I've been digging this show, particularly since it has an Avengers vibe (I'm assuming that's the Wheadon influence). I really don't get all the complaining and low ratings...

People seem to forget that this is a tv show and not a movie. They expect this to be more Avengers-like which is stupid.

I have a friend who quit watching this because it bores him. Why?

Because he expected more villains to show up from the comics and more heroes to be introduced. I tried to explain that the show never claimed to be about that.

Oh well, I'll gladly take my awesome spy show set in the Marvel universe.

Peter MacNicol was one of the only few good parts of Ghostbusters 2. I liked him in Numbers though....and the first Mr. Bean movie.

I know I had no illusion that super heroes would pop up. This show is what I thought it would be. In fact, there are more references than I thought we'd get. In fact, it's better than I thought because of the banter.

Great episode.
One of the best written and directed so far. Frakes might have something to do with that, I dunno.

I may have missed it...was the fact they were searching for Asgardian artifacts right after the events of Thor 2 just a coincidence? I'll be watching it over again, but I never caught why exactly these punk kids suddenly had such insight into find the Berserker Staff.

Oh, and anyone think those punks were like the Hydra equivalent of Neo-Nazis? I don't know, just a thought, seeing as the similarities between that group and Neo-Nazis was obvious, and considering the MCU uses Hydra as a stand-in for Nazis, it made me wonder if there was some relation there.

The Norse neo-pagans are actually somewhat based in reality. There *are* some, I guess you'd call 'em nativist, Scandinavians who are literally resurrecting worship of Viking (and other Scandinavian) gods and basically waging war against Christianity. It can get pretty ugly and violent at times, particularly in the death metal community, where a lot of those guys have been burning down Christian churches (some of them national treasures that are centuries old).

I was glad to see that aspect of Thor and the Asgardians being developed in this show.....they did more to address it in just a few minutes of this episode than either Thor movie or the Avengers did, ever. But it's an important point, regarding the nature of the divine and worship, and exploring how some people react to the literally earth-shaking news that the pagans were right all along --- there *are* other gods out there.

Thor had to know that Coulson is still alive.

I'm going to be totally misogynistic right now and say that [BLACKOUT]If May is Skye's mom, I hope Ward hooks up with them both[/BLACKOUT]. Let the flaming commence!

YEOWZA! I never thought of that.

I'm just glad there was more to Ward's trauma then his brother fell down a well somehow. I was cringing until I saw it was orchestrated by a *****ebag kid.

May is getting more and more interesting as the season progresses. That's a great thing. Ward is still dull as dirt. That's a bad thing. Having the episode close with a possible screw session between the two? Intriguing!

The big flaw of this episode was...

Why did the Asgardian send Coulson and his team to the right spot if he wanted to reclaim or rehide the piece of the staff? He could have sent them anywhere on earth. That makes no sense.

But he didn't send them to the right spot. He gave them an incredibly vague description of where it was that could have been any place in the world and probably assumed that he could get there and retrieve it before they figured it out, if they ever figured it out at all. Heck, you'll even notice that he tells them to try looking in Canada, which is a good three thousand miles away from Spain.

He didn't; Coulson and crew figured it out themselves on board The Bus.

I really liked the Asgardian Professor, he's one of the best guest stars that the show's has so far. I really like that actor in everything that he appears in. Ward gets to bang Mulan, lucky guy,

I really enjoyed this episode and the Ward/May twist at the end. Can't wait to learn more about May.

I also kind of love how that Dollhouse reference was used - like an added "clue" that this scene was a big lie.

I'm thinking May is Skye's mom.

"I see it every day." She sees Skye every day? Skye is half asian? Maybe it's my buddy Jack Daniels talking but sometimes he is right.

I doubt May is Skye's mom. Why would she do Skye's love interest then?

I noticed that! I love it when Easter Eggs serve a purpose. Maybe there's implanted memories or something. It's so intriguing!

I didn't watch Dollhouse when it aired. Can someone tell me the reference please? :D

take your minds of the gutter guys, maybe Ward feels like May needs someone to talk to since they both experienced the same thing by holding the asgardian staff.

They just referenced a catch phrase. "Did I fall asleep?" "For a little while" was a thing that was said on the show a lot.

The show is called "Agents of SHIELD", not "Marvel Superheroes" or somesuch.

It wasn't just "said a lot on the show," though - it was the standard prompt and response protocol whenever a "doll" got their mind wiped.

Yeah, but I wanted to keep the explanation simple for someone who never saw the show and doesn't have a point of reference.

I gotcha; I just wanted to elaborate on why I said it felt like an "added clue" that the scene was a big lie.

I know the rating are "low" or whatever but do those ratings take in the fact of those who DVR or later on On Demand type stuff? Cause wasn't the first episodes rating like 12 mil live then like 20 mil total? Either way those who bounced are missing out, I think this show is getting better all around week by week.
