American Psycho

Which isn't a bad thing.

And yeah, Iwas watching some AP clips on yt yesterday and I found myself laughing. His comedic timing is great. The confession scene alone gets a few laughs. "I killed some homeless guys. Uuuhhhhh, maybe five or ten!"

"And Paul Allen. I KILLED Paul. Allen. His body is dissolving in a bathtub in hell's kitchen!"

"Why do you have copies of the style section on your floor. Do you have a little chow or something?

"No Allen!"

That cut to his face with that line makes me laugh my ass off. And for God's sake the moon walk and the little dance.

I mean come on!

"HEY, PAUL!"

I agree about Bale being more of a character actor than a full on movie star.

Like Brad Pitt, he's a character actor trapped in a leading mans body.

That's a pretty spot-on comparison.

And I would kill to see Bale do a romantic comedy. Not that I love romcoms, I'm just curious to see what he'd be like.

Yep, that movie is hilarious. Cracks me up every time. 80's yuppy Wall Street guys. The business card scene is classic. The look on Bale's face when the other dude pulls out a better card than his...:hehe:

Maybe not a romcom, but just a flat-out comedy.

AP is definitely Bale's best non-Batman movie although I really enjoyed 3:10 To Yuma and felt Harsh Times is an underrated film.

Closest he's ever gotten was Little Women. Watched it to see his performance.

Sat down and actually watched this last night. It was some crazy s**t going on in this movie. i don't know why, but I expected more. Was a good movie, though. Guess I'm gonna go play the game now.

I think it definitely deserves a re-watch. Give it a few weeks and pop it back in. I pretty much fell in love w/it when I saw it in the theater but it still took multiple viewings to let all the bat-s*** crazy wash over me and the film to really come into focus.

My one critique of it is also the most ridiculous: I'd never read the book or really knew much about it before seeing the movie so I had no idea that Bateman was the author riffing on Tom Cruise. After learning that, I totally wanted to see a bit of that in Christian Bale's performance, as he never really pulls off (or even goes for) the "too nice to not be a raging homicidal maniac" vibe that always struck me about Tom (not that he's a homicidal maniac, but that anyone who acts that nice all the time must have a dark side).

Bale's Bateman is basically a dick through and through and you more or less wonder why anyone even likes him, but that's part of the film's charm: no one is even paying attention enough to the guy to see that he's actually clearly an ***hole. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to return some video tapes....

Wow, oddly enough I was actually watching some of this movie last night. Bale's dry humor delivered by his straight as can be face is priceless.

And yeah the first time I saw this I liked it, but wasn't crazy about it. It wasn't until I bought the Blu Ray for five bucks and watched it where I really fell in love with it. Now it's one of my favorite movies, and my favorite Bale performance.

Brilliant black comedy and an absolute tour-de-force from Bale in which he's both equally chilling and hilarious. Somehow I struggle to imagine AP helmed by Stone and starring DiCaprio as being as good.

DiCaprio wouldn't have really fit. Especially if you can imagine the tone and direction Harron went with. As someone who looks more manly, especially younger, the idea of this sort of man child who wants to "fit in" is better felt across in the performance than DiCaprio who still looks young, especially when this movie was made.

And if it would have been anything like Natural Born Killers then :barf:

NBK is my favorite film ever so don't you blaspheme it's name in my presence! Lol

Anyways, I consider this film a classic. Loved it the first time I saw and watched it dozens of times there after with friends n stuff. Now of course since I've become a much more dedicated (and self educated) cinephile I've really come to appreciate the true nature of it's brilliance. As a kid it was just "Hahaha this movie is messed up!! Awesome!" Now, it's more like "Wow, what a brilliant black satire."

And btw I think that now Dicaprio would have killed this role, back then maybe not so much. He was still young when he tried to get this made.

He's roughly the same age as Bale.

Watching this film had me rooting for Bale to be the joker in a batman film then they go and cast him as batman.

There's no one else who could have played Bateman. Bale was perfect for the role.

First time I saw this, in 2007 or early 2008, I thought it was good. Didn't quite get the big deal.

Felt compelled to watch it again a few weeks, maybe a month later. F*****G LOVED IT. Myself and a couple of friends quote it constantly. Such a funny movie.

This is a classic film. So quotable. It's a bingo.

^ :pal:

This movie is responsible for making me giggle every time i hear Huey Lewis or Phil Collins playing on the radio :oldrazz:
