Am i alone in getting just a little annoyed when people sign their own posts?

I always thought that stuff was typed automatically, but to think a poster is actually spending their time to add all that extra stuff just seems like a waste of time, but I know some professors that I email who do the same, so I guess its almost the same here in that its their signature of approval so that everyone knows that it was them who posted.

The funny thing is I don't even like doing it in e-mails, especially when I've been sending e-mails back and forth with someone, but since it's considered "professional", I feel forced to.

The problem is with the way it "sounds" for the person reading through the thread. Forums are generally written as one big conversation between posters. Imagine having a conversation in real life like that.

"Yeah, I thought it looked pretty cool. ....-Steve."
"Yeah... I know what your name is. Looks like they're going pretty cosmic with it."
"It definitely looks pretty epic. ....-Steve."

And a lot of times people will put an additional signature before their automatic signature. I generally just sign my emails in whatever manner they're signing their emails, since I'm usually trying to get their business. But anyway, emails are different than posts.

Agreed. Signing a post is a waste of time. I mean, I guess it puts your own personal stamp on your posts, but at the same time, your writing style should do that. No one posts the same way on here.

It's almost just as annoying that whenever someone mentions a complaint about something like this, 90% of the people that respond, respond with nothing but repeating the complained about thing like a bunch of monkeys. Like in this thread.
