I am still in the thinking of what if Bane had captured Batman/Bruce for the eight years that have passed, that could also explain why Alfred is telling Bruce that he has let him down in the trailer? And why Gordon is trying to convince him Batman needs to return, because in his absence Gotham has turned to the wrong type of figure. Just a thought.

No, because then how can Miranda Tate be trying to get a still grieving Bruce back on track in Wayne Enterprises when Bane hits? If Batman had been captive and has just escaped from Bane's prison there's no room for all the character development stuff we've been hearing.

Bruce Wayne's faithful butler and, let's be honest, adoptive father, Alfred, concedes that it may take Batman some time to get back into the "old routine." Remember that this film takes place eight years after THE DARK KNIGHT. Time, however, is not a luxury Bane is going to afford anyone.

I guess that confirms that some sort of retirement has taken place between films.

It seems more people are finally in agreement with me that Bruce is retired for those 8 years?

Haha, geez, what more info do you need? It just doesn't make sense and defeats the purpose of the sacrifice for Batman to do what he did in TDK and then put on the cape the next day and go out on the beat. For, what...a month? One year? 2 years?

No, I still say he is done.

He may be doing a lot of bat-computer work in his downtime but I think that counts as retired in this sense.

Why? How does that defeat the purpose of his sacrfice? I thought he was supposed to take it, and be the silent guardian, the watchful protector, the dark knight?

"The Bat" is equally hard to make. It'd take a lot of time and a lot of money, and building it had to be for Bruce to use as Batman.

lucius fox made it done when batman was MIA. He gave it as a last present, when batman came back. because lucius fox believed that he was going to come back.

sorry wrong post.

I still don't think he'll be gone entirely for the eight years. He'll be away for a while yes, but I don't think Batman hangs up the cowl immediately after he rides into the night at the end of TDK. The narrative of that film doesn't really support that idea.

On the contrary I think it makes perfect sense giving the story...

Not too mention every thing that points to him being retired for eight years.

Been reading through this thread for a while now and yea it seems to me like there's a strong case for 8 year retirement. I personally think its ridiculous to have Batman inactive for such a long stretch of time, I mean honestly 8 years? I take a week of from the gym and I feel like cr@p, I just don't know how they're gonna convince me that a Batman both older and out of practice by nearly a decade is going to somehow beat Bane a character who is specifically written to be far stronger, faster and more brutal than any other Batman Rouge. That's like telling Michael Jordan to come out of retirement and play LeBron in a full-court 1-on-1 game, don't get me wrong MJ's the greatest but there is less than a 0% chance the game would even be close.

You obviously didn't watch the Last Rocky movie.

Did you just compare your gym routine to being Batman?

Last few posts on here are :funny:

I've accepted that he has been retired the last 8 years.

By now we know to expect the unexpected with this series so yes, in this universe it is very possible that Gotham hasn't seen Batman for many years.

I havnt fully accepted this though, I'm still battling with myself lol

Oh come on, really...?

Not at all. I compared being a human being (me) to a character who is also a human being (Batman), and implied that us both being human and bound by the same limitations of our human physiology there is no way in hell me or any other person can go on hiatus for 8 years and be even remotely close to their previous prime. fyi I've played football and track most of my life so take it from someone who knows, miss a week of practice and try to get in the game you're getting injured bad.
