Assassin´s Creed III - Part 1

You guys could rationalize it all you want but I called it. Long before the release of ACR. I guess I'm just good like that.

I don't know, I always thought she would end up being a traitor since I first played AC 2.

It's not the fact that she was a traitor, it's that her death was completely rushed and that the resolution was all but hidden in Revelations.

Her death was supposed to shock the player. I hope they'll adress this issue in AC3 though.

I understand that, but that doesn't mean it wasn't completely fumbled... I mean, they make her a traitor... But there is no betrayal scene. They use a huge dramatic device and then completely neglect the drama... Instead, they have it mentioned in some DLC in the next game.

Secondly, with the death itself, a death so huge that it triggered Desmond into a coma, they completely underplayed it. If she's a traitor and Desmond is forced to kill her, he should be SO damn confliced.... He cared for her but he killed her... He cared for her but she betrayed him... The alien god he trusted forced him to kill someone...

There were so many ways that could have been played and they ended it with no answer... Now fair enough, that is how AC have traditionally carried their games, but then was there any explanation or follow through in AC:R? None. None at all. And it's not until the DLC, that not many people would have bought anyway since it involved people's least favourite component of that game (with the exception of Den defence).

Now I love the story of AC dearly and I hope and fully expect AC 3 to continue the tradition of sterling narrative and character development, but it can't be ignored that AC:R involved somewhat of a narrative stumble regarding Desmond's journey and the treatment of Lucy and Subject 16. They had two games building up to it, then they got the perfect game, with a side story focus on Desmond's past and Subject 16, something Ubisoft talked about and tauted leading right up to launch, and they didn't deliver.

Yeah, I don't think it was too surprising that she would eventually be revealed as a traitor, but it's the way that it was handled that draws more criticism, and rightfully so.

Personally, I thought it was a nice cliffhanger for ACB, since they were pretty much doing a cliffhanger after every game to set up the next one, but the fact that they barely touched upon her death or its significance makes you wonder if there's something bigger that happened. Granted, Desmond was in a coma and didn't interact with Rebecca or Shaun directly, but hopefully they can redeem themselves by revealing the truth in ACIII, but if they don't, its really going to seem like they were trying to remove her, and possibly Bell, from the game altogether.

I just thought it was a shock death and that maybe the "alien gods" were just jerks.

Agreed.

Here's Part 3 of IGN's Behind the Scenes look at the game.

I loved part two, I never really was interested in the expansion games.

Except how he has missed major plot developments in both games for Desmond.

Seeing all of the wilderness and the animals really gives me a RDR vibe.

ACR is worth checking out, but Brotherhood was pretty much DLC.
ACB was the better game but both are worth checking out, ACB more so as that featured Desmond more heavily. It was a direct sequel to AC II and IMO, not one that should be skipped

ACB was a direct sequel, but that's sort of why I hated it because it was much shorter than ACII, and the gameplay was pretty much unchanged. It really did feel like a DLC expansion as opposed to a full game, regardless of the multiplayer that was added to it. Especially since ACII ended in Rome, where all of ACB took place in.

I loved ACR much more because they at least tried to introduce new gameplay elements like Den Defense and the First person stuff, even though they weren't very good. Plus they had the new facial designs so it looked like an improvement. The only drawback was that it was just as short as ACB in terms of sequences, but much more shorter considering the last sequence has no action, but more story.

But I'm happ to hear, judging from the trophy list that leaked a while ago, that ACIII will have 12 sequences and possibly [BLACKOUT]a couple of Desmond related missions,[/BLACKOUT] as well as the DLC which should put it right up there with ACII in terms of story and gameplay length.

I preferred Revelations to Brotherhood. I really enjoyed the final sequence with Ezio and Altair. But neither should be skipped. Just because they aren't numbered doesn't mean they aren't necessary. Brotherhood and Revelations furthered the story of the present day as well as concluding Altair and Ezio as characters.

I hope III has as much time devoted to the past as ACII did and as much time devoted to the present as Brotherhood, or more.
