I don't know about "never leave the island". I imagine the amazons were expected to have *some* circumstances where they'd leave and do stuff.

That said, I wonder if the armor, and many of the other artifacts, were left in the safekeeping of the Amazons *specifically* so they could be used by Diana when she came off age. Which is to say, they weren't intended as just random gifts, but as the divine birthright of Diana.

That's absolutely how I saw it.

There better be a twirl transformation in WW2

They even have a good justification, in "Diana realizing her true divine heritage and power". I mean, she's probably a long time away from learning how to do random reality warping whatnot ( I think its a safe assumption that godpowers take practice, on an immortal time scale ), but "summon my stuff" seems like it'd be a good beginners trick.

The acclaim continues. :mnm:

Oh, and on a personal note, if the film stopped the moment Gal Gadot made her stunning entrance, I'd give it five stars and go home happy — she's incredibly beautiful and, more importantly, quite a good actress.

As soon as Chris Pine comes on the scene, the film takes flight and never lands or takes a breath. It could actually garner a best picture nomination. And Gal Gadot is perfect."

Oscars: Could 'Wonder Woman' Break Into Best Picture Race?

I had my doubts about Gal but I loved that she proved me wrong. Her performance was so endearing, and whatever she may lack as a thespian (I'm not knocking because I still really can't tell) she more than makes up for in screen presence. She's magnetic.

As good as Wonder Woman was, if any 2017 comic book movie gets a Best Picture nomination, it's Logan.

Remember some of the outrage when Suicide Squad won that Oscar? Imagine if Both Wonder Woman and Logan get nominated for best picture and Wonder Woman wins.

I don't think either of them have a chance at a best picture nomination, but out of the two I'd bet it be Logan.

Damn, 2017 has been a great year for superhero films. Let's hope that continues.

I still never understood the outrage. Quality of the movie aside, the makeup on Killer Croc looked really good, so that was justified. Loads of worse movies have been nominated or won technical Oscars. Transformers 2 was nominated for best visual effects and that had CGI wrecking ball testicles. :o

Best Picture noms just depend on the quality of the year. If award season is lacking this year then anything can happen.

Oscar Buzz for WW

Academy members saw #WonderWoman last night and it actually has some (very) early Oscar buzz https://t.co/rhPf27pSsK

It would be amazing if WW could break into the best picture race. Imagine that.

Also on the subject of Patty Jenkins directing Justice League 2 instead of WW2, I think the Peter Principle is relevant here:

The Peter principle is a concept in management theory formulated by Laurence J. Peter and published in 1969. It states that the selection of a candidate for a position is based on the candidate's performance in their current role, rather than on abilities relevant to the intended role.

In an organizational structure, assessing an employee's potential for a promotion is often based on their performance in the current job. This eventually results in their being promoted to their highest level of competence and potentially then to a role in which they are not competent, referred to as their "level of incompetence". The employee has no chance of further promotion, thus reaching their career's ceiling in an organization.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_principle

Now I'm not saying Patty Jenkins would definitely be "incompetent" in the role of JL2 director, but she may not be as good as she would be for WW2 director. I don't think "incompetence" always means complete incompetence, but rather that they're not as competent as they would be at the role they've excelled at, which often forms the basis of their promotion to the higher role.

It's a bit like Captain Kirk in the original Star Trek movies. From Star Trek the motion picture, he was promoted to Admiral. Now he was okay as an admiral, but where he really excelled was in the field as a captain of a starship, and that's where he longed to be instead of behind a desk at Starfleet. Every opportunity he got, he took it to command the Enterprise again. Finally, at the end of Star Trek IV: The Voyager Home, as a disciplinary action for disobeying Starfleet orders, he was demoted back to Captain, which was his dream all along.

Promoting Jenkins to JL2 might mean that she's a good director of a team movie, but not a great one, whereas for WW2 she would be a great director. Just because she works in one context as the director of WW (which is where her passion lies) doesn't mean she'll work as well for Justice League, which is not what she's as enthusiastic about.

Keep Jenkins of WW2 and don't put her on JL2. Otherwise we might only get a decent JL2 and maybe a decent WW2 instead of a really great WW2 in her hands, and perhaps a great JL2 in the hands of someone else.

Both my and my girlfriend's "celebrity we're allowed to do" is now Gal Gadot. My life is coming together.

My female co-worker who isn't really into CBMs lit up like a Christmas tree when I asked if she saw the movie, saying it was awesome. Definitely think this could hook in the GA in a way most CBMs don't, given the barren wasteland of female-focused blockbusters.

Funnily enough, she accidentally stumbled into the premiere last week. Perks of living in LA.

I ADORE this film... but no way this breaks into any best picture race.

If even TDK can't get a best picture nomination, I'm not sure I buy Wonder Woman getting a Best Picture nod since the Academy is full of a bunch of pretentious, snooty voters. It'll likely get a bunch of technical nominations but that's it. Same with Logan.

Since they expanded the number of nominations a few years back, the odds are better than they used to be.
But I agree, it is a long shot.

Logan has a slightly better chance, because, it doesn't look like Superhero film.
and Fox practically sold it as a contemporary western.

I know that it won't happen, But I would love to see both films nominated.
Hey, I can dream can't I?
