The DC costumes are fantastic and they shouldn't be changed to please people with ADD.

Both Winnie The Pooh and Tinkerbell have been U.N. Ambassadors.
And what were they ambassadors for, how long ago was this, and did anyone complain about it?

I want WW to keep the same outfit she wore in her movie.

Wonder Woman movie's look was inspired by someone very surprising

This article was written in April:

Wonder Woman is already unique among movies. In June it will become the first female-led film to come out since Marvel kicked off the superhero blockbuster age with Iron Man, and the first of those films to be directed by a woman.

Not content with those landmarks, director of photography Matt Jensen and director Patty Jenkins settled on a rather surprising inspiration for the look of the Gal Gadot-starring DC Comics movie.

"A big influence on both of us was the painter John Singer Sargent, who did a lot of portrait work at the turn of the century," Jensen told Digital Spy.

Sargent was an American artist who worked out of London in the late 19th and early 20th century, known for his portraits of generals, aristocrats and socialites. But he's also remembered for his painting Gassed, a depiction of the survivors of a mustard gas attack during World War I (in which Wonder Woman is set).

"His lighting style influenced the way that I lit the movie. I think Patty really responded to the beautiful soft light that he used in his paintings on his subjects," he said.

"I think a key thing for us was we wanted rich blacks, beautiful portraiture on the faces, and when we did see colour – because he tended to not use a lot of colour – it was vibrant. So that was the guiding principle for me."

It's not every day that filmmakers credit a fine artist who died almost a century ago.

Jensen said that "Patty didn't want the movie to seem old-timey", and that they deliberately avoided the standard techniques used for shooting period films, like colours that are "a little de-saturated or bleeding together" and "warm sepia" tones.

"It was very important to [Jenkins] that we have a modern use of colour throughout the whole movie, and that we use modern techniques in terms of the lensing to tell the story," he added. "And so, in many ways the period really came from the production design, the costumes and the vehicles and details."

On top of all those concerns, they wanted to make sure that the film shared similarities with the look of Zack Snyder's previous DCEU films, Man of Steel and Batman v Superman.

"Zack's movies are very visual," said Jensen. "We wanted to do our own thing but still keep it relatable to the other two movies."

Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Lucy Davis, Saïd Taghmaoui, Ewen Bremner and David Thewlis will also feature in the origin movie.

I love John Singer Sargent's work! He's one of my favourite painters. It's great that he was an inspiration for WW's cinematography.

What is Diana's age? Her training from child to adult we saw in the movie; did she become an adult at a human rate? Reason i ask is because it was said by the film makers she was thousands of years old.

It's never said in the movie. My guess is they're being vague about it in case they want to explore it more in sequels (along with Themyscara's placement/how the Germans found it by accident).

Etta Candy gets old and writes a faux-historical account of World War 1 involving a mysterious 'Wonder Woman'. While it is relegated to fiction resulting from the over active imagination of an octogenarian, conspiracy theorists sought evidence of the existence of this mysterious figure.

The myth propagated over the next few decades but was never more until one Alexander Luthor Junior directed his considerable resources into finding this 'Wonder Woman' and caught a break.

That does sound pretty good. A nice easter egg would be to have a book on Diana's shelf with the title 'That Wonderful Woman," by Etta Candy.

So what do people think of people on Fox News saying she wasn't patriotic enough bc she wasn't draped in the flag? Seems like her actions were pretty patriotic to me.

I think it is so goddamn stupid... Nothing better to do, hey Fox..?

Oh man I loved this movie even more the second time around. Gal and Chris are pure love. One of the best couples I've seen in any movie. The score sounded really great. Even the excessive slo-mo that bothered me slightly the first time just seamlessly meshed right in with the movie. There are some "flaws" that people associate with Snyder movies (which I don't think are flaws in the first place) but I feel people are overlooking them a little bit. But I don't care either way. This movie has such a great rewatchability factor. I've just got out of the theatre and I'm already missing it, I'm missing Diana, I'm missing Steve. I love everything about it.

I know the Feelz. I just saw it again today and I brought my mother along. She loved it!

I thought Wonder Woman was a very good movie...with a weird climactic fight.

I'd say it was 90-95% spot on.

The point where she killed Ludendorf was an anti-climax, and then it dove right back in once she was questioning all her beliefs and Ares finally appeared. It set you up for the confrontation with 'Ares' and then left you hanging when it ended so quick and ramped right back up again. It was done so well.

Question for those who have already seen the movie: Do you guys think it'll age well? I think as formulaic as this film was, it can stand the test of time. I see it getting better and better over time. I can't say the same about a lot of CBM's.

Definitely. It's setting alone, as in WW1, already has it set as a period piece. But it's message and struggle are just as prevalent today as it is in the time it is set in. Ten or twenty years from now, I don't see this movie 'aging' much at all.

If anything, just extend the top like they did with Hippolyta

wonder-woman-amazons-themyscira-236471-1280x0.jpg

Though I love her hero suit, I think the cut of this gold outfit fit her body a lot better. But yes, any minor changes would be the raise the bodice a bit more and the lower the hem-line. I'm sure that in some shots there was cheek showing...:drl:

I think that if they are not immortal, then she and the Amazons age at a far slower rate, possibly helped by being on Themysrica. I believe the Diana we see in the beginning is not far removed from the tale her mother tells her. For her time I think it was something pretty recent, whereas for us it could have been a millennia since.

I think each time a new actor was introduced, the time frame was jumping ahead a thousand years or so. The fall of Olympus happened thousands of years ago, and that would explain her being the child of Zeus and Hippolyta, and yet still being a young adult by the time the movie happens.

I think her costume in this film is near perfect. Only thing I'd change is to make the skirt a little longer. But WW is one of the few female superheroes I don't want to see "covered up" with pants or whatever, because the battle skirt fits the Amazon look.

How can you fight in this? :mnm:

Tinkerbell was the ambassador of green in 2009 and Winnie The Pooh was the ambassador of friendship in 1998. There wasn't any controversy over those but there was when Wonder Woman was an ambassador.

Because I don't think the issue was really that she was a fictional character, but that they thought she was a sexist character that promoted a male fantasy. They were just too quick to judge, especially now that the movie has come out and is appealing to women everywhere. They were idiots.

Agreed. Those other costumes posted before are friggin hideous. Her current costume looks like it is from Greek History.

I'm trying to come down from Wonder Woman, but can't seem to shake the high. Saw it for a second time Sunday to a surprisingly full matinee showing. I have this thing pegged in my top 3;4 favorite CBM's but want to make sure in a 3rd viewing in its second weekend, which I can't wait for already!

On the subject of

the name "Wonder Woman" not being used in the film,

I think it's often better to show, not tell with something like that.

It reminds me a bit of "Avengers Assemble" not being used in the first Avengers movie, even though there was probably a strong temptation to do so. Instead, the assembling is handled visually, particularly in that one shot of the heroes standing back-to-back.

In this movie, I don't leave the theater questioning why she is called Wonder Woman (or why she might be called that), because it is shown. Which I think probably creates a greater impact than trying to work the name into the film somehow.

They can do that later, if they want, by having a reporter give her that name, or whatever, but I think that could easily feel trite by comparison.

I like it because the title is essentially describing her instead of just being her "name," lol.

I find it odd that Tencent and Wanda appeared in the later marketing for WW but only WB, Ratpac and DC are credited in the actual intro. Maybe they're only credited in China rather than the rest of the world.

I would like the naming convention of 'Wonder Woman' to be a modern thing, and am glad it was not used in this movie. I didn't miss it at all, for one as she simply is Wonder Woman, and 2, I think in the current media driven world, naming her such would be impossible to avoid.

So, have someone call her Wonder Woman in JL or in the sequel and have done. The rest of the Trio are named, so why not her..?

Curious to know what they call the sequel.

There's some parallel's between Wonder Woman and Man of Steel as well. In Man of Steel, Lois yelled out to Clark a lot and in Wonder Woman, Steve Trevor yelled out to Diana a lot. The DCEU themes are starting to stick. As more DC films come down the pipeline, it's looking like they are going to interconnect smoothly, especially if they cracked the emotional and "heart" code many said was lacking in the DCEU in the first 3 films.

So Patty says there will not be an extended cut, she says that barely anything was cut or deleted which is very encouraging to hear. Although, I'll be honest, and this is just me, I would never say no to a longer version of a movie I enjoy, I would have been happy at a WW extended cut but happy to hear that nothing was compromised. ;)

Curious to know what they call the sequel.

Wonder Woman II or Wonder Woman:'insert random subtitle'. Wonder Woman Returns would be neat as a homage to both Batman Returns and Superman Returns.

No need to an extended cut. Film's length was good enough, if anything it could have used a little more trimming here and there.

Curious to know what they call the sequel.

Depends on the storyline they go for.

If it's based on any of the Justice League cartoon episodes, it could be:

Wonder Woman: Paradise Lost
Wonder Woman: Maid of Honor

Or if they went with that Alex Ross story, they could call it Wonder Woman: Spirit of Truth.
