Ant-Man Ant-Man Casting Thread

I know I'm going to be flamed for saying this, but I'm actually liking the idea of having Paul Rudd for Hank Pym.

The geek in me wants to see Simon Pegg brought in by his ol' buddy Edgar to play Pym; granted, it's a little left of field in favour of a more 'conventional' choice but Pegg's a fantastic actor [you can tell that I re-watched Hot Fuzz last night, eh?].

Although saying that, Pegg's gone on record to say that he'd actually prefer to play the villain.

I'd prefer him as the villain myself. Would be a good change for him to play a bad guy.

He probably wouldn't take the role anyway if he was offered it. I get the feeling he is one those actors not really interested in superhero or big budget movies.

Possibly. I've never heard him in contention for any of them either. The biggest thing he was in contention for was that aborted Paradise Lost flick.

I like Paul Rudd but I can only see him as Paul Rudd. I have to see him become the character he has portrayed.

Aaron Paul was asked about superhero movie roles in an interview and said if he was going to do one he would like to play a supervillain.

Aaron Paul is one of the actors I REALLY want to see in the MCU. I personally can't see him as a villain, but I can definitely see him as an antihero. I could see him as Ghost Rider or something if they ever decided to reboot it.

Nathan Fillion has said for about the thirtieth time he doesn't want to play Ant-Man.
"IGN: It's really interesting, because it is so consistent. We tweeted out that we were coming here today and of course the first question that was asked was, 'Will he be Ant-Man?'

Fillion: [Laughs] I will not be playing Ant-Man. I'm pretty booked-up right now as far as work goes and there's so much more going on in the entertainment industry than just, 'Oh, you know who would be great in that?' There's a lot more that comes into play. There's a lot of variables that a fan does not have to concern themselves with. If they want to see a movie and they want that actor, they're not thinking about the variables that come into play. But there are a lot of variables that don't make it a real possibility."

I actually feel sorry for the guy constantly getting hounded about this even though he has said multiple times over the years he isn't interested.

If people are really fans of his they will stop bothering him about it all the time.

I actually thought of someone earlier and it finally hit me so this might be just out of the blue when I say this; Jason Lee as Hank Pym. I know you're probably thinking like "Why Earl?" He's actually quite the versatile actor he can show some charisma and seriousness at the time (Watch Memphis Beat). I don't know why but somehow, he made me thought of him as Ant man. Plus he's young enough to carry a franchise.

not against it, prefer someone younger, i'd love Jason Lee to voice Ghost in an IM movie

Don't know how I feel about Hammer for Pym but I trust Edgar.

Hammer has proven with The Social Network that he's very talented, very excited to see him in Lone Ranger, and let's not forget he was set to play Batman in Miller's Justice League.

I have a good long list of people I'd have picked but never considered AH. He's solid though. I wouldn't nerdrage.

Hey, outside the box is what it's all about. Gotta use your imagination. I could see it.

As long as he's not ****ing playing Batman, then I'm cool with it. He'd be fine as Antman

Paul Rudd is too laid back for Ant Man... Someone is needed that obsessed with bugs. Like, he's lacking in social skills he's devoted so much to science. Don't do that to Rudd he's a good comic actor. Armie Hammer? Thatd probably be interesting to see him mixing it up with RDJ.... Yeah they'res gonna be some division when you bring the team together again, always should be. It'll lose way too much if it just becomes super friends living at the mansion fighting evil wherever it lurks

Ant-Man Director Edgar Wright Also Denies the Armie Hammer Rumors

By: Russ Burlingame on June 25, 2013

Perhaps the director of Marvel Studios’s upcoming Ant-Man film feels the playful way The Lone Ranger‘s Armie Hammer toyed with reporters while denying any involvement in the film wasn’t quite strong enough.
In any case, Wright took to Twitter earlier today to join in the choir of disapproval, telling fans that not only has Hammer not been seen with him on the set of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but that Wright has neither met Hammer nor been to the set.
“But… I haven’t been on the Cap 2 set…Or met Mr. Hammer…I am pretty sure I have been in a dark room in London this whole time,” tweeted the director.
While that sounds pretty definitive to us, expect the conspiracy theories to continue on a bit longer as fans and the press in Cleveland try to figure out just why it was that everyone was so convinced they’d seen Wright there in the first place. After all, some people will undoubtedly reason, why would he lie about a set visit unless this were in fact true? Unless photos of Wright on set turn up, we’d say to ignore all that gossip for the next few days until the dust clears.
Wright’s talents were last put to use directing a single shot in J.J. Abrams’s Star Trek Into Darkness earlier this year. His next film, The World’s End, will be in theaters on August 23.

I wonder if Edgar had a chat with Whedon who was in London the other week?
