Comics All Others Will Fail Compared to MJ

Do you think they can replace MJ in the long run?

  • NO! MJ is his wife and soul mate. Period.

  • Sure. They replaced Gwen didn't they?

Forget any and all logic pertaining to the comic book universe....

The reason MJ will never be able to be replaced is because EVERY SINGLE READER who read OMD(and you at least have to know the jist of it to understand why things are so ****ed up) knows...KNOWS MJ and Peter are meant to be together. Mephistio said it himself. There will be a part of them that will ALWAYS remember.

So they are not only asking the readers to accept a new continuity, but they are asking readers to literally forget what they JUST READ, in order to accept any new relationships, or storylines. The ONLY way this ret con could be of any sort of interest is the journey of how they get back together, which of course, would negate the entire thing in the first place.

Good post.

That's been one of my main problems with what's going on. I can't help but feel like this is all some "alternate" reality Spider-man.

^me too. No matter who writes it and draws and no matter how much I like them....it "feels" like a whole new series, like an Ultimate-Ultimate-Spider-Man.

And since his history and continuity actually IS "alternate"...Spidey comes off as alternate.

I think I said in another thread that if feels not only like an alternate universe spidey, but a spidey that has gone back in time 10 years or so. I mean, Harry and Flash, crappy job, living at home....it just seems like he's back in college times.

Like Ultimate Spiderman 1.5

Yeh...and since he had progressed and already gone thru THOSE times...it makes Pete feel EXTRA needy this time around...kinda hobo-like.
Yeh yeh, Pete is jobless, never been married, is shacking up with aunt may again eating wheatcakes....rah rah! And he is coming off dealing witht he devil and kicking his marriage to the curb as well as the entire planet's minds. So, PEte just comes off as a total loser/HOBO now.

And..Looping a person thru the same problems after already progressing thru them, and putting them back at the start of the monopoly board again...is rather asinine.

And if THIS retcon doesn't work...maybe they'll take Pete back farther with more magic...and bring back more dead people...and just regress him farther...i mean, they've already opened a giant can of worms with this...negated JMS's run and 20 years of others too....and without the marriage to blame, what's to say they won't regress it more and more each time they want to kick the series (And the fans) in the butt again??

Do these alternate stories or anything matter now that they''ve shown their hand, that they'll WIPE AWAY anything, at any point, if Joe wants.

"The events STILL happened just a few magical tweaks here and there" defense fails for one simple reason: The bunch of continuities created within the Marvel Universe whenever there is a choice with different answers; one continuity for each possible outcome (What If? Issues). So Post-OMD Spidey should not be 616 Spidey...

Ok... Picture an empty room with two doors. Each door is at opposite ends. One represents a YES the other a NO... Open up a door, and now you get into another room similar to the first... If you try to redo this maze swapping the door chosen in JUST ONE room, you will not get at the same place as the first time... (By going into the first room, you'd create a lot of continuities that vary from each other by the doors chosesn) If I'm not mistaken that is the same way that multiple realities/ time travelling works (worked) on Marvel...

now back on the replacing MJ... NO ONE WILL REPLACE HER!!! for one simple reason... Joey says Married Spidey= BAD! None of the "replacements" will marry Peter because Joey says: Married Spidey=BAD! Thus cementing MJ's place as: The one who married Spidey. That can't be erased from our continuity...

The others are simply "empty relationship fodder" because we know, that they won't get farther than a few dates and maybe a little sex, but beyond that? nothing... since MARRIED SPIDEY=BAD! SPIDEY IS A DADDY=WORSE!! Peter can have all the unprotected sex he wants because, he'll have no responsibilities thanks to el Queso Grande... All this irresponsibility on a comic book based on the theme:"With great power comes great responsibility" baffles me almost as much as a Company called Marvel Toys that does not make toys based on Marvel characters...

Wow. What a terrible list.

Well, the only thing I really have a problem with is the number 1 couple.

Marvel's top ten couples:

http://www.marvel.com/news/comicstories.2581.Take_10~colon~_Marvel's_Finest_Couples

Pete/MJ=6
Pete/Gwen=5(the highlight here involves Gwen/Norman babies)
Number 1 couple - Colossus and Kitty

My thoughts: ******ed monkeys couldn't have made a worse listing by throwing their feces at a wall.

Actually, there's no mention of [blackout]Sins Past[/blackout] in the Peter/Gwen section. However, I do agree that their ordering is something to be desired. They could have easily switched Peter/MJ and Peter/Gwen around and put Colossus/Kitty Pryde below Peter/Gwen and above Cyclops/Emma Frost. That way at least Peter's relationship with MJ and Gwen are at least in the top five where they belong.

At least there's some good news: Peter/Black Cat didn't even make the list (take THAT Felicia Hardy fans!). And even better, neither did the couple that Marvel hyped as beginning the "Prince Charles and Diana" of the Marvel Universe and having the wedding of the Century--Black Panther and Storm. :oldrazz:

No direct mention, but the going to europe to regroup part....well we all know how that turned out...

Just a few of the top of my head that should have been given a showing:

titania/absorbing man (actually a nice story, they had a comic wedding, and they've always been rather devoted).

Captian Mar-vel/Ms. Marvel. kinda a gimme here

BB/Medusa.

Wolverine/Jean Grey

Ben/Alicia.

Sentry and himself.

I can see Kitty & Colossus making that list... and if it was 25 years ago, I can see the #1 status...

But it's been so long...

:csad:

And I would have put Ben Grimm & Alicia Masters in the top five...

I wouldn't have minded seeing Ben and Alicia on there, but overall that was a terrible list. Kitty and Piotr shouldn't even be on there, much less take the prime spot. The top three spots should have gone to Pete/MJ, Reed/Sue, and Scott/Jean. Normally, I'd say the #1 position would go to Peter and MJ, but in this case Reed and Sue should have it since they're the only couple who are actually STILL TOGETHER. :oldrazz:

i was gonna say the same thing, but i'd put MJ and Pete in the top spot over Sue and Reed, because in my personal universe they are still together lol

I disagree with the # 1 spot on that list... I still think it should've been Reed and Sue on the fisrt spot, Cyke and Jean on #2, THEN Peter and MJ... BTW I thought that the lowlight on the Peter Parker/MJ Watson life as a couple was when the EiC at Marvel decided to tear down the marriage with *gasp* Magic... (Like we haven't seen a massive retcon by magic before *cough* Wanda! *cough*)

What kind of bull*hit list is that?

Gwen and Peter over MJ/Peter? Yea, Ok....:whatever:

Kitty and Colossus number 1? I'm sorry but, that relationship always seemed a bit sick to me.

it's interesting reading the comments on it at marvels website, a lot of people think Gambit and Rogue should have been #1

Number 1? No.

Gambit and Rogue are definitely my second favorite couple behind Peter/MJ but, even then, I understand that there have been couples that have had a bigger influence on the Marvel Universe. They still should have made the list though, just not at number 1. I think that Peter/MJ or Reed/Sue should have been number 1. Like I mentioned earlier, the Kitty/Colossus relationships seems weird to me. I mean, wasn't she like underage or something when it started? Whatever, they are definitely not number 1 in my book.

Yep, but they glossed over that fact. Just like they carefully removed all trace of the "psychic affair" from the rather edited account of how Scott and Emma became a couple. Marvel: Supporters of Pedophilia and Adultery! :wow:

(Hey, Disney got away with promoting incest in "The Lion King." Between 616 Piotr/Kitty and Ultimate Pietro/Wanda, I'd say Marvel is doing their best to compete for the most socially unacceptable couples out there. :oldrazz:)

The way a pride of lions works is that there's a single male who breeds with the females (Scar wouldn't have been allowed to stay around in a real-life pride). Simba and Nala were almost the same age (I believe Nala was slightly older, but not by much), so they are both the offspring of Mufasa through different mothers. Nala is Simba's half-sister. :woot:

Yes, they can replace MJ. All you need are the correct ingredients. Can they replace MJ RIGHT NOW? No. Right now it's too soon. Too many Spider-Man fans are acting like Marvel pissed in their cornflakes to do that. I mean most people around here had a nerd seizure over Peter kissing another woman on the first page of Brand New Day. He's NOT married to MJ...it's not cheating people. No matter how much you want it to be, sigh.

In time...yes, she can be replaced. The right writer and the right storyline. The right character. It can be done. Suddenly it'll be all about that girl and people will remember MJ but this other girl will be a better fit for Peter Parker.

Do I really think that will happen? No. I think what is going to happen is that Pete and MJ are still going to find each other despite the devil's little hypnotizing spell. And if not...oh well...as long as Brand New Day is being written like the first part it's going to be fantastic.

LOL!!!! Some of the best comments I've heard on the BND scenario.

Why replace her? The idea behind getting rid of her appears to be that Spidey is more interesting single. So, replace her with what? He had a good and happy marriage to a gorgeous woman who loved him deeply...what are you going to replace and why?

Perhaps with a marriage full of love like the one with MJ, and with all the freedom and adventure of a single Pete...

Prepare for The Amazing & Swinger Spiderman!
