Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents Of SHIELD - Episode2.19 - The Dirty Half Dozen

I have postulated this before: The new spin-off to feature Bobbi and Hunter with Kara and Ward. I would now add on Mac. This makes sense to me. First, Kara is in love with Ward and will probably feel indebted to Ward for helping her recover from Whitehall's abuse. I could see her confronting Coulson after nuShield's end to bring Ward back in the fold. From this Simmons' actions could come to light.

Then the new series will start with 4 of the five having to learn to forgive the others (Bobbi, Hunter, Ward and Mac). All of them learning to grow as people; especially Ward. I could see Hunter being a good counselor for Ward, teaching Ward that bad things happen to everybody. This combination just makes too much sense to me. Especially since it has already been said that the new show will feature Bobbi and Hunter.

I don't see Ward jumping to a new show, his story is too connected with the other original mains for the character not to suffer with such a move. Yes, it does seem like his character has been written into a corner now, but all that will apparently change by the time the season comes to a closure, as hinted by the TV Guide Magazine article. Also, they've dropped too many hints of his family in the first season for me NOT to believe it'll be important down the line, and they've barely scrapped the surface so far. Thomas has yet to be introduced (officially at least, I still hold on my belief that Lincoln is Thomas, but by now it seems to me to be something that they'd want to leave for the finale to reveal as it may lead to the end of all the ambiguity regarding Ward's character this season), there's a sister out there that was randomly added to his family that we know nothing about except that she exists and I still hold on the hope that Christian will be revealed to be alive if only because his death was massively stupid: he knows his brother tried to kill him before, knows that he a skilled soldier and is completely unconcerned about his own security? Seriously?

Another bit of speculation. Does Gonzales have diviners on his ship. There is something very special in his cargo hold and Fury did not want Hydra to get their hands on it. Would make sense if it was diviners and that Gonzales needs enhanced people to activate them. Might have something to do with his wife.

Just throwing that out to see what sticks.

Great tie in, though I would have preferred a snippet of the Avengers assaulting the base instead of a completely unrelated clip and a tv spot that spoils a lot of the 360 tracking sequence of the finale. Didn't really need to see that.

Loved Coulson's mic drop. Skye had a great action sequence and I'm glad to see the other science bros have basically gotten past their differences and very much still care about each other (yeah yeah, I know, we already knew this since the box switch out, but it's just really nice to see them working together again in general).

RIP the Bus and Simmon's "no murder streak".

Besides Skye's action scene, that was probably one of the best moments in the episode. Seeing him get played like that by Coulson was just total joy in that it showed off Coulson's credibility as the SHIELD Director and how petty Gonzalez has been. Plus, showing off Maria Hill contacting Phil was like adding further insult to injury for Gonzalez.

In charge of Shield? You're not even in the loop. Now play nice, daddies got some work to do.

That could be.

Fun fact:
She and Matt Murdock grew up in the same orphanage (St. Agnes). What must that place be feeding those kids? I half expect to here Skye talk about her friend from the orphanage "Shang-Chi" in the future.

I'm still trying to figure out where solid/verified information on this came from (if it even exists....so maybe someone here can help...)
The *only* time St. Agnes is mentioned by name in Daredevil is in reference to a daycare or some type of school program (that Matt & Foggy are trying to get a client's kid into). The Orphanage that Matt ended up at, as far as I can tell, is *never* stated by name nor is a name seen on screen. I doubt New York is the only place in the country with a St. Agnes location (heck, type it into google maps and you've got St. Agnes academies in Nebraska and Tennessee, schools in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, hospitals in various states, cathedrals, etc...)
All I'm saying, unless I'm missing something somewhere (an interview perhaps?), I don't know if I would take that as a '100%-for-sure' connection

Silvermoon, you are correct. It is not the same place.
Matt's orphanage was never named.

It's funny, whenever I ask for someone to tell me the episode and minute mark that gives 100% proof of this "connection", they never respond.

EDIT: These are potential Daredevil spoilers.

Just watched the episode. Easily the best of the season, by far. As others have said, the fight scene with Skye was a stand out.

However, Skye's mom on the other hand is proving to be a right b---- and only looking out on her own. It's interesting how Jiaying, Gonzales and Coulson are opposites to one another; reflecting different types of leaders. Coulson - secretive but never accepting defeat and willing to do what needs to be done for the greater good. Gonzales - democratic but consequently mainly looking out for his own. Jiaying - secretive and mainly looking out for her own. In a way, she's sort of the middle ground between the two while arguably having the worst traits of Gonzales and Coulson.

Although subtle, I wonder if they are building up a clash between Jiaying and Raina; with the latter making a bid for leadership of (at least some of) the Inhumans.

Now, for my other thoughts:

- The Bus: RIP. You will be missed.

- Bakshi: RIP. You will be less missed but getting betrayed by the good guys while being "loyal" to them? Crappy way to go.

- Simmons: You are one cold blooded lady. You do realise that you've essentially stooped to Ward's level, right?

Personally, I think it's interesting how characters consistently underestimate Simmons. She's come a long way from the always-in-the-lab scientist with no tradecraft she started out as. She's definitely one of the cleverer members of the team and if I'm not mistaken, one that Coulson seems to ever so slightly trust more with his secrets.

Separate post as this may contain spoilers for AoU.

For those thinking that "Theta Protocol" was Coulson calling in the Avengers, I don't think it's quite correct. Based on the movie, my guess is that Theta Protocol is:

The New Avengers

Incidentally, I wonder if it has anything to do with Morse and Hunter's new spin-off.

Oh I see.

BTW, I appreciate the last post that announced it, but could people clarify whether they're talking about Daredevil spoilers or AoU spoilers when posting spoiler tags? I can avoid one but not the other and it's good to know which.

Haha that's a good point! I'll go back and edit mine so it's clear.

Another bit of speculation... Is Gonzales gonna turn too? I dunno but he almost looked disappointed at the end when Hill's call came in. Like his dream of being SHIELD director just went up in smoke!

Seems like he'll push his anti-enhanced people agenda even harder, which'll lead to a conflict with the Afterlife Inhumans.

That's what I thought too.

if he is on the level he believes he is rebuilding shield from the ashes and he is challenging through action furry's philosophy, if on the level. furry being alive could effect him in two ways, he could go 'oh right, what is our orders furry' or he could say ' more lies, furry is the past the shield we are building is bigger than one man' or he is hydra and do something hydraish. hope he isn't hydra. Bar when he is looking at skye like a nazi would a none white european, he comes across as an interesting character.

Coulson said something to to hill about not expecting to win the swing vote if he told nushield the truth about the mission. May was the swing vote. Did he mean that in general or was he being specific and he knew mays allegiances where shifting. Wild guess given nushield have been tracking coulson trying to find out what theta protocals means, what if its a long term plan to take over nushield merge the two and put furry back in charge.
bunk beds could be for the helicarrier in aou. but also get avengers academy guesses given what mac and gonlazes said about coulson collecting powered people in previous episodes and end of the movie.

In terms of Shield hierarchy, did Maria Hill initially have a higher rank than Coulson or Gonzales? It seems to me that Gonzales just realized that Shield went into the shadows with Coulson as the visual point man. That being said, with both Fury and Hill being connected to Coulson, I think Gonzales has to realize that Coulson is a lot more connected than Gonzales original believed.

Another thought that popped into my mind, with Coulson dropping Fury's name and showing that he had a call from Hill; Gonzales has to realize that by trying to take over Shield he has set himself up against Fury and Stark. I think he knows that is a fight that he is destined to lose.

Yes. I think Coulson and Gonzales had the same rank (along with Sitwell and Blake) at Level 8. Maria Hill, however, was Deputy Director of SHIELD (Level 9) so she was above both of them.

Gonzales is apparently a Commander, though that could just mean the fact he runs the Iliad. Or it could reflect his status within Real SHIELD.

The scene when Ward is briefing the team on the mission was hilarious to me especially Simmons line about how Sky should have aimed for the face when she shot him. Lol
lol yeah that was great wasn't it? Welcome aboard!!!

In the one shot The Consultant. Sitwell has level 6. Coulson has level 7. Sitwell wasn't aware there was a level 7. I'm guessing Hill 8 and Fury 9?

If I remember correctly (though admit I could be wrong), Coulson has been bumped up to a Level 8 by the pilot of AoS (getting killed in the line of duty will probably do that). I'd say Hill is a 9, Fury is a Level 10/Alpha Level

Given Coulson's rank as Director (even if Gonzales and Real SHIELD say otherwise), I'd say he's Alpha Level now.

Take it that you needed Alpha level to open the box. Unless you're Fitz.
