And the new Punisher is...

they should of gone with Ray Stevenson Rome co-star James Purefoy atlest he looks like Thomas Jane a bit.

i think ray stevenson can have a good max punisher look...big and rugged looking.

I managed to catch an episode of Rome the other night, and this guy can act, he has that strange combination of being a ruthless yet sympathetic at the same time which is essential for the Punisher IMO.

Saying that, i still wish TJ was coming back.

Just say no. Haven't we learned anything from the Batman franchise? Recasting title characters in these movies doesn't work!

If Jane is out, move on to another Marvel Property. There are many to choose from.

Problem being, that is the only one Lion's gate has.

I held my breath, hoping the sequel wouldn't be made without Tom Jane, I became a huge fan of his from The Punisher. I've never watched Rome, my friend does and he loves the show, so I know nothing of this new guy.
Yeah, he does have the rough punisher look, so that's promising, the fact he can act is even more promising. Seeing a new actor in to portray Punisher hurts but I can't wait to see how they do it. It's like getting over your ex-girlfriend and then you meet a new girl at a party and think... hmmm, this could be good. I'll give this guy a chance, I just beg that they go with a Rated R version and no stupid jokes! Get serious damnit!

Not necessarily true.

Two words: CHRISTIAN BALE.

He would have been a good choice too. But I look forward to Stevenson and how he'll take on the role. I really see him as being more of the MAX Punisher in the sequel.

No thank you. Since they HAD to cast someone different I'm glad that it's someone COMPLETELY different who will bring something new to the character rather than just an imitation of Thomas Jane. If they just wanted someone to be Thomas Jane Jr. than at his absolute best he could only be AS good as Jane. Stevenson, on the other hand, has the potential to be better.

Why do people on Youtube choose the most annoying rock songs for the background music?

Eh. Better than that MCR, Good Charlotte, Yellowcard, Linkin Park stuff that they usually play which is just...all kinds of innapropiate for action scenes.

What I like about this guy is he reminds me a lot of Vinnie Jones who I wanted for The Punisher in the first place (if he could pull off an American or at least Brooklyn accent). This guy is big, rough, gritty, powerful, and intimidating and that's what The Punisher needs. People mistake this guy for being a giant for christ's sake and the response everybody almost always has is "I thought he'd be bigger". His presence gives off that much that people get the idea that he's huge.

Any script that scares off the returning star of the franchise and multiple directors can't have a lot going for it, to be honest.

I thought that before too. However Im thinking maybe Jane is being a cry baby because he's a new star, and he wants his Taxi Driver movie. Remember isnt this how LXG was ruined and stopped the career of the great Stephen Norrington because Sean Connery had to have his film???

Hey ObakeTora, I'm with you in that this guy looks the part (can't wait for the teaser trailer). In Jane's Interview (the one AD posted) he never said the scipt sucks, just that he wanted Taxi Driver and Lionsgate wanted to go in a different direction. He also said it breaks his heart no longer being part of the Punisher 2. I think they just pissed him off and he had to walk away no matter how bad he wanted to play Castle. But in my opinion he should have waited and compromised, because they didn't want to replace him. We have to remember are we Punisher fans first or Tom Jane fans first? Just like I loved Michael Keaton as Batman, I also loved Christian Bale in Batman Begins. We have to move on and hope Ray kicks so much ass that we will say damn now that's the f ukn Punisher. Plus they have two very good writers tweaking the script. :unishr:

You have a very good point. I like Tom Jane so much, but I'm a bigger Punisher fan than anything. I like Keaton as Batman, but like Bale even more, so maybe I'll give this a chance and wait and see and not bash it so much right now. This guy could make it an all new ballgame in Hollywood for the Punisher. I'll make my choice when I see the first full trailer and hear him talk.
He doesn't look to bad in the manips people are showing. I'd still prefer Tom Jane, but since he walked away and isn't coming back then I guess, I just need to accept it and move on.

I've got hope that this script is going to get fixed. Ray looks the part. Whether he can play it convincingly, I don't know, yet.

I don't know. Didn't really bother me, I was just lowered the music to watch the video.

i agree. i've never seen rome but those clips definitely made me want to.

You should. It really is a great show. It's funny how I watched it, and all of a sudden Stevenson is cast as the Punisher.

That's an awesome manip.

no thomas jane is really going to suck i think, but no travolta will be good too

^In that manip he definately looks the part, though he needs to work out a little, he will probably look perfect once he has hit the gym.

I'll give the new guy a chance and hope that the sequel will be awesome :woot:.

That being said, i don't know why a lot of people are so quick to bash thomas jane. i too am disappointed that he's gone, but what's done is done. i suppose the punisher fan interprets his leaving as an act of treachery or something. as for having his own agenda and the whole taxi driver thing, i recall that when it was time to stand up to lionsgate, demanding a sequel and writing in about what it should be like, a lot of fans mentioned the taxi driver film among one of the many movies they liked and how the punisher sequel should be in the vein of films like that. so however thomas jane interpreted that, it seemed like he was just trying to back the fans and make a movie that would appeal to them. and the fans turn around and call him an *******. sucks for him.

Got that right. But that’s the hard core fans for you (too hard core actually). They either want too much or they can never make up their minds on anything and they change it very, very quickly. And looking around here... it's hard to believe that anyone even liked the 2004 Punisher movie or even liked Tom as the Punisher.

And some people seem to think that it's just script problems. That Tom should have just stayed with it. But it’s also seems to be about the film's budget. They were barely able to do what they were given the first time and Lionsgate isn’t going to give them more money in order to make the second one better. That's the trouble they gave Jonathan Hensleigh. In the first movie most of Hensleigh's original script had to be edited and re-written many times due to budget costs.

JOHN: "But then when I really started thinking about what it was and the fact that the studio kind of didn't want to spend a whole lot of money, it was like "Do I want to do an action movie in 40 days? With a massive second unit?" And the script was not that good."
