I don't think that Gwen needs a huge role in this film, but it would be great to keep consistency and have maybe Gwen become part of core of friends.

Gwen will never have the same role in the films, as she did in the movies, but is still a key character from the lure of Spider-Man and should be kept around. Plus, if she was willing to be in T4, a movie she maybe has 4 minutes of screen time, no doubt she would likely take a smaller role from SM3 and be in SM4.

I assume you meant to say she will never have the same role in the films as she did in the comics, and that's exactly why I think she ought to be left out of part 4.

Just because the name Gwen Stacy has weight to it when you're talking about Spider-Man isn't enough justification to have her there. Gwen is important because of what her death does to Peter. That can't be conveyed in the films, so won't her continued appearance just stray further from established continuity?

Well to be fair it wasn't just her . The film already had too many characters and her character was nothing more then a plot device as someone stated. I think they need to trim the fat for S4 and focus on the core characters I.e. Peter, MJ, Aunt May and the Villian .
