The Dark Knight 7 Minute Prologue of The Joker attached to IMAX screenings of 'I Am Legend'

Cool featurette.

IMAX is the way big movies like this should be shown. It's such a shame that there aren't more theaters around the world.

Most films of late that are released in IMAX seem to be breaking records so why not build more theaters/screens? There's obviously demand for it especially with the resurgence of 3D movies.

i imagine cost factors into that alot, not to mention the sheer physical size and weight of the cameras

Sorry if this has been asked to death, but I want to clarify

Is the "prologue" infront of I Am Legend actually apart of the movie. Like when we go see the movie in July, will the prologue we see in December be in the movie, or was the prologue specifically shot just for the preview and not for the movie.

Sorry if thats way too confusing.

The WB execs claimed that it would be the first 5 minutes of the movie.

It better be "raiders of the lost ark" amazing.

When I saw BB on Imax, the aspect ratio was consistent throughout. Black bars on top and bottom. Kinda defeated the purpose for me.

So I guess the screen being 7x larger than a normal theater wasn't the purpose??

I still don't get it, could someone clarify this for me:

I understand particular scenes are being shot with the IMAX camera (ex: Joker's grand entrance). And this means that we'll likely be able to see TDK in IMAX theaters.
But what about the rest of the film? Is the 35mm film just going to be blown up footage to fit the IMAX screen? Will those particular scenes just seem higher in resolution while everything else is lower? How is this going to work with a mixture of big IMAX film and normal film?

I saw BB in Imax and I crapped my pants twice while watching it. That was shot in traditional 35 and it was superb. Im sure there will be a noticable diff between the two mediums. But if the first film rocked on the imax screen, then that means the imax portions of TDK will make everyone crap thier pants that much harder.

Question for those smarter about this stuff than me.

How will they transition the IMAX footage to a traditional screen format? Cropping? That's the only thing I can think of without making it look all squashed.

Which is cool, because I'm sure I'll likely see it the first time in regular theater so when I get a second viewing but in IMAX it'll be even more special because there will be more to see in those frames shot for IMAX that wasn't totally visible at the first viewing. If you follow what I'm saying.

This is the first film in history to be filmed in IMAX cameras. So, my best analysis on it will look is the comparison between 1080p hdtv to 1080i hdtv imagery. This film is going to be the highest resolution on screen ever, you understand? it will look better then 1080p, oh and for those with ps3, TDK teaser trailer is on the ps3 network, which is a good thing because it's beggining to targeted many many viewers and gamers alike. The resolution will be highly amazing and new, since the fact that they filmed 4 action sequence, this will definetly be kick ass, oh and there's no surprise it's a batman movie, the first in history a batflick to use IMAX technology hahahahhahaha, I'm loving this fully, all batman haters will feel the dark knight
s wrath.

I was under the impression that only 4 scenes were shot with IMAX cameras, and that they would only be shown in the IMAX version of the film, and that one of the scenes was the Joker intro.

no, they will be shown with all versions, they'll just be in higher def than the rest of the movie

I get the resolution thing, I think. But, Pfister threw me off with the taller than wider comment regarding the ratio. That's why I'm wondering if they have to crop the frames rather than resize them to fit a traditional screen. If I'm making any sense.

It won't look like it's been cropped because it was filmed with imax cameras. Batman begins in imax was just blowned up so it looked like it was streched, but this is specificly made for this. Taller then wide, like a full screen dvd compared to a widescreen dvd is my best analogy. It's going to look really good, and I can't wait until day of truths come...

I get that part, but my question is going from IMAX back to 16:9. You know? As you said, Begins was stretched to fit the IMAX screen. But since scenes in this are filmed in IMAX, won't those frames have to be modified to fit 16:9?
