Comics Amazing Spider-Man #584 -- Character Assassination part 1 (spoilers)

Another great issue! The ending was really cool, too! I'll write a full review tommorow (I picked up the book yesterday).

Really? Since when? Also remember spiderman is an outlaw from registration, there's no logical reason why the police wouldnt unmask him.

go read character assissination interlude in Spider-man Extra #1 and you see why they can't. I'm scanning it right now I'll post it soon

Ok, I'm going to admit i'm really enjoying Spider-man at the moment. I've moaned about OMD and BND, but have continued to read the issues. After finishing the last three issues, it dawned on me - i'm actually enjoying Spider-man again. I realised I hadn't been much over the last few years. So for all its faults - I'm enjoying Spider-man again.

Ironically I'm also going to have to put a stop to most of my subscriptions. My 'comic room' is soon be my first new-born child's room - so I don't have anywhere to store my 4,500 comics except up the loft :(. So with no space, I'm going to freeze most of my ongoing comics.

I wonder if this story is going to be in the next issue or if it will entirely be about Menace considering the next issue is called Character Assassination Interlude and so is this story.
I wouldn't mind an entire issue devoted to Menace since its explaining why Menace exists.

T-bats how is Street Fighter 4 I haven't played it yet

Thanks for the scans bryanss3, i didnt know the SHRA actually kinda protects unregistered heroes from unmasking. I wonder if that was Tony's idea, if so then i have newfound respect for the guy.

I don't think they'll reprint that story in the actual story. They didn't with the other stories that happened in the Extra, like how Hammerhead ended up all suped-up when he showed up in ASM. And I believe Pt.3 to "Character Assassination" is going to completely break away from the main what's-happening-now story to explain Menace's origin. Then again, I could've sworn I read an interview that was talking about this and said that Pt. 3 deals with the aftermath of the major death that's supposed to happen...

Character Assassination goes....

Part 1 (ASM 584)
Part 2 (ASM 585)
Interlude (Extra #1, Spidey at court)
Interlude (ASM 586, Menace backstory)
Part 3 (ASM 587)
Part 4 (ASM 588)

The interlude doesn't count as a part 3, right? It's like Part 1, Part 2, interlude, Part 3 and Part 4

Edit: nevermind!

I didn't realize that, instead of Part 1-5, that they'll consider it a 4-part story with an interlude in the middle. Got it.

Part 3 is not the interlude, otherwise its not a freaking interlude. Character Assassination is only 4 parts, plus the interlude.

EDIT-- There ya go :cwink:

Agreed. I was LIVID after BND, but the book slowly won me over, and now im enjoying it tremendously!

I don't play the game, but I am currently playing a Hype Survivor in Community, and as a show of "unity", I changed my avatar as all of my trine members did...

I'm just guessing they might reprint that specific one cause it kind of explains a lot within this arc and if you don't have Spider-Man extra #1 you might not fully get all of the story.
The Hammerhead was a short origin/rebuilding of the character. when you read AMS 575 you don't really need that story you just see he's back and stronger.
I could be wrong though since the arc isn't over. I'm hoping they don't reprint the extra story, but would understand why if thats what happens.

Completely off-topic, but....

I was channel-surfing, and I can't pass me up some Spidey 2, especially during the Doc Ock fight/subway scene. Hands down, the best superhero action sequence ever. No debate as far as I'm concerned.

Ask me, 'Spider-Man 2' was the only Spidey movie worth a damn. I kinda liked 'Spider-Man 1' when it first came out, but it hasn't aged well (Power-Ranger Goblin is laughable) and its flaws like the ending really stick out now. 'Spider-Man 3' was always crap. I thought it was a bloated mess of a movie when I first saw it and I haven't changed my opinion since then. It proved it's possible to be slap-dash and overwritten at the same time.

So yeah, I agree. The train scene in Spidey 2 was the best scene of the best movie.

Finally! One good thing to come out of the SHRA - before if a cop found spidey out cold in an alley he could whip off the mask and drag him in; now they can only drag him in, or lose their job and possibly go to prison for breaking a federal law.

On the ID of menace? I suppose it had to be
someone in Peter's inner circle/new supporting cast as it being a nobody who took the gear or was given it by someone to work for them to ensure Hollister's success would probably have tanked. But I am a little tired of the old "Male superperson who turns out to be a girl in a muscle suit (or in this case some kind of chemical transformation a la Hyde)". Replacement Spider-Man, Ronin (okay, run out of names)

Spider Tracer?
more depth to this partial reveal, or are Vin and his partner (and others) just pure scum who've been planting tracers on murder victims (or killing them themselves) to get Spidey charged with actual crimes rather than vigilante-based stuff

well they wouldn't necessarily have to reprint the story. Spider-Man still has criminal charges against him and he's still in prison. They could just pick up at the criminal trial and you really wouldn't know that you missed anything huge if you didn't pick up the extra. Even though it was a good story.

The interlude was fantastic i thought.

Noting but a conversation between Lilly and Harry, but it was so dynamic i thought and really brought the character of Lilly into a new level, really she was a one dementional character before, but i think if she is around for a while, she is as demented and crazy as Norm and Harry, she could fit right in, with the Osborns -_-

Harry smacking her, and then her retaliating, plus she entire monologue, which concludes with....

Harry going to his fathers secret lab and taking the formula (so it seems) and on the glider? ****IN A!
