The Dark Knight A reference to NO Robin in a future Batman film . . .

I really dont foresee anything Robin or Robin related being brought up in this franchise. To introduce and set up the character would take too long, and this (hopefully) next film will be about Batman clearing his name. There will be no time for Robin, unless the film has a 300 minute run time..

Well, I think it's got more to do with how the movie plays out, Batman gets a lot of help, from Fox, Alfred, Gordon, Dent, who he really couldn't do this without. Plus, he sees Dent as his ultimate "help" as his heir, so I'd rather see it as Batman contradicting himself.

A lot of people tend to over-analyze a line or word when really they shouldn't. It's the same thing with the cat line. Why do people think its a reference to Catwoman? I thought it was just a humorous answer to counter Bruce's questions about dogs.

Sigh...

Was this really necessary? Do people just go "Oh, you know what, I found this insignificant line in the film amusing, I'll make a thread about it and get flamed for it, it's only Thursday after all"

have you guys read Batman: Dark Victory by loeb and sale??

it's a good read for you guys who think robin is worthless. this is the perfect time for batman to gain a new ally; after the events of the dark knight anyway...now that gordon is on the other side of the end. batman will go at it alone, and only go so far. in dark victory, he starts coming up short, and missing things here and there; refusing help from gordon, catwoman, gordon, and anyone else willing to help. it's not until he's confronted by dick grayson, a spitting image of himself, that he realizes he's not alone in the war on crime. grayson not only helps him emotionally, but also mentally and physically. dick helps bruce become the father bruce didn't have, dick even helped him solve some cases on the hangman, and help defend the cave at the end. JUST READ IT!!! it's bale's personal favorite by the way.

i'm not saying robin is a necessity in the next film, it's just that he's essential. you can't throw him away. dick grayson should at least appear in the end of 3rd or beginning of 4th.

but all i'm saying is that batman's in need of some kind of ally in the next movie, now that gordon is chasing him. i'm thinking maybe catwoman or jason bard..since you all dearly hate robin so much. robin is a good character though!! tim drake being the best...but there's no future for that kid in any kind of media besides the comics. lol.

Seriously? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

This is worse than the supposed "catwoman" reference because Fox spoke about the armor being resistant to certain animals. No really, if there was a crocadile in the background in the next movie someone would go ZOMGGGG KILLER CROC!!!!!!!!1111

Sorry, I like doing that.

I'm surprised no one made mention of Spawn er...Gambol.

Did anyone notice the paticular scene in The Dark Knight where all the mobsters and the fake 'batmen' are apprehended and Brian Douglas (the paticular 'batmen' that the Joker later takes hostage) tells Batman that "we're trying to help you" and Batman responds by saying "I don't need any help" . . . well if you didn't I did and I was just thinking if this was truly Christopher Nolan telling all us fans that he really does not want Robin in a future series.

Nolan has stated before, as has Christian Bale, that he does not want Robin to appear in his movies, but I was just thinking if this could be a direct statement, yet hidden in the moment, that Batman will always be alone and there will be no Robin.

Thoughts, ideas, anything else?

you may be reading a little too much into that line though dude.

although i can assuredly say that i wouldnt want Robin involved in the trilogy, i wouldnt mind them giving a short cameo to Dick Grayson. in BB, Batman and that kid from the slums played off well with each other. so if they are to formally make a scene for Grayson, i'm pretty sure Nolan will do well to convey it without making it look cheesy or Batman looking inferior.

I can really see Dick Grayson in future Batman films, maybe Bruce becomes a Carer of a kid he identifies with.

The Joker did a magic trick, that must be a nod to Zatana.

See, I can do it too.

Nolan has stated that Robin will never be in his Batman films. What about this do people not understand?

I really hope this isn't the case. I really would like to see Robin taken seriously in the films. Although I have to say that Chris O'Donnel was probably the ONLY thing I liked about the Schumaker films. You could tell he took the roll seriously.

But I'd like to see a younger Robin, like 15 or 16, and Bruce connects with him because of the death of his parents. That's what I want to see.

I agree.

This "no Robin in a Batman film" is the only thing I disagree with in Nolan's films (and non-perma white Joker).

If done right, and seriously, the character of Robin could be a great addition to these movies.

Oh dear! Talk about looking into something too much!!

There's a difference between subtle clues and the complete lack of clues. Why would there be hints? Especially that badly. He might as well "well I don't need a sidekick, I know that......yet"

This isn't Schmacher....

Could also be a link to David Copperfield....hang on....Cobblepot?

WHY it's a blatant reference to the Penguin, surely!

:whatever:

taht line kind of goes with the line "Batman has no limits" at this point Bruce thinks he can save Gotham on his own with Gordon and others. He doesn't realise he might need a replacement yet.

There is nothing directly implied about Robin in that scene. You're really reaching there.

He never said "I don't need any help" he said "I don't need you're help"

i kinda thought it was a reference to robin when i saw it for the second time.:o

I think that, at best, Robin will get to be in a spin-off of the Batman series (perhaps detailing his career later on), and not in Nolan's universe. Who knows?

i think nightwing would work, if he was some other vigilante in Gotham that is more violent than Batman. Batman could track him down or summin and realise hes just some young kid so he takes him on and tries to channel his anger like what Ra's did in batman begins.
