The alien virus angle was cool...but I was still hoping for a Zzzax interpretation.

The again...couldn't this virus eventually evolve into Zzzax? Or maybe even SHIELD's Sandbox scientist's tinkering with it could create Zzzax?

Everything just seemed to point towards that obscure monster too perfectly to not utilize it. The electric nature of it. The targeting of the brain. It's ZZZAX!

Zzzax has taken host bodies before. Maybe Blake will put on the helmet and turn himself into Zzzax somehow.

Proof last night's episode was great: Tumblr finally had a screaming meltdown over AOS. Between the crying over FitzSimmons & Coulson and the raging over Agent Blake actually touching Lola, the fandom is in an uproar. That, to me, shows that AOS is making real progress with its characters. Fans don't get that upset unless and until they care about the characters, and now they do.

so this was by far the best episode yet. Probably because it was the least Ward/Skye focused.

I was about to write it off too. I'll give it a few more episodes now.

hey leave that glorified hypnotist out of this

I thin this episode was mean to tie in with thor 2 [BLACKOUT]given in the film jane foster is seen hovering in an anti gravity field[/BLACKOUT]

There's no connection there, she was floating cuz of Malekith's magic. The bodies floated because the electrostatic pulse changed their density or something like that. The Thor tie in is on the 19th.

This ep was pretty good, the best so far IMO. although I think I would have appreciated it more if they had the balls to kill off Simmons.

That reference to Typhoid Mary obviously means Daredevil is around in the MCU.

Just so you know.....the term Typhoid Mary has been used since the very early 1900's by doctors and scientists to reference someone who has a disease that they spread to others but don't suffer from themselves.

... I guess I actually have to use the sarcasm smiley everytime I'm being sarcastic. I thought The whole "Grant Ward is Frank Castle" thing made it obvious.

Cue the fan videos set to "gravity."

Pushing Skye and Ward into the background for once was what the show desperately needed. Why the writers have chosen to heavily feature the two weakest actors in the cast for five weeks is beyond me. Gregg and Wen are powerhouses, of course, but Henstridge and de Caestecker are also very good. A lot of the reactions I've seen include, "Thank g-d it wasn't all about Skye for once!" which would tell the producers something if they actually cared what viewers want.

This episode had both some of the best and some of the worst moments of the show so far for me.

6/10

6/10

There's nothing great about show. It as so far been just an average and disappointing show. Meh.

What were the worst? (and best)

Worst: Ward's parachute rescue looked incredibly silly. The whole deal with the Chitarui virus, and the effects of it, felt stupid. Some of the dialogue and delivery (Big Lebowski reference, "don't call me Iron Man" etc.) made me cringe really hard.

Best: Coulson comforting the soon-to-be-dead fireman. The drama and tension sourrounding Fitz and Simmons. That the show made me feel something in the heart for the first time.

Still average, straddling lame all too often and feeling way too small, even for a TV show.

I didn't think Ward's parachute stunt looked bad at all, except the close ups on his face.

Give up on the comic book canon references. They're still too chicken**** to dip into Marvel Comics for inspiration, and prefer to make imitation generic versions of characters you kinda sorta vaguely recognize.

This was a great episode in terms of writing....great drama, tension, emotion. Probably the best yet. But there's absolutely no reason that same short story couldn't have been told with a canonical character like Zzzax. Getting tired of this quasi-MCU that is quick to reference the movies, but still too scared to reference the comics.

To be fair, the Chitauri have comic origins as well. They're also arguably more well known than Zzzax.

It's not a fear issue, it's a "Do we let Jeph Loeb run roughshod over future movie properties" and the correct answer is no.

Regardless, this episode turned the show around for me too. I like FitzSimmons now, and I have some respect for the rebooted Coulson now. I still don't like a ton of the concepts in the show, but at least they're doing it well now.

err..we got Fury and Hill, Graviton...we will get Sitwell and Victoria Hand in the next two episodes.. that's five comic book characters in just 8 episodes. how many comic book characters (main casts not included) showed up in Smallville or Arrow in the first 8 episodes?
You have to built up the world a bit before you introduce more far out concepts and the colourfull costumes

You could really even throw the Chitauri in (their presence was certainly felt even though a live Chitauri didn't show up), as well as the alternative takes on Mike Peterson & Scorch.

Damn good episode. Series has really come along in quality since the first few. Seems to be a pattern in Whedon's shows. Except for Firefly they all take a while to find their feet and start getting good.

You guys were right, this episode was really good. Huge improvement over Girl in the Flower Dress which I found really underwhelming.

Also, please don't pout because your villainous pet theory didn't work out. Yeesh.
