The Force Awakens Andy Serkis as Supreme Leader Snoke - Part 1

Discussion for all things regarding Snoke.

I would prefer it if he was beyond using a lightsaber. If he and Luke go at it, I want it to be a Force fight.

I was quite disappointed with Snoke.

Although it feels like there is much more to his cause and will develop in time. Something was lacking, for me anyway.

A Jedi wont produce force lightning. It requires too much hate and its a perversion of the Force. Same goes for every other dark side offensive attack.

Force push and pull and other stuff like that is about all a Jedi would be able to do in a force fight without tapping into the darkside. Luke could use the force to throw stuff at Snoke but aside from that what can he really do in a Force battle? Snoke would have the upper hand by a wide margin because he would be willing to use lightning and other dark side force powers. And if Luke did try to throw things at Snoke or choke him Snoke would just counter it. And if Snoke tried to hit Luke with lightning he would either be hurt like he was in ROTJ or he would deflect or absorb it like Yoda did in AOTC.

In terms of characterization I think he's fine. A mysterious looming villain like the Emperor. He just felt out of place in a movie that emphasizes practical effects.

He's a token Emperor stand-in. Like almost the entire movie, he's there as a placeholder for the real juicy stuff that will undoubtedly come with Ep8. I'm not at all impressed with his design or Andy's acting. Again, like I've said in other threads, way overhyped in real life.

With the talk of him being 50ft tall, I'm sure once we see him in the flesh he will be of actual height thus not being a giant.

I'm only assuming this due to when Vader communicated with Palpatine in Empire, so guess we'll find out soon enough. Maybe he is Plagueis.

For those who are on the Plagueis train, the movie does nothing to disprove it. But that's not to encourage them. Evidence is still highly against that scenario.

Snoke was one of the big cons of TFA for me. Just... meh.

It is very weird how similar the snoke theme is to that music you hear after palpertine mentions plagueis in episode 3

Coincidence?

So is Snoke really that big or is the hologram compensating his size?

We dunno. I'm honestly cool either way. The former gives us something we've never seen before and undoubtedly impressive if he's ever to face off against the heroes, but the latter gives us something more classical and, frankly, easier way to stage the conflict (should it happen).

They were very clever about his scenes. Lots of questions.

Well, let's just say the Emperor wasn't a giant floating head in ROTJ, so yeah, hologram shenanigans for me.

Serkis said that about the character:

"“Supreme Leader Snoke is quite an enigmatic character, and strangely vulnerable at the same time as being quite powerful,” Serkis says. “Obviously he has a huge agenda. He has suffered a lot of damage. As I said, there is a strange vulnerability to him, which belies his true agenda, I suppose.”

While Abrams has emphasized a return to practical effects on The Force Awakens, is Snoke perhaps a character who could have been played by Serkis in make-up?

“No, no,” the actor says. “The
scale of him, for instance, is one reason. He is large. He appears tall.
And also just the facial design – you couldn’t have gotten there with prosthetics. It’s too extreme. Without giving too much away at this point, he has a very distinctive, idiosyncratic bone structure and facial structure. You could never have done it [in real life.]”"

Do you guys think Snoke wants Rey to replace Kylo?

I believe so, but that may be too Sith-like. Then again Snoke only wanted Kylo because [BLACKOUT]of his parentage, probably.[/BLACKOUT]

So is that how he looks or was it just a big hologram of him? Personally I didn't care for him at all, just a big, very obvious CGI thing that felt like it was from Harry Potter.

I'm so curious who or what Snoke really is, along with the Knights of Ren.
Episode 8 will be a long wait.... Again.
