7.09 - Gemini - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

One of the best this season so far, but I have a theory on how Bizarro might have returned:

In "Blue", Zor-El caused an eclipse which blocked out the sun, since the yellow sun is pretty much what's been keeping Bizarro trapped on "the sunny side of Mars", I'm thinking Bizarro took this opportunity to escape and fly back to Earth. What if Bizarro returned to Smallvile first and spyed on Clark and Lana in their last scene together in "Blue" and over heard them talking about Kara's disappearence and Lana's obssesion with Lex! Then, Bizarro followed Clark to the Fortress just as Jor-El punished Clark for disobeying him. Bizarro sees Jor-El freeze Clark and sees this as the perfect opportunity to steal Clark's life from him while his in temporary on ice!

On the whole "how did Bizarro escape" speculation, I think we need two questions definitively answered:

  1. Did MM really take Bizarro to Mars?
  2. What did Zor-El specifically do to cause the sun to go dark?
    1. Was it an actual eclipse? eg: our moon passing between the Earth and the Sun and STAYING there?
    2. Was it dust particles (hmmmm... "dust?") held in suspension in the atmosphere similar to a Greenhouse Effect caused from a volcanic eruption or nuclear winter after a nuclear war?
    3. Or did he dampen the output of energy from the sun itself?

Extrapolations:

  1. An eclipse of the sun as seen on Earth would have NO EFFECT on sunlight hitting Mars. Zero.
  2. Dust particles in our atmosphere would have NO EFFECT on sunlight hitting Mars. Zero.
  3. Dampening the output of the sun? Yeah, um... WOW! That would effect the entire solar system, not just Earth. Considering the energy output of the sun, it would be ridiculous for the writers to even suggest that's what Kryptonians are capable of doing, never mind that puny little FOS at the north pole. If they could do that, there wouldn't be a Superman story.
To keep things as uncomplicated as possible, I hope they explain Chloe's quip as a joke and that MM really didn't take Bizarro to Mars. That opens up a Black Hole sized can of worms for anybody who really enjoyed their High School science classes. I kind of did. LOL :p

Well, I knew nothing spoiler-wise going into the show, and I loved it. I thought something was off with Clark from the first time he showed up--mainly because he didn't say anything about his experience at the FoS (He talked about being there, but didn't go into any detail about it).

But, Julian being a clone, Bizarro--totally surprised, and very entertained.

^ Welcome to The Hype!, Handsome Rob. :D

(Cool handle, btw! )

RuhRoh... I hope you didn't read the posts here? That would suck. Go watch the ep and come back. :D

where do you get these amazing smiles?
Y'know, I've been collecting 'em for years. Some are older than dirt. That one is somewhat new though - about two years old. :D

...In fact... I think I got that one from Avid. LOL

My eyes wandered, I saw "Julian....clone" and that's it....:wow: :csad:

But, to avoid any further spoiling, I shall leave this thread and watch the episode now. :D

My review:

This episode was fantastic!

It was packed with enough twists and turns for a season finale (many of which will be mentioned throughout this review, so don't read on if you don't want spoilers).

Clark and Lana took a back seat for the action this time as the main story focused on Lois, Chloe, Grant, and Jimmy. It weaved drama, romance and suspense together perfectly as Lois was manipulated to a failed clone of Lex's that endangered Chloe's life. After a tense, expertly-written beginning that established the different plotlines of the episode, Lois was forced to confront Lex in Grant's office by her puppeteer Adrian, who then decided to intervene when Lois was incapacitated. We learn about Grant's true origins and witness Lex's sheer ruthlessness. Although I was slightly disappointed that Grant was just a clone - the second usage of such a plot device this season - the way the writers handled it was great. This was combined with a more emotional scene with Jimmy and Chloe, who opened up to each other as they thought they were about to die.

The demonstration of Chloe's power was another excellent scene...I've been wanting to see her ability explored for a while now, and it was timed perfectly.

Although we've actually seen the Grant-Lois separation scene before, it was accomplished much better this time. Brilliant dialogue and brilliant acting.

The sub-plot was Clark returning from the Fortress. With Kara still missing, he tells Lana that he wants to take Lex down with her, leading to her revealing the lab assistant that was infected by Brainiac in "Wrath". She had been qurantined and is basically comatose - except she keeps muttering something in Kryptonian. After saving Chloe from the bomb and getting this translated (it is some sort of an "error message" - something is trying to turn itself on but cannot) he returns to the farm and reaffirms his feeling with Lana. They hug, and then...ready for the real shocker?...it's revealed that he isn't Clark at all - HE'S BIZARRO! We then flash to Clark frozen at the Fortress, and the episode ends.

If you've been having doubts about Smallville, then this episode should drown them out. I'm so excited to see where they are going to take this - is this a plot of Jor-El's? Has Bizarro somehow overcome Jor-El to imprison Clark (perhaps why the Fortress was so dark at the end)? What is Bizarro's next move going to be? Is Brainiac working with Bizarro? How will Kara factor into all this?

"Persona" can't come soon enough.

Yep, I used that one a few times around here. I cant remember where I originally got it from. I just recently got rid of all my smilies. I got the cleaning bug in me, and just deleted my whole file of them. Now I just make do with what they offer here. :O

I'm curious though, how do you post them. Do you have them hosted on your imageshack account, or do you just use the links from the Smilie Websites? I used to host them, and after a while I just got too lazy copying the links, which is why I didnt think twice about deleting them.

Great review!

Now that the dust has settled a little with me, I can see why everyone is enthusiastic about where the Bizarro storyline is going, I'm still very sad though that no one in Smallville realised he wasnt the real Clark. :(

The spoilers for "Persona" reveal that Chloe will be the first one to realize Clark isn't really Clark. Besides, if someone found out it was Bizarro so soon it would have spoiled the BIG twist at the end.:cwink:

I don't use imageshack, photobucket or any free hosting site. I have two domains on which I publish all of my shared files including smilies. :D

I have a text file that I cut and paste the links off of. It simplifies the process. Yeah, I'm a geek. LOL

I'm gonna take the rest of this conversation to the Persona thread since it's spoiler discussion. :)

The ending of this episode made it all worth while

This has got to be one of my favorites of the season. The ending! Clark! Hope he's ok. And I knew there was some twist coming but the Lex owning the Planet reveal and the Bizarro one were still done really well. Can't wait for Persona. :)
Sorry to hear you didn't like it as much, Sue. :( But I can understand being bothered about the lack of Clark! But I thought the episode was so good that hopefully it will build up to a good pay off in Persona, especially where Clark is concerned. *fingers crossed*

It wasnt the lack of Clark that really bothered me, it was the affect that his absence had. But I'm slowly coming around to this episode, I think I might like it more once I've seen Persona.

Thank you Cyn! ;)

I think Jor-El liberated Bizarro as part of Clark's punishment, then Clark will have to stop him (again!) on "Persona", we'll see.

That....actually makes more sense than his punishment being merely frozen. Let that dopelganger screw with his life for a little bit. =D

Personally, I think Bizarro may have gotten to Clark before Jor-El could give his punishment. I don't understand how Clark being frozen is punishment? That would be like a time-out or something. And I don't think Jor-El would unleash Bizarro just like that so Clark could stop him. I don't even think Jor-El knows about Bizarro. Clark being frozen in that crystal has to do with Bizarro. I'm sure of it.

Have you rewatched it, Sue? I liked it pretty well the first time through, but I really liked it a lot more after rewatching. That scene with Lex/Lois/Julian#1 and Julian#2 was really fantastic. Also, watching Tom's subtle changes when he's in Bizarro as Clark mode was even more impressive the second time around.

Are you really sure? Do you really think is a mere coincidence that at the end of "Blue", when Jor-El told Clark: "This defiance cannot go without consequence", then the FOS lights up and the result is.... a frozen Clark! Unless TPTB are misleading us, everything indicates that it was Mr. Freeze Jor-El who did this. How Bizarro got liberated is another thing, but how Clark got frozen is kind of evident.

But if Clark got frozen by Jor-El, what kind of punishment is that? I could understand back in season 5 when his powers were taken away. That was punishment. But being frozen in a crystal? That's like a time-out. They are inconvenient, yes, but I wouldn't think Clark would learn his lesson from that. I don't know what the punishment is supposed to be, but I think Bizarro has something to do with Clark being frozen.

It's all misdirection folks. This kind of cliffhanger is all about getting fans worked up so they come back for more. Reference the meltdown people had over retconning Memoria, or the "I'm so happy I can fly" line. Between good guy/bad guy Lionel and on again/off again Clark/Lana, daddy evol Jor-El is probably the longest running "WTF" anomaly on SV.

Yeah, I have and I did enjoy it more the second time but I was still equally annoyed by some parts. I think I may need to watch it a 3rd time just to be sure :yay: and as I said to Riva, once I see the conclusion in Persona, I might come around even more.
