Agent Carter Agent Carter General Discussion Thread - Part 1

Are you the first to point this out on here? I caught it on the first watch.. I guess I should feel proud of myself or something. ...nah

It's been pointed out in the episode thread already. It did not go unnoticed.

A lot of people missed him being called Fenoff, which is the more important thing.

BTW, what kind of name is Fenoff? Wikipedia says the good Dr. Faustus is Austrian, but Fenoff sounds like it could almost be a Russian name (a la Romanoff).

Fennhoff sounds germanic to me. Like Hasselhoff.

I never even saw his Nick Fury TV movie. I heard it was terrible but then that was par for the course for Marvel on celluloid in the 1990's and earlier. I doubt it could be worse then the 1990 Cap movie.

Excluding animation, you may be right.
Yea, I think the Flash has some excellent VFX work... some of that Firestorm stuff was simply amazing. IMO, visually, the best "superhero stuff" on TV we're gotten to date. Unfortunately, 90% the writing and 50% of the acting on that show is laughably amateurish. Given a choice between the latter and the former, I'd go with the latter every time.
I do prefer Agent Carter, and the MCU TV shows, to be superhero adjacent. Let's see more cool stories happening in the MCU, with ties to the superheroes, but without the additional baggage of needing a villain who can spar with someone extraordinary. That's what makes AC so fun for me - it's a cracking spy thriller, but with a backdrop of an awesome movie franchise
Co-signed.

I shudder to think of the possibilities if Marvel went the DC route with the mandate that everything is it's own thing because they don't really trust the creative teams of their shows to build up to a cohesive universe. Previously on "Thor: God Of Thunder"...

(Arrrgh! I'm going to have nightmares about this.)
^I'm in complete agreement. The main thing I love about AC & AoS is how they're there to fill in the gaps left by the movies(and presumably the Netflix shows as well...we'll see how they end up being). Of course this works for me because more than any single franchise I'm a fan of the MCU as a thing unto itself, a sprawling wildly divergent universe with lots of breadth and depth and width that we aren't just told about or hinted at it being so but that we actually get to voyage toward different corners and in very different directions as we experience this gigantic, seemingly never ending sandbox that's full of all manner of exciting and weird stuff yet is still pinned down enough in plenty of places that it feels not to dissimilar from how the real world is so it can remain relatable. It's truly a wondrous thing to behold and is so exciting to know that it'll only get bigger as we go on and even more immersive for the viewer.

Meh. It's bad, but not un-enjoyable I would say. Better than Captain America at least.

but...but... GotG itself aknowledged the Hoff

Lol. The budget of that video must have been a whopping hundred bucks at least. :o

We better get more mini-series, this was such a delight.

Maybe they should time jump about a decade per series. Would keep it on it's toes and give us large/crazy villains that spanned the years up to Howard's death... and then Iron Man.

Since they've done post WWII-noir era, I'd love a hippy '60 series with some nods to drugs and such [who would be good villains during this period?]... just skip over the 50's. Then get into the late 70's early 80's Thatcher years with heavy espionage [Hydra infiltration] and some Union Jack action.

What a bad way to end a series that was just getting better....This last episode showed the show's greatest weaknesses: the writing and story...No climax, no real stakes, useless characters, etc. Everything else is good: actors, production design, cinematography, etc. Even the actors, act like they have nothing to say.

What a fantastic episode!! Omg it was great, the surprise villain at the end was fantastic. Marvel must have some plans for the good doctor...

I absolutely adored this series, and hope we get more.

And every single peggy carter fight scene was top notch and fantastic. And dottie is a fantastic proto widow as well as a villain

Marvel's plans for Dr Fenhoff is that he develops brainwashing techniques for Hydra. That has been common knowledge for months.

Do you think we'll get WS popping up at some point in a future AC season?

Obviously not that common. One could easily confirm the start of winter soldiers brain washing as such.. but Fenhoff did quite fine with a ring and persuasive words... rather than a big crazy machine... especially considering Fenhoff is psycologically manipulating via his own psychosis and not technology

Itd be interesting to see him again. Maybe next time with a beard!

"Focus, Sergent Barnes"
Seeing that line now makes perfect sense since we saw Fenhoff use that technique in mind-controlling every person this season and then being in the same cell as Zola. Great callback by the writing staff.

I enjoyed the finale, especially the way the scenes with Peggy trying to talk Howard down while he thought he was going to find Cap, were a nice parallel to the scene at the end of The First Avenger.

The fight between Peggy and Dottie was good and I'm glad she survived as I'd like to see her in season 2 so we get a round 2 between them. :D

The way the show ended with Peggy and Angie now living in one of Stark's homes, Jack being a bit of a prick still and now the SSR boss, and of course the big [BLACKOUT]Arnim Zola[/BLACKOUT] reveal at the end, certainly makes it feel like the show runners are confident of getting a 2nd season.

The shot with Peggy pouring out Steve's blood into the Hudson was a nice way to close out the season for her, but my actual favourite shot of the finale was in Howard's hallucination out in the snow when Peggy showed up holding Cap's shield.

In Agents of SHIELD, it is flat out stated that Fenhoff's techniques in mind control are what Hydra uses to get people to do their bidding. Fenhoff HAD to have lived long enough to work with Hydra to develop these techniques.

I'll rephrase and say that this was common knowledge and not a shock among people who watch Agents of SHIELD.

Mirrors my thoughts pretty spot on. I would have loved to see the fight extended but what we got was pretty awesome.

Thompson stealing the spotlight again fell in line with his character quite well. He knows he doesn't deserve the credit, and so do the rest of the agents. It will be interesting to see where a season 2 goes from there.

We got some nice hints at the romance angle between Sousa and Carter, which was nice. I'm glad they didn't stress a romance for her. She didn't need one, especially with the emphasis on her moving on from Cap.

I loved all of the MCU nods. The parallels between this episode and the first Cap movie were fantastic. Really drove the series home as a semi First Avenger sequel. Loved it.

Zola popping up to recruit Faustus was also rad. It makes sense considering the emphasis HYDRA has on mind control. This could be the beginning.

I really want a season 2, hopefully we get one.

Here is my full review of the season finale for those interested :)

Wow all the feels for this episode. Just wow. loved the parallel between the scene where Peggy talks to Howard about turning the plane around which is almost the same when she was talking to Steve right before his death. :( I cried during that scene because I knew just how much of Steve's death impacted both Peggy's and Howard's lives. It was great to feel the emotions in that scene. Still, the scene from Captain America breaks my heart even more because knowing what both Peggy and Steve went through, they cared a lot for each other. :(

Oh and I didn't expect Armin Zola to show up. Oh man, I hope we get to see a glimpse of the Winter Soldier at some point if there is going to a season 2. So many directions they can take with this show if it gets renewed. so yeah.

REPOST FROM THE OTHER THREAD:

Consider me... underwhelmed by this end.

Anyone else notice that this whole show makes the One-Shot 'Agent Carter' ... NOT WORK. We clearly see by the end of this season she's an integral member of the S.S.R. in the eyes of her peers, yet in the one shot she never is until Howard brings her along to form SHIELD.

It doesn't work. It's completely contradicted what is supposed to be MCU Canon.
