Assassin's Creed IV

Hmm. So apparently there won't be a new character outside the Animus or Desmond coming back. Instead, WE the players are hired by Abstergo to research his ancestry...and reason being is a "pivotal moment" that occurs during the time of Edward. And we're sent to look into just what that moment is.

It's an interesting move which I'm a little mixed about. If it's first person (which is likely) like those side quests of Desmond in Revelations I'm going to be slightly bothered. On the other hand by making us gamers involved like that it opens up the door of exploring the ancenstry of OTHERS going forward, right?

In a lot of the info given out today it was said that all the games have been building toward this moment. Where players don't need Desmond anymore. So by creating this option it also allows the AC games to expand by showing other assassin's not just related to Desmond if they ever go that route.

Everything else for ACBF looks and sounds amazing.
I haven't played Liberation, but I believe that was the same case. There was no modern day protagonist. Instead, I believe it was Abstergo using the memories as a way of showing something bad that the Assassins did.

Yeah, I haven't played it either. But I did read about it on the AC wiki. (Which is amazing.)

They should've ended the modern day stuff definitively then. I hope we get a modern day game one day.

But, I'm really glad we might finally get a game that has a beginning, middle and ending.

Just pre ordered at GameStop,Awesome free two-sided poster!!

100% agreed,This one to be fully or mostly in the past while AC 5 should be completely modern day..Although I think AV III should have been all modern day!!

Just caught that the main character is Edward Kenway. Is he supposed to be Connor's son?

You want a modern day AC game? Watch_Dogs looks like a good substitute.

I'd prefer if AC stays in history, well with the exception of a full blown scifi game like the 2099 Marvel comics.

I agree that the Modern Day Assassin should have concluded in ACIII.

Also, I'm not sure this would never happen, but it would have been cool to see a final stand-off with an Assassin and the Templars. I know they were never the main threat, but it feel kinda weird knowing that the Assassins are pretty much extinct and the Templars have so much control.

Yeah dude, Blackbeard was boss. Even when you completely ignore the fantasized aspects of him, he was an extremely compelling person. After boarding ships, he'd actually ask for the permission of the crew to take command of it, and he took extremely good care of anyone he had to hold prisoner. He was actually given a royal pardon and could have lived a care free life, but he got bored, said "screw it" and went back to pirating.

I'd encourage anyone with even a passing interest to read up on Blackbeard, he was an incredibly fascinating guy. This is one of those cases where the actual man is far more interesting than all his fictional counterparts.

Loving the new dev notes.

He said there's three cities in this one, and according to the leaked map, those would be Havana, Kingston, and Nassau. I get the feeling the architecture in each is going to be more "old school" AC for the Ezio/Altair style of free-running. I'm happy about that part. And the jungles will provide the wilderness type of parkour for the Connor fans....I think that's a good balance between both styles.

It'll be interesting to see what new weapons Edward gets, and which get left behind....I'd be willing to bet that we won't see the tomahawk or rope dart make a comeback. One of the promo animations shows Edward actually smashing a bottle off an enemy's face, so I'm hoping that means more environmental damage/weaponry, too.

Looks absolutely fascinating, of course. This is why I love the AC series so much --- by traveling around to different points in history, they can basically reinvent the game each time and focus on entirely new genres. A lot of people complained that the AC1/AC2 era became too repetitive in terms of gameplay, style, and genre; but with 3 and 4, we've jumped into the Revolutionary War genre, the James Fenimore Cooper colonial frontier genre, and now the pirate genre.

I seriously can't understand when people say the AC series has gotten too stale, when it's literally a whole new genre with each new game.

I remember asking for something like this in 2008
I want a game where you're pirates and the game is either campaign or multiplayer (like call of duty) and multiplayer could have scenarios like 1 pirate team versus another and you gotta steal the other pirates' ship and you get guns and swords and cannons, and there could be an extension for RPGing as a Pirate. Is there one out there?
So pumped!

The setting and mechanics are very cool, but I can't shake the feeling that this is too soon. Granted, there has been a new AC every year for the past couple of years, but I think that schedule has the potential to start yielding bad results. It's already started to happen with Revelations and to a lesser extent III. I hope this game is better than the previous two.

People like to complain I guess.

I'm really interested to see if Tyranny of King Washington has any ties to this.

I doubt it. That was designed as just a what if scenario. It's not canon

Iv been doing that tonight after you guys enlightened me on the individual. Really cool stuff. Can't wait to see him in this game. Wonder if we will get to hear some of the more dramatic tales of the character while in game, all the while knowing the real character.

I hope we get to see his death. That **** was Rasputin levels of epic.

Yeah, Tyranny of King Washington IS canon, just an alternate universe or timeline if you will. It's more Days of Future Past than it is 'What If?'

Ubisoft merely stated the events that take place in this alternate universe won't have ramifications on the traditional universe, that's not to say that it's entirely seperate canon. If you'd played it, you'd know that at the beginning, even though it's an alternate universe, it's the main universe Connor.

For us, we want to have a little fun with it and have a less serious experience, a less earnest experience, and setting it in an alternate history environment gives us room and freedom to play around with things in a more whimsical manner
.

So now we have multiple universes to worry about? Oy vey.

I dunno, I was really put off initially by the idea of alternate universe but I think Tyranny really nailed the perfect tone for an Assassins Creed game and it makes for a more engaging story than AC 3 had. You have a really clear and strong villain, you have a clear and strong motive and your character is instilled with a really well driven purpose. When you're roaming around, the soldiers feel like oppressors rather than the shades of grey that AC 3 had.

It feels much more in line tonally with the Ezio trilogy. I feel like AC 3 let history drive the narrative rather than the other way around.
