The Dark Knight 7 Minute Prologue of The Joker attached to IMAX screenings of 'I Am Legend'

Wait a second, I thought any film blown up on the IMAX had increased resolution, despite the fact it was resized. But these 4 scenes will even have better resolution than that? (Not to mention fit the screen perfectly because they were filmed for the format?)

I get that part, but my question is going from IMAX back to 16:9. You know? As you said, Begins was stretched to fit the IMAX screen. But since scenes in this are filmed in IMAX, won't those frames have to be modified to fit 16:9?
I'm fairly certain that, along with those 4 scenes in IMAX, they also shot them with regular cameras just for cinema. I don't think they'd be able to convert the IMAX footage for use in a 16:9 theater. But I'm by no means an expert. It would just make sense to shoot with both cameras, and then have the IMAX moviegoers enjoy the IMAX footage, since that's what they're paying to see.

downloading now.
Looks great.

I just really hope the UK release of I am legend has the preview attached.

Wow. Can't believe I missed this.

And now I have a new avatar for the Bendis Boards.

so......TDK will begin with a joker prologue? i mean the actual movie, not the imax thing. and it will explain the whole "how he went from normal theif to mentally insane clown obsessed guy" in just 7 minutes?

Actually the IMAX scenes will just look much sharper and more real in a regular cinema.

We don't know for sure, but I'm pretty sure the assumption is that the prologue will be Joker and his goons robbing the bank and that Joker's origin is left a mystery.

so....nolan devotes an entire film to tellings batmans origin but doesnt even give joker a 5 minutes explanation? thats just strange.

Well, I e-mailed IMAX a few days ago to ask them about the TDK footage attatched to I Am Legend.

This was my e-mail:
Hey,

Quick Question. I have heard talk from several sources of the first few minutes of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight attatched to I Am Legend in IMAX... is this true? I simply ask because I want to make sure it is before I buy tickets (otherwise I'd rather not waste money). Thanks very much.

And this was the response I recieved:
Thank you for your e-mail to [email protected]. I Am Legend: The IMAX Experience will open in select IMAX theatres beginning December 14th. Visit www.IMAX.com in the next week or so for a list of theatres that will play the film. Once this list has been published, contact your local IMAX theatre directly regarding advance ticket purchases, pricing, etc. as this is all done at the theatre level.

As of yet there have not been any formal announcements regarding The Dark Knight footage being shown with I Am Legend.

Regards,
IMAX Corporation

This could be bad news... or maybe they just don't want to come out and say anything yet. Though if it was 100% and they didn't want to say anything... wouldn't they have just ignored my e-mail? :csad:

Though maybe the key is in the word "formal". Maybe it is true, they just don't want to formally announce it.

doing it in IMAX is really cool, but 3D just seems a little...gimmicky to me. perfect for something like beowulf. but i'd like TDK to have a bit more dignity, not have a bunch of things coming toward the camera just for the hell of it.

thats just strange.

Not really. Joker's origin have always been a mystery. The only thing we know that he was once the Red Hood, but we don't know what he was before that. While there has been several origins on him, none has confirmed to be the truth. Even Joker never say what his true past was.

Batman on the other hand isn't mysterious to us, since we know who he is & how he became who he is.

It's the opposite of what Burton did where he explained Joker but kept Batman as a mystery. Here, Nolan is going in the other direction.

That's a good thing. We don't need to see what we already saw, so Nolan going with something else.

so uh, the black Lamborghini Murcielago... new Batmobile, or Bruce's Sunday drive? :woot:

it looked Matte black..

Oh no!!! Nolan's doing something different from Burton!!! Or something Burton didn't do!!!!

Dogs and cats living togetherrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!

This just makes Nolan even more awesome, I can't wait to see this prologue and see more of Heath's Joker, he sounds so amazing already!

I love Burton but thank god Nolan is doing a lot of things differently...Burton's Batman's was so far from Batman, it hurts.

Has anyone informed Jimmy that his posts are not funny and are instead just annoying and clutter the board up or am I taking a bold step in the right direction?

jimmy is the bestest evorz!!1!
