And the new Punisher is...

Kick ass casting! I gotta say, this gained my interest in Punisher 2. I really liked his work in Rome, this guy is a great actor, and kicks ass in physical roles. If anyone has doubts catch the last 5 episodes of Rome.

I think after he plays Frank, people are going to ask "Thomas Jane was too pretty, they should've cast this guy!"

Very nice...and yes bloody. Hopefully that video will stay up cause it's a good example. Guy looks like a badass.

He is a damn good actor as well, you can see it in Rome. He can be a very sensitive soft spoken father figure type, and screaming raving tounge biting-off psycho who would rip your arm off and beat you to death with it.

Great, inspired casting that will hopefully draw in old-school Punisher fans, since he looks more like the old Mike Zeck Frank.

One thing I know is this script has more violence and more action and more "punishment" than the 1st film. We'll find out more about that soon. The public find out more at the comic-con.

I'm more curious as to what Pullo- I mean Stevenson's American accent will sound like. Being a HUGE fan of "Rome," I know that he kicks ass, but I wonder what he'll sound like.

From that one video his accent doesn't sound too thick at all. I think he could disguise it well enough...I guess we'll see.

I'm sure it's fine. They wouldn't have hired him if it wasn't.

They hamstring the first flick with a subpar budget, then drag out the sequel forever....until Jane leaves. WTF? Then they sign this guy?

This is unhappy news.

Um, Lionsgate didn't make the movie. Artisan did. Heck, even the teaser trailer had their logo on it. Lionsgate took over Artisan and got the rights to two comic flicks in the can--The Punisher and Man-Thing. And in a recent interview (months back), the director said the budget was like 12-18 million, and not 33.

People need to stop whining. Thomas Jane turned The Punisher into an emo ***** in the first film. People saying Ray Stevenson is "weak" or "not as close to Frank Castle as Thomas Jane" obviously haven't seen "Rome":

I really hated the last film. Casting Stevenson in the sequel has actually given me some hope.

EDIT: Also, I don't care if he's "old" and "fat". Frank Castle should look like a grizzled veteran rather than a Hollywood pretty-boy.

No you are misquoting him. The "shooting budget" was 17 million and 16 millon more went to the paychecks. :) That's always lumped into the budget Hensleigh was just pointing out he only had 17 million to actually shoot the film.

Thanks for the clip, because I was like who the f is this guy? Just like everyone said when they cast Jane. This guy IMO is going to kick ass and own the role, regardless if the movie is weak. He doesn't even have to say anything and he's already intimidating, awesome casting but who's Jigsaw?:yay:

He looks alot more intimidating then Jane does IMO

It can still be shelved afterwards. I'm hoping for that. It's going to take a lot to get me into this movie. It needs some serious wow factor for me to get behind it.

Jesus Christ how about you either just watch it or don't, just stop whining about it.

Marvel will get back the rights eventually, but for right now I'm very curious to see what Lexi Alexander and Ray Stevenson are going to bring to the character. As long as this film has lots of blood and violence then it's A-OK with me.

It can't be shelved if LGF wants to hold the rights. Tom Jane is gone it's time to move on and hope that this is a good film. I too want Marvel to get the rights back but it doesn't appear to be happening and LGF obviously values the rights. They didn't get them cheaply as it's an equity deal with Marvel Studios and Marvel gets 1/2 the profits.

I have to agree, and besides im sure this guy is a good actor but he just simply DOES NOT Look like The Punisher... He doesn't have the look at all but then again neither did Dolph or Tomas... I have officially lost all interest in the Punisher franchise, and would rather have them not make another sequel, and just re-boot again in 10 years.

I do think guy is a good actor, he was really good in Arthur and he is big and intimidating, but IMO, Jane owned the role, and its a shame he couldnt be back and RS was cast as Jigsaw instead.

I think it's a very inspired casting choice in the same way as Daniel Craig as James Bond, Christian Bale as Batman, and Edward Norton as Bruce Banner.

Havent seen enough of him, but he was good in KA, but a bit old for The Punisher isnt he?

I think him being old is one of the best things about the casting choice. The Punisher SHOULD be old. I always imagined him as a grizzled veteran in the Dirty Harry vein. He shouldn't be played by some young Hollywood pretty-boy.

I'm entitled to my opinion and I'm going to voice my opinion. You don't like it, piss off!

Meh. This sequel should be scrapped.

In a summer of disappointments, this doesn't really add a plus or minus. This movie is being made- low budget and all- regardless if the script is hokey or if Jane is replaced. I'm pretty emotionless over the choice. He looks and sounds like a good actor, but none of the news coming out reflect the signs of a good movie. Good actors have been in bad movies.

Oh well. Lionsgate seems determined on making films that aren't in the horror genre without half of the possible effort. Guess we'll just have to wait and see how it turns out.
