Man I remember since The Avengers came out that there was a heated debate among us fans about whither Loki's Scepter was the mind gem or not...and as it turns out, it was all along.

Well a lot of the contraversy was because of the size and people saying that it wouldn't fit Thanos glove, but I like the fact that the gems are encapsulated in a husk of sorts, allowing it to all make sense.

I do think it would be much more rewarding if that were so, but I have a hard time imagining an Avengers movie where the big guns don't come to play. At most I could see Thor and Hulk not showing up until Part II, but I can't think of a reason Stark would sit out if there was real trouble.

Also, I think the movie loses way too much star power if RDJ and others aren't there. Marvel's definitely going to want to max out the potential of Infinity War.

I think you're underestimating the brand there. In this hypothetical scenario, you'd still have Evans, SLJ, ScarJo and Renner, plus Cheadle, Olsen, Mackie, Bettany, Benedict Cumberbatch (!), Spider-Man (!!!), Chadwick Boseman (who will have been established at least in CW by then), possibly introducing Carol (who's gonna have hype of her own), Brolin/Thanos, and potentially players from the Guardians franchise as well. And keep in mind all of those characters will be made BIGGER stars by the movies leading up to this. That's plenty to sell ANY Marvel movie, never mind one that's billed as the first half of The End.

In this hypothetical scenario, you'd still have Evans, SLJ, ScarJo and Renner, plus Cheadle, Olsen, Mackie, Bettany, Benedict Cumberbatch (!), Boseman (who will have been established at least in CW by then), possibly introducing Carol (who's gonna have hype of her own), Brolin/Thanos, and potentially players from the Guardians franchise as well. And keep in mind all of those characters will be made BIGGER stars by the movies leading up to this. That's plenty to sell ANY Marvel movie, never mind one that's billed as the first half of The End.

Very true, and I think I'd be pretty impressed if they make a movie as big and thrilling as the first two without Stark.

There was definitely an "Iron Man and friends" problem in TA, and even in AoU the story is pretty heavily based on Stark. His fear, his mistake, his relationship to Ultron, Ultron and the Twins' hatred for him, etc. Whedon smartly gave others the chance to shine in the finale, but Stark was definitely the most important character this time as well.

Plus, saving him and the other heavyweights for Part II would make it all the more epic. I just hope the reason that the Avengers re-assemble isn't because of Cap's death.

Edit: After re-reading the actors and characters you mentioned, it actually doesn't seem that hard to make up for RDJ's star power Spidey himself is probably enough for that.

By the way saw Age of Ultron this morning and with all the mixed reviews I had been hearing I really didn't know what to expect, but after seeing it I would have to say despite its faults that it was my favorite Marvel movie to date. I think the Winter Soldier is technically Marvel's best movie to date, but despite being able to acknowledge its quality as being a bit higher I still enjoyed AOU a bit more.
For me Marvel has done it again.

Well in the comics they are gems not stones, and the source of the stones in the movies do not follow the comics as from what I can tell. However, like with the comics it is leading up to an event. In the movies they are calling it The Infinity War, but in the comics it is refered to as The Infinity Gauntlet, which is my second favorite story of all time only surpassed by the 1st Secret Wars comic series. Anyways, not sure if this answers your questions, but I hope it helps.

That's one part of this movie that I really loved, Ultron with the twins, and in particular Wanda. That he actually cared about them. That was developed really well.

I did not expect Ultron to put me in the feels, but he did.

The original appearance for the gems collected for Thanos' Gauntlet was a title spanning event in 1991, but had its own series too. The 2 issue prequel (where Thanos collects/steals/tricks his way to the 6 gems) was 'called The Thanos Quest'. The original series itself (6 issues) was 'The Infinity Gauntlet'. Afaik the relationship between all the gems (and just who had them at the time) had not been established before this series.

Counting all the tie in books (many can be skipped tbh) it's over 30 books (I think...didn't read most of them).

Later on there was another one called 'the Infinity Wars', but the first one is to 'go to' one for getting up to speed on the comics version of the Gauntlet.

I completely agree with this.

RDJ's star power is grossly overrated by some people. RDJ has ONE big box office hit outside of the MCU where he's THE big star. Marvel success isn't depending on stars at all. The vast majority of the actors cast in MCU films aren't huge names with a record for being box office draws.

When they were on the train and he was almost pleading with them not to do this....man I felt for him. Than at the end with him and vision talking about humanity, I really wanted him to survive.

Yeah, Vision said he was the last one before discussing humanity with Ultron and then destroying him. Any chance Vision was wrong about him being the last one and Ultron managed to escape? I doubt it, but enjoyed him as a Villain and wouldn't mind seeing him reappear as a villain after The Infinity War Story has run it's course.

You might be on to something. They never showed Vision destroying him, just a bright light & some sound. Didn't Vision say something about being "for life" earlier in the movie? When confronting the final Ultron, Vison specifically mentions he is the last one. Maybe he stores Ultron's consciousness in another dimension via Infinity Stone voodoo?

Is it possible that Ultron could be partially alive in Vision? He did start downloading himself into the body even though he didn't finish.
