Comics ASM #547 (spoilers)

Yeah... I missed it initially, but saw it once I read your post... nice touch.

I hope we see more...

And I suspect that we'll always feel that Robbie "knows"... also another missed touch.

Slott is hitting a home run thus far, I hope the other writers can keep pace...

:yay:

Aloha,
We now have fan favorite writers and artist on Amazing.I was impressed with Slott's first two issues regarding continuity and supporting cast.Question: How much influence did the Gathering of Five(#441) have on the next 100 plus issues of Amazing? As much as we may HATE the whole Mephisto insanity-I don't think that Marvel has any plans to age Peter for the next 20 years. In time, Mephisto may become as much a factor as The Gathering of Five.

I don't know people. This BND is better than I thought it will be. It's like Stan Lee all over again. I love the new direction, and my sadness over OMD is slowly fading away. This is the Spider-Man i love reading. Although OMD wasn't needed to get here, I can't compain because the stories are great. Dan Slott is rreally a great Spidey writer. I just hope the other writers are just as good.

That's great to hear :yay:

I'm glad a few people are slowly coming around. Because to be honest over the past coulpe of days i've been contemplating whether to withdraw from these boards all together! The negativity of the anti-BND crowd was beginning to spoil my enjoyment of this great new era. :csad:

Well, I think the general sentiment, (and this is my personal feeling) is one of wariness.

I mean, over the past few years we've had some pretty crappy Spidey stories. So then Joe Q says he's going to fix it all with one big story (even though the thing he wanted to fix the most wasn't by far the worst thing wrong with Spidey) ......and Joe's big story to fix everything...is also crap.

I mean, when I think "great spidey story" I don't think of "making deals with the devil" as one of the highlights.

So while, yes BND is good, I think most people view it as a brief light point before the oncoming of more crap. At least that's how I've viewed it. Joe Q's run is basically defined as "lots of big stupid "life-changing event" stories that suck, with a few good story arcs here and there."

Right now, I'm not letting myself get excited about BND because I'm see it as only another one of those "few good story arcs" that pop up here and there before Joe Q comes riding in with another crappy "life changing event."

Basically, I'm like a dog that's been kicked too many times. Don't expect me to come eat food from your hand because you've kicked me in the face every other time I've walked up to you.

I really really hope that you're wrong. They have a good thing going here with BND, and life-changing events won't do any good. I guess as long as Wacker and great writers are around, and sales are great, life-changing events won't cross Joe Q's mind.

I can understand your hesitance to get excited over this Brand New Day. After all the disappointments there have been.

But in regards to Joe Q coming along with another "life changing event"... I only ask you to consider this: It won't happen! Not only do we know that the Spidey brain-trust has the next year and a half worth of stories mapped out. But also think about it; This is where Joe Q has been wanting to get Spidey for the past five years! This is it now. The dust can settle and we can get back to Spidey having the soap-opera quality that's been so sorely missed, rather than a chain of bad-to-worse life changing events.

Seriously. It's here. Enjoy it. You don't have to like the road taken to get here. But come on, life's too short not to enjoy this great new era while we can.

Go on, give in. Let yourself be excited over Spider-Man again. :yay:

I read it in my local store before putting it back on the rack. Peter looks pretty, and that's all I can say right now. Maybe I'll pull out my other Spidey books to see where the scenes match something I've seen before.

I completely forgot to mention this, after the first time I read #547. But did anyone notice that hanging on the wall in Jameson's Office there was the same front page featuring Doc Ock that they used in the second and third Spider-Man films!! :word:

I remember seeing the picture but I didn't put 2 and 2 together, nice catch. I'm a little late on this one but did anyone notice in ASM #546 when Peter and Carlie get held up by the mugger Peter thinks to himself that he "could pretend it's karate" or something to that effect, which, to me, is a nod to the "drug issues" where Peter beats up the drug pushers who sold LSD to Harry and before doing so he says "I hope they think I'm doing karate." I think it's ASM #98.

Yeah, I noticed that, too.

Anyone think Pete should just try to contact Mephisto to see what he could do to help JJJ? :D

Makes perfectly good sense to me. Pete doesn't wanna feel responsible for JJ's death does he!?

Well everyone seems to hate this and from what I read I'm glad I quit reading this crap.

And as stated in the beginning of this thread, Joe Q's a moron.

I hate Marvel now, they ruined everything. Stupid Quesada said they erased the marriage 'cause it got confusing, no it didn't his dumb stories were confusing. Get rid of Quesada. He's the one that needs to be erased.

They ruined spidey. Those idiots!:cmad:

Didn't they try and get a whole new Spider-Woman series out of it, with the annoying girl Mattie that lived with J.J.J. If it wasn't for that uscking so bad we may have heard a lot more about the Gathering of Five.

i agree that joey q should be 86ed

So after hearing about this issue, and issue #548, I'm left wondering where these stories that only a single SMino could star in are.
What? MJ would have prevented him from getting mugged by a hobo? Get real.

Actually, most people seem to be enjoying it. It's the people who aren't reading BND that seem to hate it.

Don't know about "most", but what did you expect? Of course the people not reading it are going to hate it. That's why they aren't reading it. Why would they read a book they don't like?

Exactly. Hate all you want of certain past stories... But every single person/internet review/comment loves BND who have read it.

Sadly every seems to still have a bad taste in their mouth of many recent events, (myself included.)

You know what though? I can happily live with the new status quo, EXCEPT for the fact that Joe Q DID NOT allow ANYONE to erase the Gwen/Norman children.

I feel bad for JMS, he seemed SO pissed that he was stuck withthis over him, and Joe Q TOLD him he could erase the story from continuity originally!

Oh well, I have BIG faith in the current Spidey brain trust. They've also gone on record SEVERAL times that they have NO PLANS to do the whole 'life changing events,' stuff, and they're down for giving us great old fashionied Spider-Man!

Huzzah!

Actually, it's people who HAVEN'T read it and are judging it.

Also, a lot people are just trying to hate for all the recent stuff, which while I can understand it to some extent, I think is so unfair on the current guys.

Come on people! At the end of the day it's a freakin' comic book!

Look, I personally own over 5000+ comics, so yea, I'm an obssessive fan boy, but even I know wher to draw the line!:word:

Unfortunately, they hate it even though many have not tried it.

I've applauded a few around here whom I know at least bought and read the first part, and they just didn't like it. That's fine... I can appreciate the effort.

However, the incessant put-downs to a book nobody has even given the time of day is getting quite prosaic and annoying.

I didn't dislike it per se....I just didn't really care...which I think is probably worse :(

But you at least made the effort to try it... and in the end, that's all that counts.

By the way, if you ever have a chance to read the second part in a store or something, you'll find it far more entertaining than the first one, which seemed crammed in some places.

:yay:

I'll read em all my friend....(never read part 2 yet but I am going for groceries tonight :) )....which is why I think this belief that only people "not reading it" are hating it is pretty suspect.....the haters are reading it...they just aren't buying it.....

To sum my view up

OMD = Hate
BND as an extension of OMD = Hate
BND stand alone = Indifferent

Captain America = Still the best durn comic out there!!!

Of course they aren't going to give the new guys a chance. Haven't you heard the old saying, "a spoiled apple ruins the bunch" or "You're going to ruin it for everybody"? How can any of us read this new stuff with the premise that was given for it in OMD? How can long term fans just ignore the fact that Spider-man now makes deals with the devil for purely selfish reasons and can never develope as a character? Why not drop the book when the guy we're reading about is still the same guy but only in name only? The instant the retcon happened, with how it happened, everyone who dropped the book were completely justified, especially since OMD was solid proof that agendas can be passed off as stories now a days.
