All Things Wonder Woman: An Open Discussion - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Part 25

Patty Jenkins obviously has over plans and should be allowed to do as she wishes and not be beholden to a stupid line in a movie. Wonder Woman at her core would never do such a thing as abandon mankind and Patty obviously sees that.

JL may have more rework in it about WW being more known after world war 1, we don't know.

The WW sequel may certainly have pointing to her being a well known figure especially if it is set in the past.

Some people act like this has never been done before. Like it is the first time they have changed some continuity or background of a character as they we're being a new franchise.

Which is something I disagreed with when Gadot said it and I disagree with now. Wondy has been abandoning mankind in the comics plenty of times... off the top of the head - after the killing of Maxwell Lord and prior to the "Infinite Crisis".

That makes ZERO sense. As illustrated in BVS when Lex Luthor discusses his "meta-human" theory with the Senators, no, super humans were not a known quantity before Superman's public appearance. This is obvious in both MOS and BVS and it would be a HUGE contradiction of what has already been established. Batman also sees the picture from WWI and asks "WHO ARE YOU?". She was unknown to the world's greatest detective before BVS. It's not just "A small line in there."

Have to agree with this.

Got to be more specific than "plenty of times" and not a time when she killed a guy and thought that SHE wasn't good enough to protect mankind and not they weren't worth protecting.

This is just like when someone says Superman isn't an emo/self-centered/insecure/unsure hero and another likes to point out 3 or 4 iterations in a brief run an a comic here and there.

I said at the core. What most people know and what is generally written about Wonder Woman is that she is a protector, a lover, a truth seeker, a compassionate person. She doesn't abandon or look for some way to get out of fighting for people who can't fight for themselves.

I can go find any comic where Superman and Wonder Woman are out there both being selfish boneheads.

There’s nothing to prove, analyze or dissect. They did a retcon to the DCEU. Plain and simple and from Gadot’s lips to our ears. Before the retcon, Diana walked away from mankind. Now, she never walked away and superheroes existed before MOS. We accept retcons in comics so it shouldn’t be that hard to accept them in comic book movies.

Tis' not a small one though AND we actually haven't seen yet how or even if it will be implemented. Again... In MOS and BVS (let's remember not only Batman not knowing Diana/Wonder Woman) we have talking heads speaking on the existence and ramifications of a public super human NOT as if it's old hat and Luthor's "theory". If the next film doesn't even touch on why she's been a public super hero yet all that still stands its a DUMB retcon.

The Marching Jayhawks play a halftime tribute to Wonder Woman in honor of Patty Jenkins who happens to be a Lawrence native.

Ehh I dont see any retcon. BvS left the whole thing ambigious.

Look three possibilities were there :

1. WW completely abandoned humanity 100 years ago.
2. WW went into secret mode 100 years ago, working BTS, and not becoming a public hero till the Doomsday fight
3. WW being a public hero between 1917 and 2017.

Now if the 3rd one is the one they decide to use in the future films, then yes its a retcon. And the first scenario is NOT WHAT they showed in BvS because we saw she was working undercover and helped with Doomsday. Its a misconception and a misinterpretation of that line.

The thing THAT happened is basically the 2nd scenario, which is what BOTH BvS and WW backs up. So basically no retcon.

^ This.

It will be a dumb retcon as it could be easily explained. If they make no effort to explain it more fool them IMO.

Following my previous comment on WW,
I have watched Thor Ragnarok, i have much fun, but it's just not my taste.
I prefer first Thor.

Barry to Diana; 'What are your super powers again..?'

Diana to Barry; 'I'm a god...'
