People wouldn't find it strange that a billionaire play boy adopts a kid.. ya that kidn of needs to be fixed
So fix THAT part, instead of rewriting the whole thing.
ie Grayson is a witness in the Zucco case that needs to be protected, the Gotham Police are too corrupt to do it, and Gordon's got his own problems and can't do it. Bruce has to take him in temporarily and it sticks.
See? Don't change the origin just to change it, you take away all the GOOD parts of Robin's character by doing so.
Now it's hard to pull Robin off in a movie, because even if he's trained by the greatest, people aren't going to buy a 13 year old kid kicking the **** out of a full grown man. So it is hard to pull off. So people automatically wanna make him older. Which ruins the story IMO. Look at Batman Forever. That Dick Grayson is old enough to drive and live on his own. It's impossible for Bruce to even adopt him. There is NO father/son dynamic there at all, which I believe is the core of the Robin story.
Keep Robin young. But it's difficult to pull off. It's a Catch 22. I know.
You know what would fix that problem completely? If people would remember it takes about 5 years of training to be a vigilante. Bruce took 7 on his own, not counting his formal schooling. If he's training someone else, he could probably knock it down to 5. Meaning if Robin comes in at 18, acrobat or not, he shouldn't be able to be Robin (rappelling, driving, be a ninja, master several other martial arts, being a forensic scientist, having some intuition about crime in general, have excellent marksmanship, and more) until he's 23. If Robin comes in at 11, like in the comics, then at 16 years old he'll have five years of Bat-Training and him ninjaing on some thugs will seem at least vaguely plausible.
Once again, the comics aren't broken... don't let the bright costume fool you. Robin should come in as a child and spent 3-7 years training.
Also, Robin doesn't have to kick butt in a movie, just him being around, not getting hit, and causing havok would be more than enough to portray the idea of Robin with out breaking size and age expectations, which actually do play roles in fights, even though they can be overcome.

ark Victory movie will be the fourth Batman movie and it will come out sometime in the next decade.
