Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. - S02E10 "What they become""

Been registered for a while but first time posting. Just need to say that this episode was perhaps the most enjoyable hour of television I have ever watched. So much fun. Did not realize how much I liked Trip until it was too late.

I am probably completely wrong but just want to throw this out there. How was Trip even in the room? Only those deemed worthy could enter yet there he was. They bring him in and everyone thought, wow he is going to get super powers too. Then they punch us in the gut and have him turn to stone and die. Did Skye's earthquake shatter him or was he cocooned up and when the cocoon breaks he is just invisible. I really need to rewatch the episode. I am 99% sure he is gone but they sure left a little doubt in my mind.

Tripp snuck in before the doors closed, simple as that. I think the doors were to keep the mist contained, and only Inhumans were supposed to be inside. The shattered peice of the diviner is what killed him though. He was never cocooned, he was just turned to stone like any regular person who touched it.

I was certain he was dead as soon as he made it inside the room and the doors closed behind him.

Possibly. Did he ever pick up the Obelisk? I think that's basically the ultimate litmus test. Regardless, we might have had a super powered fight then, as Skye seemed to unleash her powers almost immediately.

That being said, would even Cal survive? I don't recall him touching it either. But being that he's related to Skye, I'm assuming he can. Speaking of Cal, are we sure he's Hyde? He seems a bit squishy to be Hyde.

All we know is that Skye's mom is inhuman, we don't know about Cal yet. He's definitely Mr Hyde as Calvin is the characters name and he has a daughter named Daisy who is a SHIELD agent with earthquake abilities. We just don't know how he got his powers.

**** yeah! Great Episode! :up::up:

This season has been excellent.

I mean, great episode (holy s***! Daisy?! Hyde!?) but really with Tripp? Does no one on this writing team read TVtropes.com?

Wasn't it like the 3rd to last episode that Tripp was shot and we all went "Oh no! They can't kill Tripp!" And we were like, "Nah, they'd never kill the black guy (from the main cast) first!" And sure enough, they didn't...

And wasn't it just last episode that we all thought Mack was a goner and we were all like "Oh no! They can't kill Mack!" And we were all like "Nah, they'd never kill the black guy (from the main cast) first!" And sure enough, they didn't...

So did they really. Threaten. The black guy. In three. Episodes. Straight. And actually kill one first?!!! I mean... I get that (probably?) wasn't their intention, but holy hell, when this season is over do you think they'll look back at this string of episodes and think, 'eesh, yeah... that was poorly handled/paced?"

Otherwise, kudos Marvel :D But seriously, knock it off with that s*** >=/

Sleepy Hollow did the same thing last week.

Right?! It's like, dude we get it, unintentional. But you can't have the black guy dying be your big emotional beat three eps in a row. That's just lazy (and awkward) writing. Otherwise, though, it was un-freaking-believable and I can't wait for March.

I was pretty bummed that Coulson didn't get in the room in time, but now I'm happy because I think he would have been turned to stone as well.
Only reason Tripp was turned to stone was cause he destroyed the Obelisk causing shrapnel to hit him, dont think Coulson would have been so impulsive

I'm glad they gave these characters some tension. They threaten them all, and need to. I didn't want any of the team to die and it seems most SHIELDS audience feel the same, that shows for something. The fact we were all worried during this scene and felt bad for the character after was a good thing. But they shouldn't have to line up the episodes with the idea that multiple characters skin color will be the determining factor on if they will be put in danger. Neither Mac or Trip died in the past episodes so I don't see the issue here. All the characters get ****ed up and suffer, heck most have either been dead or had near death experiences. Or in the worse case scenario end up like Lucy Lawless and Saffron Burrows with little screen time.

Trip is also in another tv show and attached to two films. Dudes busy.

Aren't both Quake and Tigra part of the West-Coast Avengers?

Tigra was but Quake was created long after Avengers West Coast was disassembled. Unless there is a recent version of WCA that I'm unaware of.

Great episode.I really liked the scene between "Cal" (at least we have a name now) and Skye.I guess the semi-reveal of Cal/Daisy would've been a bit more impactful if people didn't have it pegged months ago.

I was sorely disappointed we didn't get to see Cal "Hyde-Out" on Whitehall.I was about as angry with Couson as Cal was.:woot: Liked seeing the two of them go at it.

Kinda have misgivings on Skye firing off 5 shots into Ward.I mean,I get she has no love for the guy,but it seemed a bit cold for someone like her.Ward schmoozing the May-Zartan was pretty cool.Maybe he's graduated to master criminal and will have his own lackey now.

Tripp!Say it ain't so!:wow: I thought it was odd that of all people that could get stuck in that room and witness the "transformation" they chose Tripp and not Phil. But obviously that's the end for him.:csad: Looks like Mack's coming back, but I'd rather have Tripp.:csad:

Show won't be back til March?:wow: At least we'll have Agent Carter.:fhm:

Are we ever going to get past the whole "We can't kill a black guy,it's a trope" thing? Will there ever come a day when we can feel for a character without making reference to his race?

So, has there been any speculation on Raina and No-eyes (inhu)man?

EDIT: people seem to think the Inhuman man is Reader, a recently created inhuman.

Probably when there's a more equal representation on TV. According to the annual Hollywood diversity report, minorities only make up 5% of the lead roles in broadcast television, and women only 24%, making the rest white males even though they represent less than half the population. So...I'm guessing not for a while, lol.

I think they will save the Inhuman Royal family for the movies. Lesser Inhumans can pop up in the show though.
Has the Ward redemption ship sailed?
I think so. Ward is a guy constantly trying to win the loyalty and approval of people like Garrett and Skye.

It would be interesting to see him become his own man.

I think he should go full villain eventually.
Pouring out a little iced tea for my dude Tripp. :(

RIP Tripp :csad:

What's cool about Ward is that after a lifetime of being lost and trying to win the approval of whoever he's obsessed with, he now has someone who is lost and needs him. She's already a competent agent/fighter...but he can turn her into something unstoppable, with him pulling her strings. If they go that route, then he will have made a HUGE step in growth in that one scene.

Raina transformed into
Squirrel Girl! :funny:

More like porcupine girl.
Am I allowed to post a screengrab of Raina's eye from the episode? Then people could see better what Raina's eye and the surrounding area of her skin look like. Couldn't find it in the rules.

The pictures have been posted, around page 15. Here you go:

What an episode. Really terrific stuff. The MCU is kicking so much ass right now, its unreal. What a time to be a fan

I haven't read all the pages in this thread since I went to bed last night, so some of this speculation might have been said already.

Anyway, what a great ep last night. So many big pay offs, and lots of new set up.

I don't think we've seen the last of Whitehall. Maybe we did, but maybe someone loyal to him rescued him and put him in some life-sustaining armor. Is that too similar to Garrett's situation? If Whitehall IS done for, do you guys think we're done with HYDRA on the show for a little while? And the rest of the season will focus more on inhumans than battling HYDRA, since Coulson's new shield only seemed to be in direct conflict with this particular hydra cell?

Ward and Agent 33 are obviously teaming up or working together, at least for a bit. What will be Ward's agenda now? Skye/Daisy probably thinks he bled out, so it will be a shock when he comes back. I toyed with the idea that he would take over the HYDRA cell now that Whitehall is potentially gone, but he's been insisting all along that he's no loyalist. (On the other hand.... if Whitehall is rescued by some Garrett-like armor, maybe it's because Ward had knowledge of Project Deathlok, and he shared that knowledge with this hydra cell to create Kraken armor based on the deathlok technology...?) Or is that too far a stretch??

I strongly believe we haven't seen the last of Cal/Hyde. I know that AoS doesn't really do this sort of thing, but I'd love to see an episode, or even a sequence, from his point of view. We follow him to his office where he is giving himself some sort of treatment, maybe mumbling that there's no reason to hold back the dosage now that he has nothing to lose, and he goes full-on Hyde (maybe he even has stacks of the book laying around, showing that he's clearly obsessed with that story of a normal man unlocking his "potential"). Either way, I want to see at least a bit more of him. There is a lot that can be done there (especially now that his beef with Coulson has been turned up a notch!).

As for Raina, i think it's still pretty vague as to who she might be, if she is even a character from the comics. She doesn't look very snake-like, but I was thinking about how Hyde partners with Cobra in the comics and considered that she could be some version of that character (but there are probably lots of more likely options... the thought just crossed my mind).

Tripp... we'll miss you. :(

And of course, I can't wait to watch the "Quake" story unfold, now that they've finally released the slow-build pay-off! The second half of the season is going to be awesome. Inhumans, rogue Ward and 33, whatever Raina is, Hyde out there somewhere, not to mention new threats, an Ultron tie-in, and who knows what else (Graviton return eventually?).

It's a good time to be a fan. Bring on Agent Carter!
