Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Spin-Off Show In The Works

I don't think this has been mentioned yet but how about MI13? Fury Mentioned going to Europe. I'd guess Fury went looking for a Hydra free back up organisation. Why can't it be MI13? Maybe Hunter has some local agent friends, one of them being Peter Wisdom. ;)

Regardless of the show's concept, I doubt it'll have the word "Avengers" in the title.

Agents of SHIELD initially gave us a bunch of non-comics characters facing off with characters who also weren't from the comics. They seem to have kinda sorta learned their lesson (it baffles me that they couldn't find any other Z-grade villains other than Angar to use, and not a single Inhuman originating from the comics is low enough to put on the show apparently), so hopefully the new show will be populated with characters from the outset that make it feel important.

You mean like Blizzard, Graviton, Blackout, Mr. Hyde, Absorbing Man, Lorelei...???

Also, I have a bad feeling they go the NCIS/CSI route and just do a AoS: Detroit spin off

I saw somebody elsewhere suggest that it could be a version of Avengers Academy

I think that would be great. I don't remember who brought it up, but someone mentioned that with the mysterious "Theta Protocol" (and the 100 bunkbeds, or whatever), this could have been an ongoing secret mission of Coulson's.

I was talking specifically about Cal's group of misfits (though that chick with the blades on her fingers is based on a comic character...so I did forget about her...and that is because she was an absolutely idiotic character and it is absurd to think that SHIELD wouldn't just remove the blades). I could have been clearer that I was talking about that particular episode. There is ZERO reason to invent characters for a group of super-powered losers when comic history is littered with what Wizard magazine called "Morts of the Month."

So, let's see... for one-off characters, the creators could either create original characters from scratch, tailored to their story and production needs. Or... they could do hours of research to find an obscure, Z-grade comic book villain that sort of fits what they need but not quite, that the average viewer does not recognise and that the internet will yell and complain about the stuff that they got wrong about said obscure, one-off character.

Personally, I'd go with Option A.

I don't know...there seemed to be an "OMG! LANCE HUNTER IS COMING TO AOS!!!" when very, very few people ever read a book with him in it. The audience just appreciates when a character is based on someone from the comics, even when it is very different from the source character.

And that's natural. We want to see real life representations of things we saw in the comics...AND there is a natural sense that things "matter" more on tv when there is a chance that it will impact the movies. That's why Mockingbird got such a heroes welcome (granted, she is an important character in the comics...but still).

or marvel could show case their z list characters on screen, ones they own already, get people giving them free publicity on the internet by talking about it, hook new people to the comics.

I seem to recall Hunter and Mockingbird being around for more than one episode though...

But it's not "Marvel Comics" (whatever that means) making the show. It's Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. Even if it was the former, at the end of the day, it's still going to be a person; who can't possibly know every minutiae of the Marvel Universe and would still have to research the rest. And especially with the latter, that also involves checking who owns what rights to which characters, etc. Meaning for one off characters and especially at the early stages of the show, that meant taking pre-existing characters (particularly those not from the MCU) a bit more challenging; legally.

And even though Graviton has only been in one episode...and not even as Graviton...people are STILL talking about him and waiting for his return. No one is waiting for that agent with one eye to return...the whole SHIELD/Hydra and Nu-SHIELD things went down and she's not even worth mentioning.

People care more about names they can research and think might have a greater impact beyond one episode.

After this weeks episode and Colby's interview on Jimmy Kimmel, I would be really surprised if the show wasn't "Project Theta" or "Avengers Academy"

Colby would star as Hill who is running the Academy. Bobbi would also join as a main character along with Deathlok. The rest of the cast would be new characters. Most episodes have a different set of recurring characters while the other three are the only main cast members.

They could bring in a wider audience with a few things.
1) Super powers. This will draw in all sorts of people.
2) Younger characters. Hell introduce some of the Avengers Academy kids from the comics, the Runaways, The Young Avengers...this will bring in a younger audience as well. Cover the spectrum.
3) Have Skye and Lincoln (if he doesn't turn on Skye) leave Shield at the end of this season to go join the Academy however Skye leaves after a few episodes but Lincoln stays. It would be a shock but would get people who watch Shield to watch this and have new characters grown on them and stay watching after Skye leaves.
4) this could be ways to do stand alone episodes in the Academy of lesser known heroes and villains.
5) Bring in the Defenders and Shield for a crossover event during Civil War. Have it start on Shield, then Coulson makes a phone call and the defenders (pre-team up) all meet up with Shield and the Academy team. At the end they can be all "maybe we can do this again sometime" and then that can lead into their inevitable reteam up in The Defenders series.

Like the idea of Avengers Academy. Have May run it. She knows better than anyone what happens to people that misuse their powers.

In a way I hope it is an Avengers Academy too. I just hope they don't get rid of Carter

They might move Carter to Netflix.

I doubt it. I can't see Netflix greenlighting more MCU series before the current run is over. They may more ahead with DD: Season 2, but adding a Agent Carter wouldn't add up.

I can only see two scenarios playing out:

1. AoS Season 3 with AC sandwiched in-between the first and second half and a spin-off show on a separate night.

2. The spin off replaces AC as the mid-season filler.

I'd hate for this spinoff to replace Agent Carter, and honestly, I don't think it's very likely that they'll have it just as a mid season filler.

And I'll join the crowd wishing that this will be Avengers Acadmy.

I am not in favor of Avengers Academy. It sounds campy, cheesy and over the top. I want dark and gritty, like Daredevil!

You won't get a Dark and Gritty marvel show on ABC. They won't a broader audience. They wants super powers to bring that in.

It's just been reported that Agent Carter has a 75% chance of renewal. I believe it will in fact be Agents of Shield on Tuesdays at 9, Agents of Spin-Off a different night at 8 and then Agent Carter mid season when both shows are on break.

Not sure if you're being serious here, Bub....

I think it might end up being a show just for Mockingbird.

I doubt it's another spy show. I expect it's Coulson's superhero collection aka Avengers Academy.

Won't happen, least not on ABC.

Which is fine with me, superheroes work fine in a variety of flavors. I was quite pleased to note that I still enjoyed AoS even after a weekend spent watching Daredevil.
