Ant-Man Ant-Man Casting Thread

I just saw, on another site, someone post NPH as Ant-Man.

And by god, I like it.
As Hank *or* Scott. NPH is my new fan frontrunner.

Who?

And I can wasp.

I am a 20 year old man. But I can do it.

I can.

I can do it.

:woot:

Yeah, Neil Patrick Harris could actually play Hank. He certainly could pull off the intelligent scientist type, and certainly would have enough charisma for the role. And if people think he could only do comedy, did anyone see his turn in Law & Order:Criminal Intent as the shy, socially awkward man who desired connection with other women so much (because he was constantly rejected) that he resorted to drilling a hole in their brain and filling it with fluid, and then eating their calf muscle?

It was a world away from Barney Stinson and was a pretty moving performance.

The only problem is that if he plays Hank like Barney, he's going to end up like another RDJ with this super confident, quick-talking womanising scientist. Now I'm sure the audiences would love that, and it certainly would add to the popularity of the character, but is that really Hank? To which I answer "no".

He'd have to be almost unrecognizable though, because he's become way too much of a pop culture thing.

Watch this video with NPH on Criminal Intent:

Or here if it doesn't work http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_V0WhFXTCkI

It's a completely different performance from Barney Stinson with NPH acting against Vincent D'Onofrio. I definitely think he would have the acting chops for Hank or Scott.

The Dawson! That's right, Vanderbeak or whatever his name is looks kinda like he could play Hank.

I like Patrick Wilson and all, but neither Hank Pym or Scott Lang look or act anything like Dan Dreiberg. Or Clark Griswold, for that matter.

Pym *and* Lang are both studly. Not dudley.

He doesn't always look like that. He looked that way for the movie because he was portraying that type of character.

He more frequently looks like this and plays this type of role:

Now are you telling me that women wouldn't find that studly?

I really do like Patrick Wilson in everything I've seen him in. Also, I'm about 90% certain he's won some acting awards (a Tony?) I'd approve of him as Pym.

I'm sure he's been brought up before, and maybe his DC connection might preclude him from either Pym or Lang, but I suddenly got a hankerin' for Aaron Eckhart as Pym.

Sure.
And that's a good picture to sell him as any version of Ant-Man. Dan Dreiberg as a selling point: not so much. :yay:

Patrick has done a great job playing a variety of different characters. I've said it before I would love him as Pym. Just for the fact of seeing him work with the Avengers cast. He already worked with Sam Jackson. He doesn't normally due comic book movies though. Watchmen was an exception due to the importance of the graphic novel.

In the end of they can make Pym the interesting character he is in the comics it might get his attention.

An actor should jump at a chance to play Pym.so many layers

although NPH is a great actor, he does not have the build for Pym
Pym should be more in shape with RDJ rather than Norton...not too lean but has shape
NPH is too lean

I think Jason Segal would make an excellent Ant-Man, Always felt Henry Pymm was a character that needed to be portrayed by a comedic yet dramtic actor that has probably stared in a few rom-coms. Bit like how Ruffalo was cast as the Hulk, i think Segal would be the perfect fit for it.

As his wife (Janet) i would cast someone along the lines of shawne smith not sure if thats how you spell her name, the girl who was jigsaws assistant in the Saw movies.

Jason Segel is 6'4" and would end up being taller than Thor and Cap. I don't think he is suitable for Pym at all either.

Not if he was shrunken to a half inch tall! Hehe. But yeah, I don't see a guy like Jason Segel pulling off being a supergenius scientist while among the likes of RDJ, Ed Norton Mark Ruffalo, or Erik Selvig--especially if they've established Pym as one of Selvig's old colleagues.

His acting as Dreiberg as a selling point, all the way. He nailed it.

Of course he absolutely nailed Dreiberg.
I was saying that I don't want to see Ant-Man portrayed as a Dan Dreiberg. Because he (Hank, Scott or Eric) is nothing like Dan Dreiberg.

Although Jason Segel plays a lawyer in HIMYM, he doesn't come off as naturally intelligent as someone like Neil Patrick Harris, or even Josh Radnor. They both give off more of an intelligent, cerebral and cultured vibe, even in the way they speak.
