The Amazing Spider-Man ASM: Stuff You Didn't Like Thread

He did break it. He whispered it to her at the end, she smiled and i wouldn't be surprised if they both ran to the bathroom after class ended, and did the nasty!

Like someone else mentioned, i would have liked to have seen some time pass then some event in the sequel brings them back together again. I mean, her father was killed by a monster Peter helped create and he can't keep his promise for more than a week...?

No. He didn't break the promise by saying that.

He was saying that he couldn't keep it. But he didn't necessarily break it yet.

Yes he broke it. He was like "those promises are the hardest to keep," and Gwen was all like "teehee!!!!!!!!". It was awful. Why else would he say that? Is the first scene in ASM2 going to be him saying..."no I was joking"?

I thought that the character of Uncle Ben was treated almost like an afterthought in this flick. In the Raimi version, you really get a sense of the father-son bond between Ben and Peter. But in Amazing, there was little time spent on developing that bond since so much time is spent on school, Oscorp and the "family mystery". His death doesn't even have as much impact as the death of Cpt. Stacy, imo.

-Peter Parker did not get his powers by anything resembling an accident. Despite being a regular teenager, he was able to teen-superspy his way into the most important government science building in the world by being sneaky and screwing over a fellow science-lover/intern without a moment's hesitation. He puts himself into the Spider- Room and puts himself into a position to be surrounded by the spiders. This and his theft of the web shooters makes me wonder why it wouldn't be glaringly obvious to Oscorp who Spider-Man is.

The parts where he gets the spider bite and when Lizard finds his camera bother me so much because of how not-so-bright Peter comes across. Tobey Maguire did some pretty derptastic things in the Raimi movies, but I felt those were all social derps, which works for Peter Parker (in my opinion).

I mean, in TASM, Peter walked in the middle of what looked like a spider pit/haven thingy (like you said) with no proper protection and was bitten ... What did he expect? Derp.

And the camera thing? Way to give up your identity by having your NAME in BIG LETTERS on the camera and carrying that around as Spider-Man. Again, deeeeeerp.

-Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker have reasons to like each other but never have anything you could consider a deep emotional connection, like the bond that Peter and MJ had in the first Spider-Man movie.

I have to whole-heartedly agree with this. I love Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone as actors, but their chemistry in the movie felt very "off" to me, personally. I think you perfectly explained why. The two just didn't "click" with me, which makes me sad.

Anyway, I agree with almost everything you said in your post, Gunga Diner, but these are the two points I felt like saying something about. :)

Personally, I thought Peter and Gwen's scenes lacked a lot of spark and dragged the movie down. They weren't particularly witty like you see with Pepper and Tony in Iron Man.

Agreed 100%, and this is probably my #1 issue with this movie. The impact of Uncle Ben is the beating heart of Spider-Man's character, in my opinion ... And I think it wasn't handled with the weight it should have been handled, personally.

By the time Peter listens to the voicemail, he doesn't learn anything new from it. He had already accepted the title of being a superhero before listening to the entire message, so it was like he was listening to it and saying "Yeah, Uncle Ben, I already know. Thanks." He didn't accept his hero title because of Uncle Ben's words, and that's something I really didn't care for. This is why I would have rather had Peter listen to it after he saved the kid in the car instead of at the end of the film. That would have been great, in my opinion.

Why was he on his cell phone so much in his spiderman uniform lol ...i liked the movie a lot it's just seemed this route was more about Peter Parker then spiderman idk how I feel about that

Spiders aren't aggressive creatures that attack people... Especially if one isn't even on their skin. And Peter didn't know he was gonna go into a room full of spiders, also he knew that he could get caught any moment so he didn't exactly have time to get protection

I have nothing against people that just don't like the film, but now you're just being a hater

I thought that was very Spider-Man like. A lot of people don't know he is Spider-Man so I can see people calling and thinking Peter is talking.

I didn't like that Peter used bing.

Err..

ok.

which side do I believe

I think it was interesting to see a brutal death with no speech. For Peter it had been a big impact which certainly reinforce his willing to be spider-man. I personally prefer this dead.

I actually felt like I knew Uncle Ben more in this film than the original film.

One thing I didnt like was Spiderman wearing shoes with what looked like soccer shoe bottoms. How exactly is he supposed to grab to a wall when there is an inch of rubber in between his feet and the wall?
I mean it looked kinda cool but doesnt make alot of sense.
On the other hand, I DID like the leggings/thigh high boots that Gwen Stacey wore. Sexy... and Smokin legs too...
As for Uncle Ben. I did like the fact that he didnt sport the WORST hair piece I have ever seen. Every time I see the guy who played Uncle Ben from the Tobey Maguire Spidey films all I can do is look at his terrible hair implants on the top of his head and how it looks like doll hair...

Yeah, no. Try again. This is the "Stuff I Didn't Like" thread, so of course I'm going to talk about the stuff I didn't like. What a concept.

Plus, I don't think you need to defend the honor of this movie, considering there are more fans than not who enjoyed this film. That said, sorry if I hurt the movie's feelings. :P

Spiders aren't aggressive creatures ... Well, how about I just climb into a pit full of spiders, and we'll see if I don't get bitten. Come on, now.

Peter didn't only go into the room, he went INTO that thing with all of the spiders. That was pretty dumb of him, methinks.

What am I making up? I don't know where you are from (if you're from Amazon I'm totally sorry :o) but here people don't give a **** if they see a spider, unless they have a general fear of spiders. The spiders in the room are fairly small, and when it comes to spiders you should avoid the big ones, which can attack people, but not the ones he sees in the room

And the fact that he could get caught up any moment: he's in a very restricted area, and he was very lucky to get there in the first place, so it's common sense that he wouldn't take his time finding protection from some small spiders, which are btw apparently made to produce webbing, and because they are genetically altered it wouldn't make sense for them to be poisonous.

This in no way is making up stuff. If you have facts that make me wrong, please tell me

Ok, most spiders aren't agressive, especially the small ones. Besides, Peter is probably smart enough to know that those spiders aren't venomous. You see, when people breed animals for scientific stuff, they make it so they cannot produce venom

Another thing I didn't like:

The night Ben dies, when he argues with Pete and the latter asks him where his father is. Would've made 40000000000000% sense if they hadn't included those throwaway newspaper shots stating the Parkers got killed. As of now, his reaction (and a very pivotal part of the film) is, if not idiotic, *****ey. Doesn't even make sense, now all that's left to figure out in their story is who did it (although we have a PRETTY good idea) and for what (again, a big part of it was touched on in TASM). Very clumsy move.

Now that I think about it, well, kinda. But, Peter's dad still left him on purpose, and Peter has no idea if the plane crash was an accidental one or arranged

The fact is that he died. So when he asks Ben where his father IS... it's a pretty unfair thing to say, even for an emtional angsty teenager, isn't it?

Maybe he thinks that if he never would've left him he wouldn't have died?

I dunno.. I don't think it's unfair to say.

And I'm a 17 year old with a dead parent.

Maybe he thinks that if he never would've left him he wouldn't have died?

That is one way to see it I suppose, but I still don't think he's fair. Besides, Ben could've easily put him in his place by replying "Dead", not precisely to put him in his place, but to remind him that his father didn't abandon him, he was taken violently from him. Reeks of Sony. Ben wouldn't have stayed silent.
