All Things DCEU News, Discussion, and Speculation - Part 2

Group/hive mind. Too many weak minded people want to be with the popular people and say that the DCEU is bad.

Hmm. I wonder what's gonna happen if a DCEU film actually gets a decent RT percentage.

For starters - how about NOT deconstruct him to the point where he's a broodish, angsty millenial. It wasn't even relatable - it just kept sucking the spirit out of both films he was involved in. When he did talk, it came off like he was pitching product on the QVC.

They absolutely need to loosen the character up. I mean there was a moment when he was atop that building with Luthor and he looked like a freakin' demon with the glowing eyes and spewing rage. Now clearly he's not going to be happy about what Luthor had done - but it was still odd.

Since they didn't do what you said its not a problem. I related to him just fine lemme throw the love of your life off a building to get your attention and see how you feel. He's positively mellow compared to how I would be.

So, with Logan proving that critics still like dark, serious CBMs, and with Iron Fist debunking the "Disney pays off the critics" theory, what's the current explanation for the negative reaction to the DCEU?

An excellent question, Batsy.

Batman v Superman and Logan aren't comparable, and the pay off critics thing is mostly an extremist point of view that most supporters of the DCEU don't buy into. If I were to hypothesize, I'd say the reaction is the result of expectation issues. Because DC characters have had more previous incarnations in live action and because the MCU are the more current "formula" for superheroes as well as a shared universe, there are expectations for the characters and the narratives to adhere to certain pre-established norms. When they don't, it can be difficult to adjust to and accept.

Well...they did try and deconstruct the heroes....

We learned that people don’t like seeing their heroes deconstructed.

Take with a pinch of salt but rumours about the DCEU (made me laugh the type The Fate and Furious :funny:

The budget for Wonder Woman is 125 million. The studio is very pleased with how the film turned out and early discussions for a potential sequel have been discussed.

Last April, we posted a large list of alleged DCEU leaks (linked at the bottom of the page). Some seemed to speculate that they were untrue and nothing more than people making stuff up. That was until a lot of the stuff on the article actually turned out to be true. One of which was that Joe Manganiello had been cast as Deathstroke way before it was officially announced.

Well, it turns out there are more leaks to report on – all of which are positive – unless you’re a fan of The Flash, of course.

A recent 4chan leak post in a DCEU sub-reddit revealed the following (potential spoilers but nothing major):

The budget for Wonder Woman is 125 million. The studio is very pleased with how the film turned out and early discussions for a potential sequel have been discussed.

The Justice League trailer will debut in April and will be attached to Fate of the Furious. The plan is also to release a scene from Justice League in front of King Arthur similar to how the Dark Knight trilogy marketed their films.

Dr. Stephen Shin will appear in Aquaman. The studio is currently searching for actors for the role.

Brainiac will be the main villain for Man of Steel 2. The story was written by Geoff Johns and Zack Snyder. The plan is to place the film on the November 1st, 2019 release date.

Although Doug Liman is attached to direct Justice League Dark, the film is not considered a priority.

Gotham City Sirens is being targeted for February 2019.

The Flash film has been pushed back to 2020.

This seems legit. I'm not saying it is. And of course Barry, the fastest man alive...

we're all family here, we should know this

Charles Roven teases future DCEU movies having flashbacks, and flashforwards

"For example, the Justice League movie will take place in a universe that's post-Batman v Superman, just like Batman v Superman takes place in a universe that's post-Man of Steel," producer Charles Roven told ComicBook.com in an interview supporting Wonder Woman's release. "When we're dealing with either The Flash or Aquaman, since they will take place in a universe that has happened after Justice League, the characters and the world will be informed by the movies that preceded them, except that there's flashbacks or whatever within those particular movies, [and] flashforwards within those particular movies."

That's part of the job of the production staff, which now includes Geoff Johns at the head of the team, keeping things straight while allowing the individual writers and directors of each film to grow on its own.

Next thing he will say is that the films will have 3-act structures. Ground breaking stuff right here :hehe:

Now I'm curious how far ahead you'd have to plan for the 'flash forwards' as so to avoid contradicting anything that could come up in a future film.

The critics know we're on to them and are trying to throw us off the scent. :o

Depends on how far they want to go and what they actually plan on showing us. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if the flash forwards were actually just post-credit scenes, given a different name to separate DC from Marvel.

This is actually such a relief to me. I've been really worried that they were going to play it straight and abandon that story-telling flourish. I really like the idea that we can see things gradually progressing to that narrative juncture and anticipate what's going to happen, and connect the dots. I really love time-travelling stories and narrative devices when they're well integrated :woot:

Hmmm.... Flash forwards are still in... Flash possibly pushed back to 2020.

We just might get that Injustice/Flashpoint-Rebirth soft reboot movie after all.

flash forwards make sense with the flash but i hope they arent prominent with other characters.

Interviews and Superman's monomythic arc suggests he did. Even the latest interview with his assistant director, we came to know Snyder had this planned for a pretty long time, and Roven told us that MOS was always meant to kick off an extended universe(which coincidentally is a topic which has always been discussed a lot here).

Okay that's interesting  Of course there'll be those who won't believe he had any plan at all! :yay:

Hmm. I wonder what's gonna happen if a DCEU film actually gets a decent RT percentage.

We would all be happy about it, I would hope. Who wouldn't be?

Btw... Logan is brilliant. If a DCEU film even gets close to it in quality, we'll be doing fine.

Looking at some of those;

The budget for Wonder Woman is 125 million. The studio is very pleased with how the film turned out and early discussions for a potential sequel have been discussed. Good to hear. I'm a decades-long Batman fan but WW is the film I'm most looking forward to.

Dr. Stephen Shin will appear in Aquaman. The studio is currently searching for actors for the role. I hoped he would.

Brainiac will be the main villain for Man of Steel 2. The story was written by Geoff Johns and Zack Snyder. The plan is to place the film on the November 1st, 2019 release date. Looking forward to Supes second solo. I can take or leave Braniac but I know a lot of people will be happy about him.

Gotham City Sirens is being targeted for February 2019. Nice - looking forward to that.

The Flash film has been pushed back to 2020. Not really a surprise...

So Gotham City Sirens, The Batman and MOS2 in 2019!! I'm down for that! Also I really hope Wonder Woman ends up being a success and we get a franchise out of it. Its been long overdue for the character!
