I see the quote from Snyder about "Stupid rumors" was posted. The LA Times article it came from has some other interesting tidbits as well, especially from Affleck on the success or failure of DC movies:

I wonder sometimes how many people understand that Superman is intended to a Christ Figure or Christ Symbol, not Christ Himself. The parallells exist in the sense that he is a savior character, not intended to be compared to Jesus himself. It's of literary significance, and it's found all over the place in literature. This is just one more instance of that.

I'm an atheist who had trouble with it, but not because I have trouble with Superman being a Christ-like figure. I don't mind religious allegories and symbolism at all. In fact, I like a lot of films with such symbolism (Oh Brother Where Art Thou is one of my all-time favorite films, for example).

I think my problem with it in MoS is that the movie-going audience shouldn't need to have the symbolism bashed over our heads with an anvil, which is basically what the church scene and the space-floating were... anvils. There's "Superman is a Christ-like savior figure" and then there's...

HE’S JESUS! HE’S JESUS! SUPERMAN IS JESUS! DO YOU GET IT YET? If we add in a completely unnecessary scene that puts him directly in front of this depiction of Jesus for several minutes, will you get it? I mean they made Superman 33. It should have been 30, because Jesus started his ministry at 30, but it HAD to be 33 because that’s the famous Jesus-age, and maybe ignorant people would get it.

What MoS did was not allegory... it was a whole ton of anvils with SUPERMAN IS JESUS carved into them being thrown down on top of us.

And then, of course, there was this fun thing...

At least, that was my impression after seeing the movie. It's just my opinion, so obviously anyone can disagree and that's fine. It's what I saw.

How Jesse Eisenberg snores:

*inhaaaaaaaaaallleeeeee* "terrioterrioterrioterrioterrioterrio..."

*inhaaaaaaaaaallleeeeee* "terrioterrioterrioterrioterrioterrio..."

someone mentioned his statement was probably about the McWeenie report that had him fired & JL being replaced by a batman movie. And I agree. Soon after he posted the Jason pic which helped fans deal with all this. That rumor really spread and people were blogging about it like it was going to happen.

Yup, the EW article about start of production and the tweet came out at exactly the right time as fans were at low morale thanks to the ridiculous rumors which were coming out daily - the "Affleck rewrote the script dressed as Batman" was one particularly crazy one.

Will there be a new religion with new followers called, "Terrionite"? :lmao:

If Terrio can bring that Argo quality to this picture then I'll happily dedicate my life to the church of Terrio

Now come the serious business --the embargo on review will be lifted on 18th, so I think that it'll be wise of you to lower your expectations. The early buzz this week were all positive but subjective. It's better to keep your expectation in check until actual screening for the general audience.

It's not handled all that deftly in most literature, either. Or film. Even classic literature and film with other Christ Figures. It's not a particularly difficult concept, and is in fact very accessible to many and easily recognizeable, and that's part of why it's used over and over.

This is a movie. Visual iconography is rarely all that subtle if you know what you're looking for. Nor is it neccessarily intended to be.

There are few subtle ways to make Superman do the "Jesus on the cross" pose so often found in literature and film, especially out of context. Granted, SUPERMAN RETURNS did it in a better context, with him actually having sacrificed himself.

What MoS did was not allegory... it was a whole ton of anvils with SUPERMAN IS JESUS carved into them being thrown down on top of us.

Since when does allegory have to be subtle?

The movie draws parallels with regard to the concept of Superman as a savior. It does not say Superman is Jesus.

Who confirmed the 18th? I was expecting it to be the 20th or 21st honestly as the NYC premiere is on the 20th and the fan screenings are on the 21st,

Does anyone here want a "Front of the line" pass i.e. you get to go in before everyone else and choose the best seats, for the fan screening at the Irvine Spectrum on the 21st? I am not in the area due to work commitments that day and giving my pass away.

FRONT OF THE LINE
This pass grants Front of the Line Access to people people holding the pass. Upon arrival, please proceed to the front of the line. This special pass does not waive you through the security checkpoint. Doors will open one hour before showtime for the Press/Front of Line and a half hour prior for the General Public. This pass DOES
NOT guarantee a seat.

My bad, I thought that it was 18th.

Fair enough. Most review embargoes are till around 12 hours after the premiere. Mainly because that is when the largest number of press can see the film and the 12 hours or so gives them enough time to type out their thoughts and publish.

In some cases of course you have to release reviews early, like most Marvel movies release a week early overseas, so the reviews hit around 10 days before the US release or in cases like this week's Divergent which is releasing in a few countries early. But in most cases, the reviews for movies hit only post the premiere because it makes the most sense for the reviews to come in along with photos from the premiere and so on.

The earliest premiere is the one in Mexico on the 19th. So I would expect the embargo to be lifted either the 20th or 21st, maybe even the 22nd but definitely one of those 3 days
