Looks like Hollywood Reporter will be airing the roundtable discussions on Sundance TV next month. ugh.

Leo may not be a sure thing for a win, But I think a nom is a lock.

Leo gets nominated all the time. I'd be very surprised if he isn't nominated for The Revenant. Whether he wins or not is considerably more uncertain.

Supposedly his role has very little dialogue and has more emphasis on being physically arduous than really the acting side.

I've read several reviews that think Hardy in The Revenant is more scene-stealing, and gets a lot more dialogue and has kind of a more complex character.

Legend got mixed reviews but a lot of critical praise for Hardy. He just won the British Independent Film Award for Best Actor last night, the first time he's won since Bronson. If he gets enough critical attention between Legend and The Revenant, he could get his first Oscar nom.

I personally can't wait to see Leo's loser face again. :yay:

LEO: "It's gonna be mine this time, Tom, I can feel it"

HARDY: "****in' alley"

I don't think Leo is gonna win. I just don't. Redmayne's role is just too Oscar baity, and they're doing everything right now to gain favor.

I'll be genuinely shocked if Redmayne doesn't get it.

He ain't winning it twice in a row unless his performance blows the other 4 noms away. TDG isn't as good as people thought it might be either. So that doubt has crept in.

Hnnnnngh Redmayne in drag

Not about how good it is, it's the subject matter. If the story wasn't true it'd be a pinnacle of Oscar bait fiction. The transgender thing is "in" right now.

That is true but his performance would have to be on another level above the other guys to win it back to back. If he hadn't won it last year, his performance here might give him a better chance. We actually don't know who's getting nominated either, GG noms are next week. We'll get a better idea there.

Actually, Golden Globe nominations are announced on 10th December.

I see a lot of people predicting Spotlight will get a best pic and best screenplay nomination but not best director.

Is there a reason why?

Beats me, I would include it but that movie is the definition of a best picture and best screenplay hands down.

I still need to see Spotlight, man. Keep forgetting.

I thought Spotlight was getting a Best Pic nomination but didn't think it would win. Seems like it's the early favourite.

Kinda surprised Hardy didn't get a nod for Supporting.

I am, however, thrilled to see Beasts of No Nation getting some love. Especially Elba.

And supporting actor continues to be a revolving door. I'm glad Elba and Shannon made it, but no Stallone is disapointing. Also, it's great that Straight Outta Compton got into the ensemble nods. And I'm still trying to figure out how they're passing Vikander off as Supporting for Danish Girl.

Awards fraud is a common thing my friend. Rooney Mara in Carol isn't Supporting, she's "Lead" but the studio thinks that she has more chance of winning in " Supporting Actress". So they put her in that.

I'm disappointed Hardy got no nods for either Legend or Revenant.

He should have gotten notice for Bronson in 2008.

Not surprised at all that Eddie, Leo, and Fass are on there. Am pleasantly surprised to see Johnny Depp though, as I thought his performance would have been forgotten by now.

I've been told that the DGA seems to be favoring George Miller for Best Director right now. Based on several director Twitter feeds discussing Fury Road, I can believe it. They are enamored by it.

Miller for Best Director would not be unwarranted. What he achieved on a technical filmmaking level with Fury Road was extraordinary.

Though I also feel Ridley Scott and Robert Zemeckis merit at least technical nominations for their seamless blends of CGI and practical effects and superior use of 3D in The Martian and The Walk.

I also liked Danny Boyle's direction of Steve Jobs.
