Assassin´s Creed III - Part 1

A lot of the characters, including Ezio, alternate between English and Italian. Which, to me, from a purely literal standpoint, makes even less sense. It's like bad WWII movies that have the Germans speak a little (*very* little) German mixed in with their English. "Ach du lieber! Herr Oberleutnant, the Amerikaners are attacking! Gott in himmel! Vat should ve do....?" That annoys the hell out of me more than anything else. Either use the foreign language and subtitle it, or just leave it in English and quit trying to pepper it with foreign phrasing to make it sound more "authentic" or "smart". It sounds neither....it sounds stupid.

Well it doesnt make sense from a literal point and even less so from the video games perspective. Its like the Animus glitches or something and some foreign language seeps in. Ah well.

It must be set to a filter because it usually kept swears in Italian.

Incorrectly?

And no, the Ezio parts are not more authentic because Desmond is hearing them in English.

Im mean I'm all for more options, my point was that it makes sense for it all to be in English, due to the Animus. I just phrased my statement wrong.

You *do* realize that you can choose to play the whole game in Italian if you so wish, right? Go ahead and do it. Be all "authentic." In the meantime, I'll just keep playing and more importantly, understanding the game.

Can't read subtitles, huh? It's funny how angry some people get over a language option.

Just came back from BB and picked this up. Had no idea it was even going to be there but I couldnt pass it up. This is the earliest, Ive ever preordered a game

Got to same I'm dissappointed we're going back in time with this game. Really wanted a game set in Desmond's world. I think the franchise is fantastic and will buy the game, would've just really like to play as Desmond.

Spock is on probationary ban? Awwwwwww.

Also, I'm pretty sure the 'borderline offensive' Italian accents were largely authentic. They had a lot of Italian actors for that game, and only a few of the major characters had bigger, American or British based voice actors.

That wouldn't really make sense for an AC game though. Desmond is not Italian or Middle Eastern. He doesnt speak those languages. I mean he's even commented about that. The animus alters the language so he can understand it.

Well, the subtitles make sense. Desmond mentioned he sees them himself in ACII.

I'm fine with the language. The Animus is the ultimate storytelling device, because essentially Desmond is in a very advanced games console. The HUD, the language, the menus all make sense within the context of the games.

Yep. I really like that. It nearly breaks the fourth wall at times, and I enjoy it.

It can even be a little weird in Brotherhood, when I'm running around the villa as Desmond and there's no mini-map or HUD at all. And then I remember, right...not in the Animus.

Who cares? It makes the Ezio parts more authentic. Besides, how do you think non-English speakers play the game?

Depends on your perspective, and how you're roleplaying it. If your role playing it as Desmond, then him having it dubbed/translated could make sense. But, if your roleplaying as actually being in the shoes of Ezio...then yeah, makes sense to only be in Italian.

I believe Shaun or Rebecca mentioned in AC2 that the Animus isn't perfect, so some of the translations are not complete. I think they might have mentioned something about Desmond's mind also having something to do with it, trying to deal with the fact that he's supposed to be in Italy and these people aren't Americans from his century. I think that might have been a way to explain Ezio's accent, even though he was speaking english.

It's probably tied into the Animus and Desmond's brain trying to avoid from having him go insane with all the mind-trippy stuff that's going on. To differentiate things.

From a creators standpoint? It's just, like said before, one of the greatest storytelling devices ever. You could literally just blame and explain tons of things by pointing towards the Animus.

Ughhhhhhhhhhh

I hope I'm the only one who just witnessed that massive ***** piece of **** jerk wad **** bag who just posted ME 3 story spoilers in a bunch of threads? Hope that speck of **** cheese chokes on his own tongue.

That is some good work right there

Man, that Game of Thrones House of Stark DVD cover is ****ing sick.

I'm tempted to go back to Bestbuy and get it for that cover alone (I have HBO, watched all of season one...and loved it).

Ohhhhh, so its not like Braveheart or something? Its more fantasy?

It's medieval fantasy. The fantasy elements are more in the background but will become more important later on. Right now it's a lot of political intrigue with these families vying for power on the continent. Oh, there's also a good amount of sex and violence.

I kinda feel the same, but seeing what they are giving us, I like what I see. I just hope Desmond has a bigger role in this because he really wasn't involved at all in Revelations, which disappointed me.
Ughhhhhhhhhhh

I heard about that earlier. Its really bad.

Just got my steel book. Is it just me or is getting a pre-order bonus so early seem kinda stupid? It doesn't really guarantee that anyone is actually going to buy the game. They can easily get the case, then switch the pre-order to another game or just cancel later on.

I don't plan on doing that myself, I'll buy the game for sure. However, I can't really be sure that I'll still be living in the same city by October, so I may have to cancel/switch my order at the GameStop I went to.

To be honest, I've never really understood the principle behind pre-orders. It's really rare to see a game sold out these days, since there are so many different avenues you can purchase from. I understand that a lot (if not all) of them have pre-order bonuses and exclusive content, but to me it still seems weird. You're putting money down for a game you won't have for months, only to get some DLC you'll probably be able to get anyways through traditional methods down the road.

It does seem weird to have it so early. Im more worried about losing my reciept 6 months from now

Pre-orders arent simply to ensure you as a gamer are guaranteed the game release day. Retailers do it to gauge interest and know how much to order from publishers. Nothing worse than buying a bunch of games which dont sell and just sit on shelves. The preorder bonsues dont guarantee a purchase but they do make it more likely that a gamer will purchase from them as opposed to another retailer. As for the part thats in bolded, think about it. You get that DLC for free as opposed to paying for it later. Who wouldnt want to save a few bucks?

I actually don't care about preorder bonus items. They thankfully never amount to anything important. I preorder (always from Amazon) because of release date delivery and also because they usually offer some credit if you preorder and most of the time they have a bonus item of their own.

More like dont always.

It's mostly to give people more of an incentive to buy a game as opposed to waiting a while to buy it used or rent. Same thing goes for how most game not only have MP modes now, but also how you need an online pass now to access online play.

Not to mention, some stores offer different types of content so that people would choose to buy from them instead. It's mostly something that the industry has done to make business better, especially in times where people feel games are too expensive or wait to buy or rent instead of paying full price.

Iv never seen Game of Thrones. Whats it all about?

It's basically an HBO fantasy genre show. There are spots that I swear, it reminds me of Skyrim. Visually, that is.

The show reminds me of the things I've heard about The Witcher 2. Which is that it's a grounded, mature (language and tone), almost realistic approach to a story set in the fantasy genre.

It's got Sean Bean in it, too. He's fantastic in this. Highly recommend this to you, Pat. I think you might dig it.
