The Amazing Spider-Man ASM Blu-ray: Most Wanted Features and Extras - Part 1

So this blu-ray blows the Avengers blu-ray outta the water. WHY couldn't we have gotten a 90-min making-of doc on that one?

Because Disney aren't interested in making extras.

Picture Quality
ASM - 5/5
Avengers 3/5

Sound Quality
ASM - 5/5
Avengers 3/5

Extras
ASM - 4/5
Avengers 1/5

Movie (imho)
ASM 4/5
Avengers 3/5

Just watched the deleted scenes. No question inserting some of those scenes and removing a couple of scenes would have enhanced the movie. I will say though some of those scenes needed to be cut not because of running time but because of repetition with other scenes that exist.

Yep, for example I didn't really need to see that short segment of Rajit Ratha watching Connor's clip.

I agree with all except I thought the picture quality of The Avengers was top notch as well but besides that yeah I agree completely with you

What? The Avengers had almost perfect video and audio... don't know what picture you're looking at....

When I'm talking about Avengers picture quality and audio quality I'm talking in comparison to ASM rather than in general.

Okay, I know it's been answered, but I forget where it was posted. How can I download the second screen app for my mac?

I watched ASM on Bluray 2D last night. Wow. The PQ is absolutely stunning...really amazing (no pun). Blacks are deep and even, colors are not glossed over, with rich depth and no washing out near the edges, and the immense detail is just beautiful. The PQ is easily up there with many of the best PQ Blurays out there, i.e Avatar, Transformers, etc.

The AQ is even better. There are a few scenes that would make a list of 'demo samples' in a Bluray collection, most notably the sewer scene/battle and the bridge scene. Epic. The channel separation is superb.

I'll post my thoughts on the movie itself in the review section but imo, this is one of the best Blurays available in terms of PQ, AQ, and extras.

Sony definately brought their A game for this blu ray release. I'm still chessed off they didn't include the trailers.

Just picked up the blu-ray from Target cant wait to get home to watch it!

Still waiting for mine, ordered it last weekend thinking I'd get it by Friday.

Wait.. All the special features are on the main blu-ray disc, right?

A few people have asked and I didn't see anyone answer, but for those of you wondering about the bonus disc that came with the Walmart set, it's a feature on the Lizard that's about 20 minutes long. A little of the content is also in the 90-minute making-of documentary, as well as from one or two of the featurettes that came out before the movie was released in the summer, but they mostly talk about the character and whatnot. Pretty typical stuff. I liked it, but then again, the Lizard is my favourite villain, so I'm biased.

Personally, I thought the most interesting things on the bonus disc were some additional behind-the-scenes footage (eg. it seems like in the library fight scene, Peter tries to appeal to Connors' human self after the fight ends), including a very short clip of Annie Parisse as Martha. Unfortunately, the clip lasts for about three seconds, but it was still neat to see. I wish the disc had included some of the Connors deleted scenes that were mentioned in interviews or shown in-part in other things, but not included on the deleted scenes reel :|

Thanks sounds interesting but doesn't seem like I'll miss much by not buying the Walmart set, maybe this will pop up on Youtube anyday now.

I'll just buy the Target since it's a couple of bucks cheaper too.

Avengers audio is amazing. I don't/won't own ASM on bluray so I can't quote on the picture quality comparison but the Avengers audio was amazing.

It scored higher than ASM in audio. They did rate ASM higher by 1/2 in video quality.

I own both and imo they are on par with one another. The channel separation on both movies is outstanding but the differences between them lie in how they are presented. TA is a powerhouse of sound that's in your face for most of the movie. That's not to say it's annoying, not at all by any means, but rather that you are bathing in sound so to speak. It's a very good mix and will rattle your bones. ASM on the other hand has great depth and detail to the sound mix and creates a real sense of space. Both movies have very clear dialogue and have several scenes worthy as demo material for sound.

The was the impressive thing about ASM, the dialogue was really clear and crisp where as with other movies I have to turn up the sound during quiet moments.
ASM is going to me my demo blu ray for sound.
ASM a tie with Avatar for my demo blu ray fro picture quality (I think Avatar is still the one, just).

I'd bet money that the reason there is a second blu ray (for extras) is because the movie ASM takes up most of first blu ray where as other studios keep compressing the movie until it all fits on one disk.

One thing I wish ASM had is an option for 7.1 lossless. The 5.1 sounds epic though so it's not a big deal really, just a nitpick of mine.
