All Things Wonder Woman: An Open Discussion - Part 1

I hope they confirm the time period because I'm tired of hearing stuff about it being in the past.

Flashbacks are good.

As a whole, I want the main story to be set in modern times.

Those are definite improvements, Vonter Voman. I'd get rid of her shoulder pad as well. I'm not much of an artists, but I will post my version later. I much prefer her movie costume to the one above.

It cracks me up every month I see WW in this

DC is just really weird.
Remove the shoulder pads and the blades and it goes up to a 5. And even then it's still too busy

Hers's an interesting theory... The flashback scene set during the Crimean War (1856) features Hippolyta as WW (not Diana) and she plays some role in that war, later when she returns back to Theymyscira, she decides not to step into Man's world ever again, all this happens before Diana is born.

And, Wonder Woman is just a title given to those amazons who decide to go into Man's world by the Queen Hippolyta, in the modern times Diana decides to go there (for some reason that will be explained in the story) but the Queen is against it and does everythingg in her power to stop her, such as arranging a tournament to decide who will go outside Theymyscira, only the winner will be permitted to go and represent the amazons as WW.

Nice!

Always thought Hippolyta was her own "WW" before Diana anyway. Much like how Jor El was a "Superman" in his own way on Krypton.

I think Catherine Zeta Jones would own as Hippolyta.

I honestly don't have any preference for what period her film takes place.

I think Snyder mentioned her solo would be an origin.

The Empire cover story on BvS confirms the prior Deadline story that Wonder Woman will start shooting this fall:

That'll clear the deck for Justice League to start shooting next spring. It shows a lot of confidence on WB's part how much they're moving forward before BvS is released.
I think Johns was there. I remember him posting some pics from his London hotel not too long ago

Although some say he was there for some local comic con

Which is fine with me as it is:

-An interesting origin.
-One that we haven't really seen in a superhero film yet.

If they spend a lot of time with the Amazons' origin as well as Diana's, a lot of the movie can be spent in ancient times and on Themyscira. This could be a reason they decide to go with a period movie, either in the rumoured '20s, or WW2. The majority of the movie could be spent showing stuff like the Amazons being formed, the gods bickering, Hippolyte betrayed by Hercules, Themyscira being built etc. Then we get WW's first venture into Man's World and we see Diana dealing with the changing outside world, esp. for women.

However, the report of Michelle MacLaren's departure seemed to indicate that she wanted to spend a lot of time with the origin, with Braveheart-style battles. And maybe they did not want to spend the majority of time on that.

They should probably give Greg Rucka a call while they're at it. His WW run was really good.

He was good at developing the relationships between the Amazons. Plus building up Diana's relationships in the modern world (such as the Themysciran Embassy.)

And he gave us that SUPER bad ass moment when Diana blinded herself in the fight with Medusa. I don't care what anyone says... That moment was awesome. I also think that it's funny that the Azz gets all this credit for remaking the Olympians in WW but Rucka did a similar "Modern" take that for sure wasn't like the gods in the Perez WW or the Simonson Thor.

I am not even a huge Rucka fan, but when he does good stuff, I admit it.

Gail Simone wrote the amazing animated movie, why didn't they let her write the live action movie?!

That makes me think the live action movie won't be as good as the animated movie.

Gail Simone has only written animation and comics. She co-wrote the story for the animated movie. Michael Jelenic wrote the screenplay.

And, as said a few pages back, she was consulted on the WW movie:

Anonymous asked: Have any of the producers of DC's live-action properties ever approached you to write anything for them? Would you like to?

Not to write the films, but I get called and asked for advice about characters from filmmakers all the time. Particularly Deadpool and Wonder Woman. (29 July 2015)

I don't get this logic that just because she isn't writing the live action it won't be as good as the animated movie :whatever:

The animated movie was a fairly good adaptation of the Perez comic book, but it had time restrictions and a live action movie can develop the story further. The animated movie jumped rather quickly and I found certain aspects weak (e.g. the Etta Candy stuff, the cult of Ares/sacrifice stuff).

You can't just write off the live action movie already just because a writer you like isn't working on the movie. Live action is a different beast.

We'll see.

I just don't get why they let this guy who wrote Pan which we don't even know if is a good movie to begin with, to write it.

Gail Simone is an amazing writer who knows WW more than most, how much does the Pan screenwriter know of WW?! So it would only make sense to me to let Simone write it.

Exactly. Let's wait and see before dismissing it or making grand pronouncements about the quality of a movie before it is even made. #internet

We don't, but WB knows the script. So it could be that they saw something either in that script, previous ones, or even something else he's written, but didn't get to be filmed, that made them believe he is a good fit for this movie.

I am not entirely comfortable with the choice, due to lack of any truly substantial work prior to this, but I assume they had to have a reason to choose him. One that we, naturally, don't know about.

Gail Simone has a story credit on the animated movie, along with Michael Jelenic. Jelenic wrote the screenplay.

From what I saw of Pan it doesn't seem very well written (another prophecy of "The One" who will come and save everyone?! Seriously?! Make it feel like another Alice in Wonderland, not a good sign) so yeah, I don't have much confidence with him writing it.

Screenwriters don't have much freedom on big studio projects. They generally work under close supervision, follow a lot of notes and deliver the script the director and producers want. How Wonder Woman turns out is going to depend a lot more on Patty Jenkins, Charles Roven and Zack and Deborah Snyder and the story choices they make than on Fuchs.

Why not? There's not a big difference between writing comic books and movies, in both the writers write a script for someone to follow and "bring to life" (in movies, the director, in comics, the one who draw and paint the books).

Warner used to give a lot of freedom to their writers//directors, however with the whole connected universe thing, I'm not really sure, which is actually a shame, the one thing I hate they took from Marvel (at least I think they did we don't know yet, and Zack did claimed they still gives them creative freedom).

Not to mention that it was not only Fuchs writing his script but that they got 5 other writers to work on their own scripts after Fuchs delivered his script. And then Patty Jenkins (who is also a writer) came on board.
