Agent Carter Agent Carter - S01E01 "Now Is Not The End"

I'd like to watch it again,but my initial reactions are fairly positive.

It felt to me very much like Marvel's answer to Wonder Woman (complete with secret identity). A "lowly" secretary making her way through "man's world" post WW II, and all that.

I felt the blatant sexism of the times got a little heavy handed.I mean,they had women in espionage back in those days,did they not? I doubt they would have taken someone with her war record and made her serve coffee rather than exploit her talents to get info by going undercover like she did at the club.

I love the period.Felt like they got it so right.

The action was top notch.I really liked Jarvis and wonder how he'll fit into the future.Was great to see Howard again.Can't wait to see Dum Dum and some of the other HCs.

I liked the use of the Cap clips.Felt very natural to the story.

I can't compare it to AOS.It's it's own thing entirely.But I liked it no less than AOS.
 
Yeah, I really enjoyed that this does seem to stand on its own and it has its own story to tell. It is not just a road map to get to AoS. I have to say that Marvel TV is really interesting right now, loving AoS and Agent Carter, cannot wait to see what they have in store with Daredevil.

You also have alot of history to play with too. I'm sure somewhere we'll see a younger Hank Pym and who knows, a younger SELVIG with him.

Imo it's better than the first episode of AOS maybe even the second episode of AOS I'd say the first episode of AOS to be better than agent Carter was the one where they went up against Graviton

I'm going to get a lot of hate for this but I thought the part where Antman was riding that ant was pretty corny yes i lnow its a signature antman thing but it was a lot of lame imo otherwise it looked good
 
I loved seeing Vanko,though the actor was fairly unimpressive.

I wouldn't expect either any time soon. Hayley said there might be time jumps but I really doubt they're going to jump 20-25 years into the future any time soon. They'd have to smother their gorgeous vibrant lead in aging make-up so we could see a young Hank in the mid to late 1960s.

There's a lot of top notch talent on display here in front of and behind the camera but I can't think of a stronger lead in a comic book TV series - ever. Hayley is brilliant.
 
Do we think that this show will be dealing with Vanko selling the arc reactor tech? I mean...it kind of sits the theme of the show...
 
i didn't watch it yet .. is it just after the marvel's one shot or just before?

They showed clips of the One Shot as Peggy was thinking about old stuff, right? I mean...if the events are in her memory, then they have already happened.

They really just used a couple of action shots from the One Shot probably because they already had them on hand ans wanted to show her remembering kicking ass and not filing and getting coffee.

The One Shot ends with Stark taking her away from SSR to form SHIELD with him so it definitely happens after.
 
Bonus points to Joe Russo for the wonderful directing of the fight scene inter cut with the radio program. Clever and wonderful.
 
That is STUPID.

First of all...the song playing was about getting a man or something like that...and the memory clips all had to do with her interacting with Captain America, the man she wanted. Then...for no freaking reason at all...they showed clips of the Agent Carter One Shot for "generic actions scenes"??? The memory was Cap-centric...so even if this wasn't a continuity blunder, it would still not make any sense in the scene.

Besides...they weren't generic shots...they happened in a specific time frame...and its AFTER this episode occurred. It was stupid that it got to the tv without someone editing them out.
 
I don't exactly know why (because I've never been able to figure out what was missing from it relative to the rest of Joss Whedon's work as a writer), but this episode was hands-down a million times better than AoS's Pilot, and actually got me interested in turning into the show week-to-week. It also did a great job of standing on its own, even with the numerous topical allusions/connections to Captain America: The First Avenger and other aspects of the wider MCU, and provided some very nice setup for the second episode, "Bridge and Tunnel".

I really like the group of characters and actors they've paired Hayley Atwell's Peggy up with, particularly Enver Gjojak's Sousa, Brian D'Arcy's Jarvis, and Lyndsey Fonasca's Angie. It's strange to me to see Chad Michael Murray playing a jack-a** character, but I do like the way that his character has been clearly positioned as Peggy's chief 'foil'.

The 'weak link' for me right now is that ridiculous Captain America radio program, so I'm glad that Peggy kept asking people to turn it off.

Sure there were a couple of moments that I groaned at(like the 2nd time CA:TFA footage was referenced when Peggy was getting the Vita-ray detector out of mothballs, and some of the sexism was a tad heavy handed) but these are minor quibbles in an otherwise very promising premier.

8.5/10 And that's a better score than what I gave for the premier episodes of Arrow, Flash, AoS & Gotham.

Honestly going into this I was a tad worried as AoS didn't start off so hot in 2013 and I didn't want a repeat. Thankfully my fears are now quashed.

Yes...to all of that...I agree. I liked it too. Fell asleep at the tail-end of the second ep though...

I really enjoyed this, makes me wanna watch captain america again. 100 times better than AOS.
 
A stronger open than I imagined it'd be. Very fun and Hayley's just great.

I love how standout the ties are as a period piece. Really nailed the feel on that front, just like the first Cap outing.
 
Can someone explain to me how the one bad guy at Roxxon was blinded by Peggy...then Peggy ended up having to escape in a waiting car and JUST BARELY avoided being killed in the blast...yet, somehow the blinded guy in the hallway managed to get out, even though he couldn't see and wasn't even aware that a bomb was about to go off?

It appears that he lived just because they wanted Peggy to catch him.
