The Dark Knight Rises Adapting Robin

As important as it is to robins look, I always thought exposed hair would **** up the secret identity part of things now we have DNA checks.

After watching that Greyson youtube video I'm convincted that there could be a good movie from this...

Yeah, if someone were going for that, but the same could be said for exposed skin... distinguishing a specific person's hair after a fight can be a nightmare... especially if you're trying to match it to a MINOR's DNA...

well if you grabbed Robin by the hair and ripped some out and got away.
You could have his hair for certain and get it tested. I'm sure he is in the grid because of being an orphan and all

The same parameters of realism and logic found in BB cannot apply to Robin, no way. He can only be introduced when things like that start flying out the window a little - leaving flowing hair and an unprotected head a non issue. These features are crucial to his look, they can't be compromised.

Not in this trilogy no. Nothing more than Dick Grayson at the end of movie three, if anything. But if there ever is a fourth movie or a Robin based trilogy I wouldn't like the believablilty to go completely out the window, Burton Schumacher style. It doesn't have too. You can create a serious world that accommodates Robin and I think there's a alot of good stories there to tell about him and Batman. There's never been a movie about a crimefighting mentor and student.

Ignoring the Robin question for a second, I like the idea of Paul Telfer for Nightwing. I'm watching him on Sci-Fi channel play Hercules and he's a fairly decent actor who could have no problem playing the role.

Dude has the look spot-on, perfect for Nightwing, certainly has the built, he's 6'1, just two inches taller than Nightwing's actual height. Natural black hair and blue eyes. Homeboy could pull it off. Just wanted to voice my new choice instead of making a thread on who should be Nightwing.

Although, we don't have that in this forum...I'm surprised we haven't tackled a casting poll for a future Nightwing here.

Believe it or not, I thought that Robin from Batman Forever/Batman and Robin was somewhat of a realistic point of Robin in terms of bodily features. What I mean is that while a Robin with longer hair as he usually is portrayed could be hunted down EASILY, a Robin with short hair (Chris O'Donell's) would be harder to catch because his hair can't be pulled out as easily. In terms of a suit, I think a Batman Begins-type Nightwing suit might work while a Robin suit would be more apt to make him an easy target.

On a game which involves heroes, I toyed around with the character-creation system and came up with something like this a while back:

It definitely is a design that could've been better, but I think it can actually fit to a degree. Though this doesn't actually give the example of shorter hair, this is what I could see something similar as for Robin.

On the right track ^ I like the feather motifs especially

do you have a link to the creation system?

Yeah he will be great and he's 15 but if Robin makes his debut in two years time so he will be 17 and still be cast as Robin.

Posted this earlier, thought people here would enjoy it.

"i think robin could work, IF you use him right.

to have robin work you NEED to build on bruce's guilt.

Dick grayson's a 17 year old member of the flying graysons, a high-flying family of trapease artists, and the circuse's main attraction.then theirs the death, murder, yada yada yada you know that part. the big differince is, bruce didint come to enjoy the show, he CAME to observe boss Zucco, but is using the guise of bruce wayne as his simplistic disguise (guess it's a perk of the duel idenity thing.) Zucco, in my mind, would be another mobster in the long line of those attempting to fill the criminal void left by batman. The ringmaster (guessing he owns the circus) is in major debt with zucco, and, as a result of NOT paying him, zucco decides to cut his best act short. maybe they have some kind of history together that makes zucco hate him that much more, not sure.

Bruce, in the auidence, is actualy the one who runs over to save grayson. leaping amidst the chaos and catching him with a tuck-and-roll. but it's too late for his parents.

Bruce, carrying an unconcious dick grayson outside, runs him over to a crew of paramedics while he run's and quickly don's his batman garb "brought it with him VIA limo...and alfred" and chases down the murderers and Zucco, but Zucco get's away. Later, gordon meets batman on their roof, and they talk about what's happend. gordon explains that grayson has noone, and the orphanages in gotham are beyond cruel, everyone knows it, so he's scared for the boy, especialy with all the attention he'll be getting due to the media blitz about the crazyness of the whole thing. The Bat leaves, and visits grayson in the hospital, with alfred beside him. alfred ask's him what he is thinking, and bruce decides to let dick stay untill everything blows over, give the boy time to heal until he can move on, no one is sure how, but bruce isint making this temporary, not with the life he leads.

basicaly, the idea is to have dick be taken in by bruce, not as a ward, but just as someone who cares, something he knew his FATHER would do if put under the same situation.

Dick has fallen into a deep depression, and bruce, struggling over how this affects his life, is having a hard time being there for the boy. Alfred however, is picking up some slack, and enjoys graysons humor and charm. he's a smart kid, going through a very hard time, but he's still who he is at the end of the day, and we can see little moments of that when he lets himself out of his darkness.

i would build bruces relationship from there, maybe something to do with dick going missing, and bruce finding him at the spot where his parents died. bruce, from here on in "with a little encouraging from alfred" would solve this problem in his own way, by bringing justice to the grayson case.

a KEY point in the story would involve a raid at wayne mansion by zucco and his boys, pissed off at dick grayson for the unwanted attention he's getting (by batman, by a leak in the media saying he's a prime suspect in this murder, and by gordon, who somehow knows more than he should, considdering zucco's paying big to keep gotham's finest in the dark). zucco's boy's barge in, and during this time batman isint present to stop their actions. they come in and hurt alfred, badly. and begin looking for the boy. grayson makes a daring attempt to escape, but is eventualy caught, and left hurt aswell, possibly with a broken leg, something close to that. alfred, with his badass michaelcainery, winds up suprising the man attempting to kill dick, and takes him out.(not to dinner, if you're wondering.) and, in a desperate attempt to escape, takes the injured dick(hehe) into the safest place he knows, the batcave. he proceedes to call bruce and tell him to get his arse back, because really, he kinnddaa need's to be there.

once the men are done with, and everyone's had time to heal, bruce decides it's necessary to have a bigggg talk with grayson. realising dick can't go anywhere else now, bruce takes him in, 1: to keep an eye on him, and 2: to train him, not as a FUTURE PARTNER or anything, but to prevent him from being hurt when bruce isint there. he realises that dick has become a big part of his life now, and he isint going to let people exploit that and ruin the mission. besides, he can't have a 17 year old orphan who know's his secret out in the open, it makes him a loose end bruce really can't have.

well, cutting the last bit short, i though dick would become robin of his own accord, maybe after a few months/a year or so of training. not meaning that he's just as GOOD as batman after a few months, but enough for him to kick some ass on the outside when needed. Dick becomes somewhat like a younger oracle during this time, relaying information to bruce VIA the computer when necessary. better to have two people relaying information than one (so alfred and dick are perhaps, both on stand-by if bruce needs anything). during a time where alfreds needed with bruce during a high-risk infiltration (like a major gathering of richie riches with another person who needs watching over, like a talia al-ghul thing or something.) danger could insue, and, as a result of being cut off with communication, dick decides to do the "right thing" and steals a ton of equiptment (thinking some prototype armor, or his training outfit maybe? some high tech gauntlets, a retractable staff, an old belt from one of bruces suits and like, a red hoodie over it, and perhaps some goggles) then heads out on a bat-pod to save his new family, or at least help them.

"Robin" would be successful, but that wouldint matter, and bruce would be furious that dick even attempted something so insane. dick admits that he see's himself being partners with bruce, wanted to help take out guys like zucco so he doesint need to worry that more people like him are getting hurt on the outside. bruce, being who he is, refuses entirely, and decides the entire thing was a mistake, he takes actions to have dick transfered out of gotham and with a family he believes will be good for grayson. dick, who will have none of this, run's away, leaving no trail of where he's going or even giving any warning to his wereabouts. bruce looses him, and struggles over the reality of letting anyone into his life, he feels the pain he felt when loosing his parents (maybe not to the same degree. but similar). and never really get's over his failure, but, again, utilizes that pain and put's it into his mission, much like his fear of bats or the pain of loosing his parents. in the end, robin here enhances batman, instead of hindering him, which i think a lot of people use as a reason to hate robin in the first place.

eventualy of course, these two would run into each other years later in bludhaven, dick, having kept with his training (but with applying his own athletics and ninjutsu with the gritty, streetfighting of his new home) has now become nightwing, which bruce objects to, but seeing him gives him a sense of closure, and their relationship may eventualy become less strained over time.

just thought it'd be a cool idea. maybe dick even changes his name to jason todd when he leaves, during his years as a broke and near-homeless crimefighter in a worse city than gotham. and returns to "dick grayson" when he decides to join the police academy at 20.

any thoughts are welcome."

i say put robin in justice league. that's the ONLY way to go. that or no robin at all. with justice league being the more flashy kind of movie; the way comic book movies should be - robin should definitely be in it.

and that way, it could be tim drake/robin. in that teen titans movie, it could be dick grayson/nightwing.

no not in the justice League:down
the original 7 should be the ones in the Justice league

well...at least he's in the new frontier animated dtv. that's probably the closest thing we're gonna get of robin being in a movie.

I'm conflicted on this. While I think it'd be a good idea to start with a very young Dick Grayson, and rehash the Circus tragedy which was used in Forever, I never really picture Robin as a kid. The first comic I had of him was Bloodlines, which tied into the origin of the shortlived character Razorblade.

He couldn't have been older than 17 there. Still, he'd need a film about him. A "Robin Begins". It'd be a Batman Begins sequel, but unlike Batman Forever, it'd be more about Robin than it would be the villains. None of this "let's barely have him fight" crap. He spends more time running away from the bat signal at the end than he does fighting the villains.

There's no reason Nolan and his team shouldn't be able to work with that. I'll give you guys the mask issue; that'd have to be larger. Maybe he should have long red sleeves to cover up the bare arms, but overall this is one of my favorite superhero designs of anyone.

Do it, guys. You know you want to.

I say if you are not gonna stay true to the character then don't bother at all. I hate hate hate these "interpretations". Robin should be Dick Grayson complete with the circus origin and red/yellow/green union suit.

I would like to see TDK end with Bruce at the circus.
