Latest pic of Aaron Eckhart from the Directors Guild Awards(2/3/07):

Although the costume and character would translate badly on film today (unless set in the 1940s), that pic of Eckhart just screams:

"Steve Rogers: Captain America"

-- Admiral Nelson

he's too old and not "pretty" enough for Captain America

And I managed to get a "we'll see" out of Aaron Eckart regarding his potential casting in "The Dark Knight" later in the evening at the bar. "We'll see" is well and good, but "Where did you hear that?" really raised my eyebrow. I think it's the best rumored casting for the Harvey Dent role we've come across since Liev Schreiber, so here's hoping Nolan lands him for the part.

How did this turn into a "Dark Knight" post? Oh, right - I'm a Batman dork.

Weeelll, very interesting...

...and how do you find these things?
:ninja:

He HAS to get it at this point. If it's not him, I think the majority of us will be disappointed. And honestly, I can't picture anyone else right now. I think all this talk about Jamie Foxx, Edward Norton, Denzel... it's raising the bar TOO DAMN HIGH. Huge actors like them would never want to have such a small role like Dent in TDK. Dent is an extremely small part of TDK... The focus of the movie will be The Joker.
So, it was inevitable that they could only get a "lesser known" actor like Eckhart for Dent. That's not to say that he's NOT a good actor (he's fantastic), but it just means that he is perfect for the role, since he is not too big of a star to NOT want a small part like this.

Eckhart for Dent. It has to happen.

I merged Miranda,it's a cool tidbit but i think it will refresh discussion in this thread instead of needing another:yay:

I agree it would be bad with all this Eckhart buildup-suspense and the actor is someone we never thought of like Josh Harnett.

you would think that they would release something by now...since production will start NEXT month.

They're not intentionally being secretive, the problem is the negotiations and contractual end of it. They can't announce anything until they're 100% certain that it's signed, sealed, and delivered.

Be patient. When its all inked out, we'll hear about it immediately. That's a promise.

We'll see? Please don't tell me he's having doubts.

I'd hate for this to turn into a situation where they have to start filming with an important role still uncast. I recall something similar happened on the Bourne Ultimatum where Gael Garcia Bernal turned down the villain role. That kind of puts the crew in a predicament.

well, honestly...I don't he has any doubts, Retro.

Eckhart hasn't done anything special until Thank You For Smoking. Why would he, who had a string of bombs, turn down this opportunity of a lifetime and a chance to work with talented people?

^^I know but he wouldn't the first actor to turn down Nolan. It's possible that there are other offers on the table or maybe he just doesn't think the role is for him? Or for all we know he could be in a room fitting trying on his Dent costumes as-we-speak.:woot: God, i hope the latter is the case cause i've had it with all these rumors.

so many rumors..and its frustrating at this point b/c Iron Man is getting offical casting news left and right...and I swear, its hard to beleive that Dark Knight is starting production at the sametime.

Yeah i know.

Like Gill said, I'm sure it's the contractual end of it, and once that's inked, Eckhart will be announced officially I'm sure.

Either that, or Nolan will pull another one out of left field with the announcment, you never know with the history of his casting. With Eckhart's "we'll see", it definitely sounds like they're in the negotiation stage.

You said it, still no Dent, no idea what's going on with the Dawes character and now Sir Michael Caine doesn't even know when filming is to begin!

judging by Nolan's history of unusual casting, is anyone even a little bit scared that they'll announce someone completely ridiculous? I'd hate to see another "um, I guess he can do it" cast member after Ledger

to me "we'll see" implies his signed something that says he can't disclose it, and didn't he also say "where did you hear that"?

sounds like a man who's been found out to me.
