9.02 - Metallo - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

That is what I am mother f-ing talking about!!

This episode ruled from start to finish & I'll be quite honest I was a little wary of how they'd portray Metallo & how it would all play out. But honestly it all turned out superb

Zod helping create Metallo was quite an interesting twist.. but in a way it kinda all fits out pretty well in Smallville's universe where Kryptonite has been used for everything. I don't know Metallo's definitive origin however I always thought Lex was responsible for his creation.. but if this was the case why would he only make one of him & not 100 considering he often wants Superman dead..
I liked it all anyway

This episode had 2 or 3 very well shot scenes, the rooftop scene where he was listening in on everything was quality, but my favourite had to be the shot after Lois had regained consciousness (after taking quite a backhander into surprisingly soft pipes ) when all you could see was the S in the shadows. It reminded me alot of the cover of the public enemies series of Superman where hes in the shadow & all you can see is the S (sweeties for anyone who can dig it out )
I was wondering why in the promo pictures the S looked like it had been given a bit more of a white look, it was so all you'd be able to see was the logo..

Overall I thought this episode was great from start to finish, I'd actually say its probably in my top handful of favourite episodes that the show has produced

I think most of the episodes you see from here on out are going to be pretty good since it's getting closer to him becoming Superman. All the references and nods to the hero are going to be fun to watch.

prison mike i know a few mentioned over on ksite the other night they thought it would have been a good time to have glasses with clark back. But since he was only gone for like 4-5 weeks in total. Everyone he works with knows he doesnt wear glasses. So it just would have been odd to just have glasses now. Sure its going to be one hard thing to come up with a logical idea for glasses now and all that.

oh yea doing a world wide mind wipe would be so stupid. It pretty much will have to be some crazy thing with glasses causes folks to see different image type of deal. Hell i kinda like that idea i heard before season starting. Saying that jorel made the S on his black outfit and while he wears that no one realise its clark kent. That would have been an interesting idea to go with.

I was definitely feeling some lesbian undertones between the two... and it's not just me being a horny teenage male sensing lesbianism everywhere I look! If I hadnt watched the episode where they fought and just tuned in to this one, I would've thought they had intercourse...

I truly enjoyed the first episode and thought it was a great start and heading in the right direction after a somewhat disappointing finale last year. But this episode was just so much better, and frankly the credit goes to Brian Austin Greens ( or BAG, as he's often referred to) very awesome performance, and overall good writing for this episode. The res of the cast is as usual very solid . Welling does justice to this new phase of Clarks Life.
Very often the villain of such superhero stories is given some lame excuse to wanting to take down the hero and it often takes the magic away from the the story because it feels so forced and predictable, and most of all formulaic, but what Smallville has done with this character is really a great thing that adds so much more to this character than I ever dreamed they would. In giving Corben a legitimate reason to hate The Blur, further fueled by the poisonous effects of the kryptonite heart, the story becomes far more interesting than just waiting for a final battle because the so-called bad guy has to be stopped. Green delivers a really great performance that I really wasn't expecting from him, like at all. He just didn't seem like that type of actor before, so this was such a surprise and really sold Corbens animosity towards The Blur.
And can somebody tell me whether or not they've had their budget increased this year? Because with the awesome eye candy that Saviour and Metallo offered, I'm definitely inclined to believe so.
Either way, I really hope they keep this up, because so far it's been two really great episodes.

This is the first episode I've watched in forever.

The highlight of the episode was BAG's fantastic acting, he really sold the role. The problem is the show is still very poorly written. Chloe is still annoying and pining for Clark seemingly one way or the other and Corbin's reason for hating Clark didn't hold water or it wasn't excuted well enough.

Tom Welling seems to be just as awful an actor in season 9 as he was in season 1. He almost ruins the scenes with a firey and perfectly cast Erica Durance as Lois Lane. It was an okay for Smallville episode I guess, because of BAG's fantastic performance and Durance ability to embarrass Kate Bosworth's Lois at every turn.

Well then, since you seem to show so much passion for plot and substance, how about we hear some of your brilliant ideas as to what would have made the episode " hold water" and " better execution" thoughts.
And as for your thoughts on Wellings acting, Holy God, you are just plain and simply either an incredibly dedicated hater of the man, or just simply a person with some very confused ideas on what makes good or bad acting. My bet would be on the latter. You make no sense what so ever. Is he a great actor? No he's not, but in no way, shape or form is he what you claim him to be. I understand that this is merely your opinion and frankly not one I either agree with or hold in high regard, but you seem to have a very strange definition of what makes good acting.

again, if anything, he's improved greatly since S1. I'll admitt his acting was a little here and there when he first started, but he was still getting the hang of it and still did a better job than most of us could do today.

my guess is if "Returns" had never been made, you'd be nailing Durance for not being enough like Kidder

The only thing I agree with her on is the comment about Brian Austin Green.
Green was given a rare opportunity to really shine as an actor in this episode and he took the challenge and rose to the occasion. And exactly how many years has he been in the business? For almost 20 frickin' years, and this is the first time I've seen him give this type of performance, and even though he displayed charm in the first episode, it was absolutely nothing spectacular.
Metallo gave him a chance to dig deep and really pour himself out.
Remind me again, just when exactly have they EVER given Welling such an opportunity that they gave Green here? To act like a mad man filled with frustration, fury, sadness all in one, and in the end an all out maniac?
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Over the years Welling has been caught in a loophole where he had to constantly repeat himself because of lousy writing and no progress for his character. He was never given the chance to really develop as an actor, and even then he still managed to bring Clark to life and make it his own, and do a damn good job. Over the years he really has given some good performances and not surprisingly those episodes happened to be some of the more well written ones.
So It becomes an almost impossible task to take I SEE SPIDEEY and her opinion seriously when she hasn't watched the show for ages and just drops in with comments that Wellings acting just isn't up to her unique requirements.

In a way Lex Luthor is still responsible for the creation of this version of Metallo, because the mechanical parts Zod & his goons used to put Corben back together again as a Cyborg all came from Luthorcorp (which connects to two previous key episodes that basically foreshadow the birth of Metallo "Cyborg" & "Prototype".) Also the discussion Tess had with Dr. Vale leads me to believe Lex will have a role to play in the upgraded version of Metallo vol.2 (Where he's more machine than man .)

Great episode. BAG was awesome as usual. I liked how Metallo was created. Nice twist to his origin. Lois's "real life Terminator: line was a nice nod to TSCC. All and all a solid episode with great acting from all involved.

As far as the glasses go. I think with the JSA episode coming up, Clark may get some help from them. They are basically retired and living amongst us with out being noticed and they lived the dual identity life for a long time. A couple of the original JSA were pretty powerful with magic and the sort.

yeah, Welling's acting could be better but compared to what it was before, I think it has improved.

did you find the breathing creepy? Was like Darth Vader only creepier and it kind of made sense with what they were doing. Loved how the Kryptonite seemed to beat as well.

Yeah I liked that Lois was missing Clark. Hey does she know about Jimmy yet?

Despite the doubts some had of Brian Austin Green, I wasn't at all worried of how Metallo would be portrayed, and was very impressed. I've been a fan of his for a while now, so I was eager to see him play one of my favorite villains in my favorite show.

Smallville hasn't failed me, and I doubt it ever will. The cast and crew are the best. TV entertainment has lacked over the past decade with reality shows and such, but I always turn to Smallville when all else fails... until it ends.

I actually thought BAG pretty much walked all over him in the acting department. I knew from TSCC that he was a good actor now, but it really showed when able to compare to someone who doesn't quite have the same skill set.

It wasn't just you . I too noticed that Tess was defintely flirting with Lois . just like she did in the season 8 premiere episode "Odyssey" When Lois was disguised as a French Maid .

I think hes great half the people dont even know what good acting is, they just simply call people they dont like bad actors and people they like good actors
