending would be (although I added a little bit):

The trio stops the killer, and the main girl goes back to her time. She wakes in bed to the sound of a little girl telling her to wake up, and that little girl is her niece and her sister is alive and well, but in her late 30's with a daughter of her own and possibly married to the older version of the male from 2003. I sense the age gap is due to fact that they are half sisters, but they are really close. The sister goes back to the high school to honor her friends who were killed.

But I said that the surprise ending is that

the killer is successful in killing the sister and the main girl. In the present, the main girl is listed as missing and disappeared without a trace, never to be seen again

So I looked at IMDB for this movie and based on the IMDB credits:

if it's the predictable ending, there's a known name playing the older sister in her late 30's in the present and they want to keep that a secret towards the end (or they age up Antonia Gentry 20 years) or they go with the surprise one.

Tonight...

Close shaves,
the military industrial complex,
and two bottles of Jack Daniels.

36. Ready or Not (2019)

Finally watched this movie. So fun. I particularly love the side characters played by familiar actors. Even an actor from my favorite Tubi original, Lowlifes. And that ending is so wonderful and satisfying. Samara Weaving is great, but I do love the family.

37. Abigail (2024)

I find I am quickly becoming a fan of Radio Silence. And I suspect they are going to keep the fake blood in business for a while. I respect them to go monsterous for the vampires. Ain't no sexy vampires here. Amazing acting talent here as well for Barrerra to play off of. I do like her, but she needs strong actors to play off of.

High recommend their shorts from VHS and Southbound.

I remember not liking Devil's Due because the main two leads were insufferable but I last saw that a decade ago and feel like I should recheck it out.

That second one looks interesting, too. I love the mask.

If only the lead of Halloween 3 wasn't boring, I would like this movie more even with the whole Stonehenge nonsense. :hehe:

Repossessed or Scary Movie 2? One has Leslie Nielsen instead of James Woods...
