Annihilation Conquest

Annihilation: Conquest #4
Ha! By the Force, I'm so awesome!!

Oh please be hiding a giant mecha under that throne, Ronan.
Not just one quasi-giant mecha, but an army!

This series rolls along, and even though -- with two issues left -- it never...quite...touches the apex that its predecessor has established, it's carving a pretty steady path for itself nonetheless. Every character adds a little something here, but the breakous are probably (and obviously) Team Star-Lord. I'm kind of starting to think that Lanning has never actually seen a raccoon in his life, though I'm looking forward to RR's "plan B." On the other side of the spectrum, Warlock and Quasar seem to have the plotline that'll carry the most significance for the series as a whole, but I'm having trouble caring that much about Adam, here...his personality is just so generic. Will Ronan be even more badass in upcoming issues? Time will tell; he's planning to obliterate his own people, sure, but he could be really badass at it.

(8.3 out of 10)

Dude, stop calling Sentries mecha. They're American, ergo they're just giant ****ing robots, not mecha. Mecha means they'd have to have convoluted, overly intricate designs and some kind of transforming arm that fires rockets or some ****.

What, you mean like Ultron?

Just wait. Seriously, just wait for this Sentry army to merge into one giant being.

How else are they going to fight the giant Ultron-Phalanx merge? Trust me, it'll be very Evangelion.

****ing Evangelion. I hate that series because it was so good and then it decided to just be bleak and nonsensical and make me hate all the characters. :(

Ah, Evangelion. . .

How many times did I want to decapitate that Asuka. . . oh, the times. . .

I loved Asuka when she was obnoxious and mean. Bluster can be fun on some characters, especially when they're used to play off of utterly impotent or aloof characters like Shinji and Rei, respectively.

I "loved" Asuka when she was comatose in the hospital.

GAWD, that movie.

So what, you're trying to say there's something un-American about the Kree? :o

I have enjoyed the whole A:Conquest event (prologue, pre-minis, Conquest) so far. In fact, I like it better than the original Annihilation. I just never got the feeling of Annihilus being that serious of a threat...

The last 2 issues have been a tad bit slow, considering how fast everything else before it has moved. Hopefully the last 2 issues will pick up quickly, and since the last issue of this series is a 48 pager!?! it should sew everything up nicely.

So we should just call the 'Mechs? Mechwarrior style? Jap-Mecha, Yank-Mechs?

Yeah, I was expecting some kind of Nega Bomb.

Me too, kind of.

Still, even if AC so far is running a steady B grade compared to ANNIHILATION's grade of A, that's hardly an underachievement in my eyes.

Ultron in some ways is a cooler villain than Annihilus was, given that he had higher rep to begin with before ANNIHILATION (Cho nekkid boobies notwithstanding). ANNIHILATION simply had a stronger cast of heroes and takes on them. Warlock is an awkward sub for Nova, Wraith pales next to Drax, and Phyla got very mopey. Still, I am enjoying the hell out of it, and it is a compelling sci fi thrillride.

Giant ****in' robots it is. How then would you classify the ever lovable Transformers?

Owing much of their storied history and iconography to both Japan and North America, either term is applicable in their case. However, being far more of a fan of Beast Wars and Simon Furman's work on their comics, I would stick with giant ****in' robots.

Uh-huh. I'm not too big on Furman's stuff (making giant ****ing robots more complicated is a debatable move) but I agree that TF progressed more under Yankee supervision. I prefer "Optimus Prime" over "Convoy" any day.

Crud...I couldn't pick up AC this week. Might as well hit the shop next week when Nova Annual #1 ships. Hows Gamer Rejects treating you Corp?
