Assassin's Creed: Origins

I wonder if there will be just one city or if you can go to Cairo and other places?

I wonder if there will be just one city or if you can go to Cairo and other places?

It's supposedly one giant map with various cities scattered across it (without loading screens). I saw the map during the demo with Ashraf Ismail (I think that's his name) and it's freaking huge. Think Black Flag, but instead of an ocean traversed by ship, you'll traverse this by whatever means you want to.

Accessible isnt the same as standalone. Sure a person can jump into any of the games (the series is like network television and some book series that way), but that doesnt make them standalone. They arent. Syndicate is the only one that really comes close to being standalone because its set set in the 19th century and the characters from the previous games are dead and gone and dont factor into the plot. But the rest all have characters and events and plots that carry over from one game to the next. They are no more standalone than a typical network television episode.

Standalone does not mean there is no connective tissue; it just means that something can stand on its own; that it can be understood and work without the need of outside/additional knowledge. Yes, Rogue, Black Flag, Unity and III are connected by character lineage (though Unity barely applies here), but each stands entirely on it's own with their own specific plots and characters that are in no way reliant on the player's understanding of the lineage/connection. You do not need to play Rogue to understand Unity. You do not need to play Black Flag to fully grasp III. You do not need to play II to grasp Syndicate. In other words, they are standalone games. The only AC games that are not standalone is the Ezio trilogy.

Although Assassin’s Creed Origins is looking to take the series into a true open-world RPG direction, there are still many classic gameplay elements to be found here for longtime fans, including what we saw in this brief E3 2017 demo. Talking to informants, hunting for clues, and throwing hapless guards off of high ledges remain at the core of Assassin’s Creed as seen in our video below.

The original assassin, Bayek, who is a sheriff of sorts in ancient Egypt, is on the hunt for a man only known as The Crocodile. Bayek may not be as agile as previous assassins, but his methods are nonetheless effective with his bow and arrow, curved sword, and shield.

Assassin’s Creed Origins will be available on October 27 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Aw he killed a hippo :(

Oh and I love that they didn't whitewash him!

I've gone ahead and preordered my copy, this definitely looks interesting. I love the idea of Senu (and her being the origin of Eagle Vision/Sense?) - and it looks like the inworld explination for the Assassin's logo is that it appears comes from how the underside of an Eagle's skull looks (for anyone that has happened to notice that... I don't know if that's been revealed before this game). I've seen some online point out that Bayek looks a bit like Connor and Desmond (even has the lip scar) and so are wondering if he is one of Desmond's ancestors (and if whatever present day storyline they might be doing will tie back into Desmond). It sounds like (at least from what little I've read? I admit I haven't dug into interviews all that much) that they're being kind of tight lipped about the present day storyline. Though I'm not through it yet, I know what Desmond's fate is at the end of III (and have played AC: IV) and so through that as well as reading the thoughts of others online, know the present day storyline (or lack thereof) suffered after III so it would be nice to have a decent present day storyline again.

The question for me will be, as a somewhat recent player of the games (just barely got an XBox One this past Christmas - before that I only had Black Flag for the WiiU), can I finish up AC:III (I'm at the point where I just [blackout]teamed up with Haytham to take out Benjamin Church[/blackout] and I'm really only playing on the weekends), Rogue, Unity and Syndicate before October hits? (I know I don't *need* to, but I like doing things mostly in order if I have the possibility of doing so) :oldrazz:

Developers of open-world games are always comparing the size of their worlds. Ubisoft is definitely a culprit in this regard, especially with their Assassin's Creed series.
Speaking with Game Informer, Ashraf Ismail said that Assassin's Creed Origins is much bigger than Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, but followed by saying size doesn't matter.
"If I compare it to previous games in the past, I don't actually know the exact numbers [for Origins], but I would say that it's at least twice the size of Havana from Black Flag, at least.

Having said that, I don't think of the size of the city is what matters. It's really the content, the experience that you have inside of it. It's how alive it is. So we filled these locations with quests, with making each city feel unique to itself, why was it important to Egypt."
Considering an earlier interview with Ismail on Side quests being more impactful, this could mean good things for Ubisoft's latest entry.

Game Informer actually talked to Ismail for quite a while, touching many aspects of the franchise as a whole. The entire interview can be found here in video format. In regards to Origins, however, here's a summary of what was discussed:

  • The Origins map is "pretty much" open right away, but not until after the introductory sequence.
  • There will be a lot of customization options, though Ismail would not confirm if you'll be able to give main character Bayek a beard.
  • They want to keep the modern-day elements mostly a secret so players will be surprised. "I would rather have people be more surprised by the experience," he said. "If [the marketing department] want me to talk about it I'll be more than happy to talk about it."
[*]Ismail teased about the modern-day storyline in Origins, "I think people will be happy."

I guess if they do an anime people will finally get the japanese setting they've been craving
hmm from what was said and it was shown on the show "inner space" on the Canadian version/ counterpart of the sy fy called the space channel . the person in charge of this anime is a Westerner and it's likely alot of the worker's on the project will be too. But we'll see.

Not sure about us ever getting Japanese stetting I'm that early days direct that made the edict against is is still around and is doing mostly the producing now and days. He was around still when they did the setting for France not direction but being producer.

After watching Castlevania, I'm very excited about the Assassin's Creed animated series.

Just found out that there is no traditional Eagle vision in this game. They left it out and replaced it with the actual eagle that you use to fly over areas and mark targets. Not sure if Im going to like that.

You also can't stealth kill all enemy NPCs. The enemy has to be lower or only a few levels higher than the players level to stealth kill the enemy. So if you're level 20 and the enemy is level 25 and you try to stealth them with your assassin's blade it will fail. And it takes forever to kill npcs that are a higher level than you, but they can kill you in one or two hits. So exploring or trying to stealth an area that has higher level NPCs is extremely difficult.

Combat has seen a major overhaul in Assassin’s Creed Origins, compared to previous installments, and fan questions about its evolution were recently answered in a developer Q&A.
Game director Ashraf Ismail only responds to three, combat-themed questions in the Q&A, but the answers he provides are extensive. The first question leads to Ismail covering the game’s basic combat system layout, how it has evolved from previous games, and what it asks of the player. Past installments relied on a technically-paired animation system that locked in player and enemy combat animations, but Origins uses a hit-box system that instead prioritizes weapon design and player position to allow for more control over a fight.
The second question pertains to the game’s weapon variety. Ismail breaks down the huge selection of weapons available in the game, and explains how this variety is further enhanced by Origins‘ stat-based, RPG-style progression system. Finally, Ismail is asked to touch on how enemies react to combat in the game. The director explains that enemy attack patterns are intended to be occasionally too much for the player, incentivizing the player to carefully manage attacks or take a step back and rework their strategy.

[YT]rsw1dYLSfcc[/YT]
Ismail recently did an interview with AusGamers in which he talked more about the game’s setting and systems. During the discussion, the game director mentioned Origins‘ Desert Overheat feature, which can deteriorate the health of players that wander the barren sands of Egypt for too long.
Assassin’s Creed Origins is slated to launch October 27th on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
